The 14 Best Places to Drink in Leeds

Sections

Tap another section to add it.

The best places to drink in Leeds, according to the experts: the Great British Pub Awards, the Top 50 Cocktail Bars, and the Top 50 Gastropubs have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Myrtle Tavern comes out on top.

More Less

Pinnacle Sports & Games and Below Stairs hold the next two places. Difford's Guide shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with the Great British Pub Awards next.

  1. A pub in a Leeds conservation area that won the Great British Pub Awards' Best Pub Garden two years running, and once you see the place, that tracks. What was a car park and field is now a two-tiered outdoor space with a terrace bar, wooden huts, and views over a cricket pitch. The planting is genuinely cared for, pollinator-friendly and all. A solid neighborhood pub where the garden is the whole point.

  2. Seventeen screens, three Sky boxes, and sound zones that let different matches play in their own corners of the room: Pinnacle takes the sports pub formula pretty seriously. Pool, darts, and electronic basketball keep things moving between kickoffs, and the family-friendly hours mean it's not purely a fortress of lager and shouting. The 2025 Great British Pub Award for Best Pub to Watch Sport suggests the rebrand landed.

  3. Rank 3. Below Stairs

    Cocktail Bar

The current menu at this basement cocktail bar in Leeds is organized around Sugar, Salt, Acid, and Fat, which sounds like a food-science lecture but lands as a genuinely clever way to pick a drink without pretending you know what "amaro" means. Craft beer on draft and small-vineyard wines round things out. It landed at number 20 on the Top 50 Cocktail Bars list, which should tell you what kind of crowd finds their way downstairs.

  4. Rank 4. Tabula Rasa

    Cocktail Bar

Art deco bones, marble and gold tables, and green velvet stools set the mood at this Eastgate cocktail bar, which runs from coffee and pastries at nine in the morning all the way through aperitivo hour to late-night classics with cheese and cold cuts. The team sources ingredients from Kirkgate Market and lets the cocktail menu get genuinely odd, in a good way. It landed a spot on the Top 50 Cocktail Bars list in 2026.

  5. Sausage rolls baked to order, ham carved from the joint and finished on the open fireplace, a dedicated mustard menu: the Highland Laddie is a pub that takes the pub seriously. It landed on the Top 50 Gastropubs list, and Jimi Famurewa called it out in The Observer as a northern boozer of unexpected finesse. Come for a pint and leave having somehow eaten rather a lot.

  6. Rank 7. Hedonist

    Creative Cocktail Bar

The concept started as a rotating bar that reinvented itself every few months, and somewhere along the way it just became a bar worth staying in. Hedonist on Briggate is a cocktail bar that has settled into its own skin, putting the focus on the drinks themselves rather than the next theatrical theme. The kind of place where the menu does the talking and the room doesn't need a costume to hold your attention.

  7. Three Victorian cellars knocked into one give this basement bar its vaulted ceilings, still lined in original white porcelain tiles. The namesake Jake Burger has long since moved on to gin work in London, but the bar he built on Call Lane carries on with its reputation for being crammed, loud, and a little dangerous on a Friday. Arrive early later in the week or the door will make the decision for you.

  9. Rank 10. North

    Beer Bar

  10. Named for the Howlin' Wolf track, this two-floor bar and micro-club in Leeds wears its blues obsession on its sleeve. An unpromising staircase leads to a first-floor lounge with banquette seating, and later in the week the attic opens up, revealing a beamed ceiling, a second bar, and a dance floor where DJs keep things moving. Orleans funk, Harlem jazz, and Chicago blues set the tone, so dress accordingly and don't arrive expecting quiet conversation.

  11. The awards

  12. Rank 13. Mojo Leeds

    Cocktail Bar

Rock star prints cover the walls of this packed cocktail bar on Merrion Street, and the music is loud enough that you're basically shouting your order. Mojo has no interest in delicate Martinis or hushed appreciation, and the crowd packing in seems grateful for that. Chunky glasses of fruity, generously poured cocktails do the work, shots fill the gaps, and the whole thing runs on a holiday-bar energy that somehow never feels try-hard.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
