The 100 Best Places to Drink and Stay in Seattle

The best places to drink and stay in Seattle, according to the experts: The 50, Esquire, and James Beard Awards have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Roquette comes out on top.

More Less

Four Seasons Hotel Seattle and Rob Roy hold the next two places. The Infatuation shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with Michelin Guide next.

Departments

A department belongs to one section, so choosing one narrows the list to it.

  1. Rank 1. Roquette

    French Cocktail Bar

Caviar on Bugles with crème fraîche is either the most knowing joke in Seattle or a perfectly sincere snack, and at Roquette it reads as both. This Belltown cocktail bar runs on a French-spirits obsession, armagnac and calvados and absinthe doing most of the heavy lifting while classic shapes get quietly rerouted through Normandy or Cognac. A James Beard Outstanding Bar semifinalist that landed on North America's 50 Best Bars list.

  2. Elliott Bay views stop conversations mid-sentence here, and the Bay Rooms are built around that fact, with floor-to-ceiling windows and marble soaking tubs positioned accordingly. This downtown Four Seasons sits steps from the Seattle Art Museum, with a 40-foot rooftop infinity pool and a coffee concierge who shows up at your door between six and ten. A Forbes Four Star hotel that takes the Pacific Northwest aesthetic seriously, pale woods and all.

  3. Rank 2. Rob Roy

    Classic Cocktail Bar

The house martini splits its base between vodka and gin, throws in fino sherry and a river rock tincture, and arrives garnished with olives, a twist, and pearl onions, which tells you most of what you need to know about this Belltown cocktail lounge. Rob Roy calls itself a classic bar "with a bit of punk cheek," and the drinks make the case quietly. A James Beard nominee for Outstanding Bar, it has been a neighborhood anchor long enough to feel lived-in without feeling tired.

  4. The front desk is a slab of 3,000-year-old sequoia, which sets the tone for a downtown luxury hotel that takes its design seriously. Philippe Starck did the rooms in mid-century modern, a 1908 beaux arts building anchors the facade, and the glass tower behind it runs 44 stories with views over Elliott Bay. A fine-dining restaurant and a spa are both on-site when you surface. The Michelin Guide awarded it one Key.

  5. Olson Kundig designed the building, and you can feel it: forest greens, midnight blues, velvety textures, and lobby shelves stacked with books about treehouses and cabins. This hotel sits a short walk from Pike Place Market, threading the needle between Pacific Northwest rusticity and a sleek urban nightlife pedigree. The rooms lean masculine and warm, with furnishings that look comfortably broken in rather than showroom-fresh.

  6. Rank 6. L'Oursin

    French

The bar is lit by a marquee sign, the wine list describes something as "the purple nurple of pet-nat," and fresh urchin sometimes arrives in the spiny shell with bread and butter. This wainscoted French bistro on Capitol Hill pairs classic technique with Northwest seafood, keeps the natural wine program largely French, and still serves pimento cheese left over from a pop-up era because the menu has a sense of humor about itself.

  8. Woven kantael mats cover the walls and prahok, the fermented fish paste that anchors Khmer cooking, turns up throughout the menu, which is the quickest way to understand what this Greenwood restaurant and bar is about. The food leans into Cambodian flavors and technique without getting tangled in authenticity debates, and the cocktails follow the same logic: coconut-forward, creative, and only slightly less fish-sauce-forward than the food. Named a Bon Appétit Best New Restaurant in 2024.

  11. Rank 10. Dark Room

    Korean Cocktail Bar

Every cocktail at this Korean cocktail bar in Greenwood comes with a small surprise, none more literal than the Glimpse of Divinity, garnished with a Polaroid of you drinking it. The menu is built around Korean flavors and spirits, and the kitchen's Korean-inspired plates were made to sit alongside them. A Spirited Awards Regional Honoree for Best New U.S. Cocktail Bar in 2024, it punches well above its neighborhood bar footprint.

  12. A barely-there sign on Beacon Hill marks this casual Guamanian restaurant and bar, which is either accidental humility or the universe's way of filtering out TikTokers (it has not worked). The menu follows the chef's biography through Filipino chicken adobo tacos and Guam-style corn soup, but the achiote-orange empanadas, stuffed with raisined beef and served in a pool of fina'denne', are what drew a James Beard semifinalist nod in 2025.

