The Best Places in South District de Saint-Édouard

  1. The name is borrowed from a Jura winemaker who calls everyone "mon lapin," which tells you something about the energy here. Mon Lapin is a wine-bar-slash-bistro in Little Italy where the menu changes daily, lists ingredients more than dishes, and then arrives at the table as something you didn't quite expect. The natural wine list, which landed a North America's 50 Best Sommelier Award, is the kind of thing sommeliers photograph. Reservations open thirty days out and vanish fast.

  2. Rank 2. Limbo

    European

The pommes dauphine with mouclade has been on the menu since day one, which tells you something about a bistro that otherwise rewrites its card almost daily. Limbo landed a Michelin Bib Gourmand and a spot on Canada's 100 Best not long after opening in Little Italy, near Jean-Talon Market. The chef leans French classic with a sideline in offal, the wine list runs natural and Jura-heavy, and the long bar and burgundy banquettes keep things unfussy.

  3. Fresh pasta is made each morning before the dining room opens, which tells you most of what you need to know about this snug Italian spot on Clark. The menu is short and brash: a few antipasti, a genuinely unhinged Philly cheesesteak, filled pastas in buttery, precise sauces, and a small run of desserts. The natural wine list skews slightly nerdy in the best way. Canada's 100 Best landed it at number 47 for 2026.

  4. Rank 4. Parapluie

    Modern French

A marble counter wraps around the open kitchen in this 30-seat modern French bistro on Beaubien, putting you close enough to watch the sauces reduce. The menu runs seasonal sharing plates, though the egg mayo with lobster is apparently permanent, removed only at the chef's peril. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand. Elegant and unfussy, the kind of place where the fries have a reputation of their own.

  5. Rank 5. Bar Numéro

    Modern Cocktail Bar

The stainless steel bar runs through the center of the room, with bartenders working inside it rather than behind it, so you're surrounded by the action whether you want to be or not. It's a cocktail bar on Saint-Laurent doing force-carbonated highballs and tableside martinis poured into glasses refreshed mid-drink to hold temperature, but a Labatt 50 sits on the menu without irony. Named a Regional Top 10 Honoree at the Spirited Awards, and already on Canada's 100 Best Bars list.

  6. The name, "Salle Climatisée," is a straight lift from old French commercial signage, which tells you something about the sense of humor running this twenty-seat Little Italy bistro. Seven savory dishes, cheese, two desserts, on a slate board that changes with the seasons. The kitchen leans on Quebec producers and turns out the kind of food that's rustic without being careless. Low-intervention wines, G&Ts brightened with verjus, and a ceramicist's Calder-evoking mobile overhead.

  7. Rank 7. Bar Bello

    Italian Cocktail Bar

A vintage vending machine stocked with eight bottled Negronis, including a rotating seasonal riff, is a pretty good thesis statement for an aperitivo bar. Bar Bello is an ode to Italian drinking culture, all taralli, focaccia, and a long list of amari and vermouths alongside Sbagliatos, Garibaldis, and cocktails built for a large patio. It landed on North America's 50 Best Bars list. Come with a tolerance for bitterness and no plans until evening.

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
