    The elevators crack jokes here, which either sets the tone or warns you off entirely. QT Melbourne is a design hotel inside a 1930s cinema, with neon sculptures, 6,000 books on a single wall, and rooms that go unexpectedly quiet: concrete, slate, timber, leather. Corner rooms put the bathtub against floor-to-ceiling windows above the city. Downstairs, Pascale Bar & Grill does wood-fired Euro bistro cooking; the rooftop pours serious gin over unobstructed Melbourne skyline.
