More Less
Domaine de Biar and Mas de Lafeuillade hold the next two places. The Michelin Guide shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with Le Fooding next.

A lovingly restored country estate outside Montpellier, spread across 120-odd acres of meadows, vineyards, and old-growth trees that take the concept of a garden quite seriously. The Michelin Guide awarded it 2 Keys. Rooms differ wildly, from Belle Époque reds and lavenders to grayscale rooms furnished with accordion lamps, which is a choice. Freestanding tubs, hidden doors, and private terraces appear throughout, and the on-site restaurant leans hard into Slow Food principles.

A working vineyard just outside Montpellier where the roses and the pool and the sundeck conspire to make you feel you've earned a week off. This boutique hotel holds twenty-six rooms and suites designed by Raymond Morel, whose eye runs more toward city chic than rustic charm, which turns out to be a nice surprise out here in the Languedoc countryside. A full spa and a restaurant round things out. Michelin has given it one Key.

Rooms and apartments open directly onto fairway or garrigue at this contemporary golf and spa resort outside Montpellier, built around bioclimatic principles rather than bolted-on green credentials. The 84 rooms, apartments, and a private villa draw natural light and air through considered design, while permaculture gardens supply a kitchen leaning Mediterranean. The spa, the shared terraces, and the quiet corners all coexist without crowding each other out.
