    Perched on Monte Mario in a 15-acre park, this grand Waldorf Astoria hotel sits apart from central Rome with panoramic views stretching to the Vatican. The 1960s architecture and Franco Albini interiors give it the feel of a very well-maintained time capsule, and the private art collection roaming the corridors would embarrass most museums. Alfresco pools, a sprawling spa, and La Pergola on the roof round out the picture for guests who prefer their Eternal City with elbow room.
