The best hotels in Toulouse, according to the experts: the Michelin Guide has weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Maison Soclo comes out on top.

  1. Teddy bears on the beds is a design choice that either wins you over immediately or tells you this isn't your hotel. Maison Soclo is a boutique stay in an 18th-century townhouse just west of the Capitole, where the rooms lean into a French idea of British coziness: homespun textures, unfussy surfaces, and an orderly calm. The garden pool and Gaspard's Bar, open late for cocktails, handle the evening. The Michelin Guide awarded it one Key.

  2. A cloud motif runs through the interiors here, a nod to the airmail pilots who once bunked in what is now a design-forward boutique hotel just off the Place du Capitole. Jean-Philippe Nuel handled the fit-out, blending sober modernism with enough whimsy to keep it from feeling corporate. Rooms run from Cosy up to the Suite Saint Exupéry, named for the literary aviator who was once a regular. Breakfast is served in the lounge bar, and then Toulouse is yours.

  3. The facade of an old cinema hides about 120 rooms sized Small through XXL, and Mama Shelter has quietly stitched Toulouse into every corner: rose-city architecture, rugby nods, and street art jostle for wall space. Beds are the priority and the investment; movies are free; the shower products are organic. The rooftop serves wine and tapas under striped umbrellas with views across the Ville Rose, and the bar has table football, DJ sets, and an Argentine grill below.

  4. Joy Division posters near the front desk set the tone at this boutique hotel on Allée Jean Jaurès, where the design brief was apparently 1980s Manchester rather than, say, the Toulouse opera. The brick-walled lobby reads like a recording studio, and rooms come with moody floral murals and rock-and-roll bathrooms. No restaurant, but the Wilson Bar stays open late, and the location puts the whole city within easy reach.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
