A narrow interior walkway leads you into what was once a carriage house, now a fine dining room with white-painted brick walls and wide plank floors that do most of the decorating. Alfred Portale, a name Chelsea regulars have followed for decades, runs an Italian menu that stays close to the Mediterranean without being precious about it. The primi, particularly the fresh pasta, tend to be where the kitchen is most at ease.