  14. A rooftop cocktail bar at the Graduate Hotel where the décor commits hard to the wilderness merit-badge aesthetic, think canteens and compasses, while the outdoor patio delivers one of Seattle's better skyline panoramas. The drinks lean into the camping bit without losing their nerve, and the bacon sandwich is there for anyone who needs anchoring. A crowd that skews collegiate but cleans up well fills the space once the sun starts dropping behind the Olympics.

  16. Rank 16. Artusi

    Italian

Tiger-striped wood, tile-topped bars, and hanging light tubes give this Capitol Hill cocktail bar a look that's somehow both designed-within-an-inch-of-its-life and still easy to be in. It shares a back door with the pasta restaurant Spinasse but runs on its own logic, with small plates and a drinks list to match. Date-night couples fill the tables while bartenders occasionally step out to take orders, keeping the whole thing warmer than the room suggests.

  20. The menu lists grams of alcohol per cocktail, which is either very responsible or a challenge, depending on your disposition. This intimate Capitol Hill cocktail bar is run by an owner who is, in fact, a licensed physician, and who has spent real time traveling the world to stock one of the more unusual spirits collections in the city. Pours come by the ounce or flight, and cocktails run classic, contemporary, or bespoke.

  22. Half the rooms share a bathroom, and the Ace Hotel will tell you so without flinching. This Belltown hotel pitches itself squarely at travelers who'd rather have 14-foot ceilings and whitewashed brick walls than a private shower. The lobby reads like an art gallery that wandered into the hospitality business, all dark walnut floors and retro-futuristic white walls. Expect a crowd that owns interesting jackets and has opinions about fonts.

  27. The frosty blue glass crown on the Olive 8 tower makes the building easy to spot from most of downtown Seattle, which is convenient because the Hyatt inside positions itself as a business-boutique hotel with a wellness lean, clean lines, and a general Pacific Northwest calm. It sits about halfway between Pike Place Market and Capitol Hill, which is as central as Seattle gets. Guests who need a tidy, modern base without much fuss tend to like it here.

  31. Your pillowcase will feature Bill Murray or David Bowie rendered as a Napoleonic general, which tells you most of what you need to know about this Belltown boutique hotel. Nicole Hollis designed the rooms to play the building's century-old glamour against something wry and contemporary, so the bathrooms manage to feel both vaguely Victorian and quietly modern at once. A Michelin Selected Hotel, and a solid base just north of downtown Seattle.

  34. The Dutch chain's compact formula lands in Pioneer Square: XL king beds, rainfall showers, and tablet controls that handle everything from blackout blinds to room temperature. A 24/7 canteen runs from breakfast through evening cocktails, and the lobby's primary-colored furniture signals that laptops are very welcome. King Street Station is a short walk away. A Michelin Selected Hotel, it's built for people who want a smart, functional night's sleep rather than a personality.

  35. Murals by local artists, including a member of the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe, set the tone in the lobby of this design-forward hotel on the edge of South Lake Union, a short walk from the Amazon campus. Rooms are deliberately compact, trading square footage for oversized beds, blackout blinds, and full app control over lighting and temperature. The implicit deal: the city is your living room, and the bed is very good.

    The awards

  36. Check-in happens at Bar Moxy, which doubles as the lobby, so you're handed a drink before you see your room. The hotel is Marriott's budget-forward brand done with personality: compact rooms in moody charcoal, walk-in showers, motion-activated lighting, and names like Vibe and Groove that are corny enough to circle back around to charming. South Lake Union puts Pike Place and the Space Needle within easy walking distance.

    The awards

  37. A 121-room boutique hotel on First Avenue that will, without making a fuss about it, lay out a doggie bed for your St. Bernard. Art-forward rooms and a genuinely warm staff make it the rare place that manages to feel upscale without feeling exclusive, drawing business travelers, families, and the occasional touring musician in equal measure. Selected by the Michelin Guide.

