The Best Bars in Mount Gough & around

  1. Rank 1. Argo

    Cocktail Bar

The cocktail menu here is built around local collaborators, a banana jam from LoCoFarms turning up in one drink, a pickled kale riff on the G&T in another. Argo is the cocktail bar inside the Four Seasons in Central, so the room is polished and the prices are committed. It lands on Asia's 50 Best Bars and The World's 50 Best Bars lists, which means the out-of-towners are easy to spot, though the bartenders treat everyone the same.

  2. Rank 2. Duddell's

    Cantonese

The bar sits above Shanghai Tang in Central, sharing a floor with a Michelin-starred Cantonese kitchen and rotating gallery walls that have hosted Ai Weiwei. Vintage furniture meets marble in proportions that feel less like a design decision and more like a confident argument. The terrace is modest in scale but heavy on pot plants and personality, and the cocktails are looked after by someone who clearly takes the whole thing seriously.

  3. Rank 3. Gokan

    Cocktail Bar

  4. The seafood tower is the move at this long-running bar inside the Island Shangri-La, where the room runs to white tablecloths and the dress code answers itself. Cary Docherty is back in the kitchen, and regulars who remember the previous run will notice. The bar programme holds its own, and the food skews serious for a drinking room, with pastas and brasserie classics that wander well past bar-snack territory.

  5. Rank 5. Zuma

    Japanese Cocktail Bar

The pitcher plant on the bar arrived from Paris, was thoroughly sterilized, and now holds your cocktail. This bar inside the Landmark does the expected glamorous-hotel-lobby thing, but whoever is running the drinks program has a strange and specific imagination. Carnivorous flora aside, the menu leans tropical and polished, the kind of place where the ice is always right and the bill arrives without ceremony.

  6. Rank 6. Caprice Bar

    Cocktail Bar

Each cocktail on the current menu arrives in its own interactive display box, which is either charming or a lot, depending on your mood. This cocktail bar on the sixth floor of the Four Seasons sits beside one of Hong Kong's great French restaurants, and the bar holds its own. The nine-drink Elements menu builds from a saffron-infused opener to a duck fat-washed finale, with an oyster-leaf-and-champagne number somewhere in the middle.

  7. Rank 7. Tell Camellia

    Cocktail Bar

  8. Rank 7. The Pontiac

    Dive Bar

  9. Rank 9. Baci

    Pizzeria

The cocktail list here picked up a 50 Top Pizza Asia-Pacific award, which is either a compliment to the drinks or a gentle dig at everywhere else in the region. Baci is a bar attached to a lively Italian trattoria in the thick of D'Aguilar Street, and the aperitivo program leans into that setting hard, with wines, spritzes, and enough Italian energy to make Lan Kwai Fong feel briefly like Milan on a warm evening.

  12. Rank 12. Draft Land

    Cocktail Bar

Cocktails on tap, poured like craft beer, from a menu of pre-batched drinks that have been quietly winning over skeptics for years. This two-location cocktail bar, from a concept Antonio Lai brought over from Taiwan, lets you explore the menu with minimal commitment, which suits both the curious and the indecisive equally well. The flavor pairings lean local, with chrysanthemum, pu'er, and oolong showing up alongside the gin and vodka. Purists may grumble; regulars just order another round.

  13. Rank 13. Stockton

    Cocktail Bar

Finding Stockton requires ducking down a narrow alley off Wyndham Street, turning left before a blind door, and climbing a staircase that deposits you into a cocktail bar dressed as a 1890s London gentleman's club. Braces-clad bartenders, house rules, and a serious whiskey list give it the full post-Milk & Honey treatment, and the retro London theme lands differently here, given Hong Kong's own colonial past. Difford's Guide awards it five stars.

  14. Rank 13. The Aubrey

    Japanese

The cocktail menu at this sleek bar on the 25th floor of the Mandarin Oriental is organized like an art collection, which tells you most of what you need to know. The current program leans into Japanese aesthetics, with milk-washed clarified drinks and shochu turning up where you might expect whisky. The room draws a polished crowd happy to pay Mandarin prices for the view and the craft, and on both counts the bar delivers.

  15. Rank 13. The Diplomat

    Cocktail Bar

A narrow letterbox window and a gilded back bar glowing amber set the mood before you've ordered anything. This cocktail bar occupies a moody corner of a Central alley, doing the Edward Hopper thing while remaining fully aware it's doing the Edward Hopper thing. The drinks are the point, and the kitchen pulls its weight too. A 50 Best Discovery and a Pinnacle Guide Pin for good measure.

  16. Rank 16. The Woods

    Cocktail Bar

A polished concrete entrance off Hollywood Road drops you into a basement cocktail bar where sculptural bare trees hung with lights make the name feel earned rather than decorative. The drinks program leans into tweaked classics, a Beet Negroni here, a Galangal Mojito there, and the bar takes the whole thing seriously enough that the woodcut menus feel appropriate rather than precious.

  17. Rank 17. Bar De Luxe

    Ginza-style Cocktail Bar

The house move at Bar De Luxe is "bartender's choice": tell them sweet, bitter, or somewhere in between, and they build you something bespoke on the spot. This sleek cocktail bar on Pottinger Street runs on Ginza discipline, with staff who still train in Tokyo under the lineage of legendary bartender Hidetsugu Ueno. The menu skips heavy conceptual theatre in favor of clean, precisely made drinks, with occasional nods to Hong Kong film history for locals who'd rather not explain themselves.

  18. Rank 17. Courtroom

    Cocktail Bar

The drinks menu at this SoHo cocktail bar is organized like a legal docket, which tells you everything about what kind of crowd thought this up. The team behind Penicillin and Tell Camellia opened Courtroom on the steep slope of Graham Street, and the technical ambition shows: house-made guava and mango wine, rose petal vinegar standing in for vermouth, fennel distillate turning up where you least expect it. Complex builds that somehow still taste like drinks, not experiments.

  19. Rank 17. The Common Room

    Cocktail Bar

A 4am license and a long bar backed with cast iron and glass cabinets set the tone at this gastrobar-leaning cocktail bar tucked into Wo On Lane. Part of the Prive Group, it takes its drinks seriously without taking itself too seriously, which explains why the kitchen quietly retreats to a supporting role most nights. Black-clad regulars pack the place late, and the bartenders keep pace without missing a beat.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
