  1. Arched windows and original brick from an old Midtown building are still doing the heavy lifting here, even as the interiors have gone full Autograph Collection, with taupe walls, tall headboards, and copper accent pillows. Chesapeake Energy Arena and Bricktown are walkable, and the Rooftop O Bar draws enough locals that you'll forget you're staying at a hotel.

  2. A speakeasy behind an unmarked door and karaoke at closing time is not what most boutique hotels lead with, but Citizen House isn't leading with most things. Michaelis Boyd fitted out three floors of a downtown tower in electric blues and mismatched patterns, and the sixteen apartment-style rooms feel more like borrowed residences than hotel suites. Corner rooms catch the skyline and the National Memorial through wraparound windows.

  3. A century-old building in Oklahoma City's West Village District, with exposed brick and warehouse ceilings tall enough to feel genuinely grand, now runs as a boutique hotel with a pool bar, cabanas, and DJ sets that suggest the guests have places to be. Mary Eddy's Italian Grill and a grab-and-go coffee counter keep you fed without leaving the building. Paycom Center is walkable, which either matters to you or it doesn't.

  4. The first eight floors of a 1931 Art Deco bank tower, with the original vault doors, painted ceilings, and stone columns still doing their thing across 146 rooms. The National is a hotel where the building is the amenity, no pool or spa needed. The Great Hall bar operates in the former banking hall, which is a very good setting for a cocktail whether or not you're closing a deal.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
