The best hotels in Gold Coast, according to the experts: the Forbes Travel Guide, the Michelin Guide, and The 50 have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. The Darling at The Star Gold Coast comes out on top.
More Less
The Langham and JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort & Spa hold the next two places. The Michelin Guide shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with the Forbes Travel Guide next.

Fifty-six suites in a 19-story tower, each fitted with crystal chandeliers, Bose sound systems, and Jo Loves toiletries, which is a lot of effort for somewhere people assume they'll spend most of their time at the casino downstairs. This is a boutique luxury hotel that earns its quiet by keeping the room count low. The rooftop infinity pool looks out over the Gold Coast skyline, and Frette linens and complimentary valet are standard issue throughout.

Floor-to-ceiling Pacific views come standard at this luxury hotel tower on the Gold Coast, and the upper-floor three-bedroom apartments make "room" feel like the wrong word entirely. The Langham brings its signature polished-hotel playbook to Surfers Paradise: lagoon pool with a swim-up bar, a spa, and a café that sits right on the beach. It's the kind of place that takes the Glitter Strip seriously, which the Glitter Strip probably appreciates.

A saltwater lagoon with 300-plus species of fish is an unusual thing to find in a hotel lobby area, yet here it is, doing its job as a conversation piece for Surfers Paradise families. This Gold Coast resort stacks the deck: multiple pools, a six-room spa, teppanyaki and seafood buffet dining, and the long white beach just outside. Multi-generational groups tend to check in and promptly lose track of time.

Why #4, not #5
Both places show 72. This one's exact Score is 72.0 and the next is 71.8, so it ranks first. We round what you see, but we rank on the exact number.
- #4 Mondrian Gold Coast (this place) 72.0
- #5 QT Gold Coast 71.8

Floor-to-ceiling windows frame both the Gold Coast surf and the hinterland ranges behind it, which is a neater trick than most beachfront hotels manage. QT Gold Coast is a full-service hotel in Surfers Paradise that skips the nautical rope and driftwood decor in favor of bold colors and genuinely curvy furniture. Rooms go white and crisp with pops of orange and crimson. The in-house Bazaar food hall covers most cravings without making you decide on a cuisine first.

Coolangatta is the laid-back end of the Gold Coast, where most hotels lean hard into the surfboard-and-rattan aesthetic. The Pink Hotel skips all of that: risqué murals, neon art in every room, polished concrete floors, and a tattoo shop off the lobby. The rooftop cabanas are genuinely unpretentious, the Janitors Closet piano bar sets a mood, and Eddie's Grub House pours whisky while live music goes. A hotel that feels like it wandered in from somewhere else entirely.

The one-acre lagoon pool comes with a white sand beach and, crucially, none of Queensland's famously homicidal marine life. This large resort sits inside Sanctuary Cove, a country club and marina community on Hope Island between Gold Coast and Brisbane, and despite 251 rooms it manages to feel more private enclave than convention hotel. Rooms blend tropical ease with Art Deco touches, and there are two golf courses, one of them the only Arnold Palmer design in Australia.
