The gold-and-red-etched window on Houston reads like a dare, and plenty of people fail it, assuming red-sauce cliché and walking on. Inside, the space is narrow and weathered, and the family crew runs it with the kind of unhurried warmth that suggests nobody's leaving hungry or in a hurry. It's an old-school Italian-American restaurant, the sort where the cacio e pepe and cannoli are doing the heavy lifting without making a fuss about it.
