    The wildly patterned carpets alone will stop you mid-lobby, which is very much the point. Hotel DeBrett sits on High Street, the scruffier, more interesting street running parallel to Auckland's main drag, and the building's Art Deco bones now wear mid-century modern furniture like they were always meant to. A cocktail bar, an atrium restaurant, and an upscale pub keep things lively, and the crowd leans creative, the way the neighborhood does.