    The awards

  38. Art Deco bones from the thirties, a wash of UW purple, and a plaid nod to the city's nineties moment: Graduate Seattle is a boutique hotel that wears its neighborhood on its sleeve. Rooms are comfortable without pushing into splurge territory, which fits the University District just fine. There's no bar or restaurant, just a lobby lounge, but the Neptune Theatre is right across the street and the neighborhood fills in the rest.

    The awards

  39. Rank 41. Inside Passage

    Cocktail Bar

Inside Passage will tell you, with some urgency, that it is not a tiki bar. It's a cocktail bar that takes the mid-century beachcomber concept as a starting point rather than a costume, pairing tropical classics like the Jet Pilot and the Saturn with original drinks and alcohol-free options. The immersive decor still commits fully, so the distinction is philosophical, but the cocktail menu makes the argument.

  43. A plain wooden door down a sketchy Belltown alley opens into a speakeasy-style cocktail bar that fits maybe thirty people across two floors. Upstairs, the intimate bar puts you shoulder-to-shoulder with shelves stacked with cocktail books. The menu runs to eight drinks, but the move is Dealer's Choice: name your spirit, name your mood, and let the bartender figure out the rest.

  45. The dark oak bar counter twists through the room like it couldn't decide where to stop, with booths opposite and vintage paneling that makes the whole place feel like it's been here forever. It's a steakhouse bar in Ballard's old commercial strip, and while drinks are the stated purpose, the kitchen has a way of making that position hard to defend. Difford's Guide gives it five stars.

  47. Rank 48. Dead Line

    Latin American Cocktail Bar

  48. Rank 48. Korochka Tavern

    Eastern European Cocktail Bar

The name comes from a childhood nickname meaning "heel of the bread," which tells you something about the spirit of the place. This Wallingford cocktail bar leans into a Soviet parlor aesthetic, all floral upholstery and earthy glassware, with a drinks list built around beets, birch syrup, mushrooms, and green walnut. Slavic snacks fill the gaps between rounds. For purists, a horseradish vodka shot is on the menu and waiting to have a word with you.

  49. Rank 48. Lariat Bar

    Dive Bar

A miniature wrestling ring doubles as the karaoke stage, which tells you everything about the Lariat Bar's priorities. This White Center dive is floor-to-ceiling WWE memorabilia with an actual craft cocktail menu, a combination that shouldn't work as well as it does. The nonalcoholic drinks are listed under "Kayfabe," a wrestling term for keeping the fiction alive, which is either the nerdiest menu label in Seattle or the most honest one.

  50. Rank 48. Revelry Room

    Cocktail Bar

You enter through the alley behind Easy Street Records, following a painted 'R' on the wall, which is either thrillingly covert or a lot of effort for a cocktail bar, depending on your mood. Inside, a 70s-futurist room with chic lighting anchors a menu built entirely around Black-owned breweries, distilleries, and wineries. The DJ booth fills most nights, running from Afrobeat to soul, and the cocktails are serious enough to deserve your full attention before the music gets loud.

  51. Follow the signs through an industrial neighborhood off Dravus, past the fluorescent hallway, past the distillery, and you'll land in a small cocktail bar that smells like a very good apothecary. SennzaFinne makes its own amaro here, and the open bins of calendula and angelica aren't decorative. The chalkboard rotates, the hours are short, and the crowd that finds it tends to feel quietly smug about that.

  52. Candlelight, tchotchkes everywhere, and a cocktail menu that rotates quarterly and takes no obvious shortcuts, The Sitting Room is a cocktail bar in Queen Anne that commits fully to the bit. The drinks lean elaborate, banana-infused tequila or coconut-washed calvados kind of elaborate, and the low- and no-ABV options get the same treatment. The staff keep things chatty rather than precious, which helps when you're genuinely unsure what horchata foam is doing in your glass.

  53. You book by text, and they text back; no app, no OpenTable, just your name and a party size to a Seattle number you'd better save correctly. Knee High is a tiny, reservation-only speakeasy-style cocktail bar tucked away on Olive Way, the kind of place where finding the door is already part of the evening. Late-night slots open up if you're bold enough to text after ten.

