Deer wander the grounds freely, as they have since this grande dame hotel opened over a century ago inside Nara Park. Rooms blend traditional Japanese aesthetics with proper modern comfort, and the hotel holds two restaurants, a tea lounge, and a bar stocked with cigars and fine liqueurs. Todai-ji, Kasuga Grand Shrine, and the National Museum are all a short walk away, which makes the location feel almost unfairly convenient.
