  1. Bare brick walls and mismatched chairs upholstered in Chelsea blue give this Fulham Road gastro pub away before you've ordered. It sits directly opposite Stamford Bridge, which is either a selling point or a warning, and the football club was reportedly founded here when the place went by a different name. A long communal table keeps things convivial, and the overall room lands somewhere between slick and genuinely warm, which is harder than it looks.

  2. Rank 102. The Atlas

    Gastropub

A corner pub just off Lillie Road, The Atlas has been a Fulham fixture long enough to outlast the Earls Court exhibition halls it once neighbored, which is a longer run than most. The neighborhood is mid-redevelopment and slightly adrift, but the pub itself feels settled, the kind of gastro pub that draws a regular crowd who know exactly what they came for and don't need a reason to check the menu twice.

  3. The red lights behind the bar are a relic from when this corner pub had a rather different clientele. These days it draws theatre-goers heading upstairs to the Canal Cafe and Maida Vale professionals who've discovered that oak panelling and an open fire beat a wine bar. It sits a step from the Regent's Canal in Little Venice, mismatched chairs, ornate cornices, and all the cosy warmth of a pub that knows exactly what it is.

  4. A gastro pub spread across three floors of a Marylebone hotel, with light wood, white ceilings, and pastel shades that keep things bright if a little corporate. Part of the Cubitt House group, so the menu will look familiar if you've been to its siblings. The wine list runs to around sixty bottles, with a good twenty poured by the glass and a range that climbs well past the hundred-pound mark for those feeling ambitious.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
