The Best Places in Kreuzberg

  1. The scruffy Neukölln exterior gives nothing away, which is half the point. Inside, this two-Michelin-star fine dining spot applies pastry technique across an entire tasting menu, no refined sugar anywhere in it, with a paired drink tailored to every course. Counter seats look straight into the kitchen. The place lands on the World's 50 Best list, and the room feels more like a lively dinner party than a temple of gastronomy.

  2. Rank 2. Horváth

    Vegetarian Austrian

A two-Michelin-starred restaurant on the Landwehrkanal in Kreuzberg, with a terrace tucked from the street and a room where period wood panelling meets a Jim Avignon mural. Sebastian Frank's set menu is vegetable-forward in a way that sounds like a manifesto, with dishes named "mushroom liver" and "fuck caviar." The wine list leans Austria and Eastern Europe, which at this level feels almost punk.

  3. Rank 3. Loumi

    Modern Japanese

A self-taught chef holding a Michelin star in a small Kreuzberg corner spot is a useful reminder that formal training is mostly paperwork. Loumi is an intimate tasting-menu restaurant where eight courses bend classical technique through a Japanese lens, and the chefs bring the plates out themselves. The minimalist room suits the cooking: nothing decorative, nothing wasted. A covered terrace out front for when Berlin cooperates.

  4. Stuccoed ceilings, quirky wallpaper, and a terrace folded into the heart of Kreuzberg set the room before the food even arrives. This Michelin-starred modern restaurant runs an eight-course tasting menu in omnivore and vegetarian versions, with a handful of optional add-ons if you're feeling ambitious. The combinations lean into serious contrast, delicate against forceful, and the whole thing is steered with an informality that makes a long tasting menu feel less like an occasion and more like a very good evening.

  5. A gastrobar in Kreuzkölln where the drinks menu gets as much thought as the food, which is a rarer balance than it should be. The two owners split time between the kitchen and the floor, so the room stays small and personal. A tight à la carte and a ten-course tasting menu for two or more run alongside house-made kombucha, cocktails, and carefully chosen wines that the staff walk you through with genuine warmth.

  6. Rank 5. FUKAGAWA - Fine Dining

    Contemporary Japanese

A fine dining room in Kreuzberg where Japanese technique and European pantry meet with more conviction than that pairing usually manages. The seven-course menu comes in omnivore or vegetarian versions, shaped by a kitchen with Italian-German and Japanese roots, which explains the Wagyu beside the chicory and the Breton scallop in a tonkotsu broth. The interior is spare and calm, and there's a small terrace out front when Berlin cooperates.

  8. Rank 5. Kitten Deli

    Middle Eastern

The pita comes straight from the oven, and you can buy a loaf of challah to take home if you have the self-control to wait that long. Kitten Deli is a vegetarian Levantine spot in Neukölln, with old floorboards, panelled walls, and street tables that fill up fast. The menu leans toward sharing, hummus, shakshuka, things you pull apart together. No tablecloths, no ceremony, just the kind of neighbourhood place that makes you wish you lived around the corner.

  9. Rank 5. merold

    Modern German

A set-menu restaurant in Neukölln where the chef tends to wander out and explain the food himself, which somehow makes the whole thing feel less formal rather than more. The cooking is modern German, built around Brandenburg produce and stripped down to very few components per plate. Four or five courses, each arriving as a pair of dishes. The house-made bratwurst shows up as an optional add-on, which is either very humble or very confident.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
