    A wrought-iron-balconied courtyard that stops you mid-step is the heart of this boutique hotel on Upper King Street. Morris Adjmi Architects designed the façade to nod at Charleston's architectural jumble without copying any of it, but step inside and the Victorian atmosphere takes over completely. Fifty rooms keep it from feeling like a scene. The Michelin Guide has it among its selected hotels.
