The best hotels in Èze, according to the experts: the Forbes Travel Guide and the Michelin Guide have both weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Cap Estel comes out on top.

  1. A 28-room boutique hotel perched at the tip of its own five-acre peninsula between Monaco and Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Cap Estel is the Riviera for people who find the Riviera exhausting. Period antiques and Louis XVI chairs share space with bright minimalist whites and blue; terraces look straight out over the Mediterranean. Dining, the beach, a spa, an indoor pool, a cinema, a piano bar: there's genuinely no reason to leave, which appears to be the whole point.

  2. Perched inside a medieval clifftop village halfway between Nice and Monte Carlo, this hotel is essentially a collection of absorbed stone houses scattered across Eze, which means your room might overlook the Mediterranean or the mountains depending on luck. The outdoor terraces and two hillside pools make the most of that altitude. The Michelin Guide awarded it 2 Keys, and on a clear day the view stretches to Cannes.

  3. Perched at the top of Èze village, some 400 meters above the Mediterranean, Château Eza is a boutique hotel that trades on its altitude and its intimacy. Fourteen rooms vary by size and outlook, from medieval village views to open sea. There's no spa or gym, just a lounge bar and a Michelin-starred restaurant with a terrace that makes the case without trying. A quiet alternative to the grander, louder palaces along the coast.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
