The best hotels in Stuttgart, according to the experts: the Michelin Guide has weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Das Edith comes out on top.

Der Zauberlehrling and Le Méridien Stuttgart hold the next two places.

  1. A five-room guesthouse in a 19th-century Heusteigviertel townhouse, Das Edith has the feel of staying with a friend who has very good taste and owns too many interesting objects. Vintage pieces and collected art fill rooms that don't match each other, which is the point. Breakfast is baked bread and strong coffee at a communal table. Outside, the neighborhood delivers cafés, galleries, and small shops within easy walking distance.

  2. Every room in this boutique Stuttgart hotel has its own theme, and the range is genuinely wide: animal prints and copper soaking tubs in one, inflatable metallic furniture and an Xbox beside a fireplace in another. Philippe Starck-designed showers come standard, Sonos throughout, and many rooms open onto private patios. A ground-floor café handles breakfast, and a Michelin-starred restaurant shares the name. Sitting in the city's cultural Mitte district.

  3. The curving brick facade and rounded bay windows are doing a lot of work on this block, and the interior follows through: a contemporary business hotel with clean-lined rooms that stop well short of boutique-hotel theater. Stuttgart runs on Porsche, Daimler, and assorted engineering genius, and Le Méridien quietly caters to that crowd. Le Spa handles the decompression when the meetings finally end.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
