Right on Canal Street, the spine of Manchester's Gay Village, this boutique hotel sits above the Velvet Bar and Restaurant, which should tell you everything about noise levels and nothing bad about the rooms. The look is bohemian-industrial with Edwardian flourishes and, yes, actual velvet. Plush robes, gadgets, and a crowd that checked in at midnight make it less a sleep sanctuary than a very comfortable home base for the night's ongoing business.
