    Perched on the Rhine in central Basel, this grand old hotel has been around forever, and it carries that history in marble corridors and neoclassical interiors rather than hiding it behind a rebrand. Rooms run firmly toward old-world luxury, the kind where the service anticipates the ask. A Forbes Four Star property, it draws a well-traveled crowd who appreciate that the restaurant takes French tradition seriously. Bob Dylan and Napoleon both stayed here, which is quite a spread.
