  28. Extended-stay hotel in Perimeter Center where the suites come with a two-burner cooktop, dishwasher, and enough counter space to actually cook dinner, which you probably won't because complimentary hot breakfast arrives every morning and the lobby bar handles evenings. The fourth-floor rooftop pool runs heated year-round, a small mercy for Atlanta's three weeks of actual winter. A AAA Three Diamond property, sensible and comfortable without asking you to think too hard about it.

  33. A skybridge from the fifth floor drops you directly onto the Dunwoody MARTA platform, which makes this nine-story hotel far more useful than its spot between two parking garages suggests. Rooms run to oversized TVs and pull-out sofas, and the complimentary hot breakfast each morning is a genuine buffer against Atlanta hotel prices. Shower-only bathrooms are the default, so call ahead if a tub matters to you.

  71. Complimentary Stanley coolers and beach bags packed with towels greet you at check-in, which sets the tone for this 25-room boutique hotel one block from the Balboa Peninsula shore. The rooftop deck looks out over the harbor, and the whole place leans hard into the idea that you came here to do nothing useful. A low-key, sun-faded-in-a-good-way escape for anyone who doesn't need a sprawling resort to feel like they're on vacation.

  90. A mid-range Marriott hotel on Abercorn where the parking garage connects directly to guest floors, which is a small mercy in Savannah's heat. Room layouts run from king to double-queen to open studio suites with sleeper sofas and a second TV. Walk-in showers in king rooms, tub-shower combos in double-queens. Dining, a grocery store, and some shopping are all on foot. A solid, no-drama base for exploring a city that gives you plenty of reasons to be out of your room.

  93. A Hampton Inn that's been freshened up recently, sitting close to Hunter Army Airfield and about four miles from Savannah's historic squares. The hotel runs six stories with standard king and double-queen rooms, plus open studio suites with pull-out sofas for when the group gets bigger. Most rooms have walk-in showers, breakfast includes waffles and eggs, and parking is available in a connected garage, though not free.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