  54. Rank 56. Tavern Law

    Cocktail Bar

A blood bank refrigerator and a roulette wheel anchor the bar at this speakeasy-themed cocktail bar in Capitol Hill, where vested bartenders work in front of shelves stacked with bitters and books. The high ceilings and striped wallpaper lean hard into the 1920s bit, and the room delivers on atmosphere even when the service runs a little transactional. Good for a serious drink in a room that at least committed to the costume.

  56. Rank 59. Dreamland Bar & Diner

    American Cocktail Bar

The balcony patio goes by its own name, Carnelian Bay, which tells you most of what you need to know about this Fremont cocktail bar and diner. Margaritas come in disco balls, Jell-O shots taste like homemade jam, and pimento cheese arrives on fried saltines. The steamed burger at happy hour has a cult following among people who take their diner food seriously while pretending not to.

  57. Rank 59. Hannyatou

    Japanese Cocktail Bar

A tiny sake bar tucked next to Kamonegi in Fremont, Hannyatou is the kind of place where the servers will talk you through a flight without making you feel like a student. The snacks, from the same team next door, are good enough that you may accidentally eat dinner here when you came only to drink. The habanero umeshu, when available, tends to inspire the kind of enthusiasm people usually reserve for sports.

  60. Rank 63. Bottlehouse

    Wine Bar

A retrofitted house in Madrona with a porch and backyard patio that gets claimed fast once the sun appears. Bottlehouse is a neighborhood wine bar with a range that runs from Bolivian syrah to Walla Walla grenache blanc, plus wine cocktails that pair well with whatever the resident cheesemonger is recommending. It feels more like a very well-stocked friend's place than a formal tasting room, which is exactly the point.

Behind the bar, shelves climb to the pressed tin ceiling holding one of the deepest spirit collections in the country, including pre-Prohibition bottles most bars only dream about. Edison bulbs, speakeasy nostalgia, and a room that takes itself seriously without quite winking about it.

  63. Rank 63. Daphnes Bar

    Cocktail Bar

A 15-seat marble-counter cocktail bar in Edmonds where the only food on the menu is a brie and baguette platter, which turns out to be exactly what you wanted with your French 75. Textbook coupe drinks are the point: aviations, corpse revivers, the occasional off-menu jungle bird. On a Friday it's a sardine-tin singalong; on a slow Monday the counter still fills fast. The kind of neighborhood bar people immediately claim as their own.

  64. Rank 63. Left Bank

    Wine Bar

Sofa cushions, dangling bulbs, and a record player set the tone at this Georgeorgetown natural wine bar, where the bottles lining the walls are all for sale and priced like someone actually wants you to drink them. The pours run funky, orange, unfiltered, and nothing near a Columbia Valley pinot, and the staff will talk you through all of it with genuine enthusiasm. 67. Rank 63. Persephone

    Wine Bar

String lights, happy green plants, and shelves of natural wine with wacky labels set the tone at this Columbia City aperitivo bar and bottle shop. It lives next door to Italian restaurant La Medusa, which means a lot of people wander in for a quick pre-dinner drink and end up staying. The chalkboard runs deep on amari and bitter red spritzes, with prosecco for anyone who prefers their aperitivo without the herbal lecture.

  68. A speakeasy above a pho shop is a concept that earns its own zip code, and Phocific Standard Time delivers on the premise. The Vietnamese coffee martini has become a reason people climb the stairs specifically, but the bar snacks, caramelized crab dip with sesame saltines among them, make lingering easy. Named one of The Infatuation's most fun Seattle bars, it's a cocktail bar that happens to pair very well with whatever you just had downstairs.

  69. Rank 63. The Nook

    Cocktail Bar

Mules come topped with torched marshmallows and rosemary here, which tells you immediately that this is not your average neighborhood bar, even if it very much looks like one. Mismatched vintage sofas, a fireplace, and bartenders who seem genuinely happy to see you give The Nook the feel of a cozy cabin that someone accidentally stocked with serious cocktails. West Seattle locals treat it like a living room, which is more or less what it is.

Those barrel-aged cocktails sitting in vintage crystal decanters along the back bar are Liberty's calling card, sharing shelf space with 70-plus whiskies, a coffee station, and a sushi setup that nobody questions. It's a casual Capitol Hill cocktail bar with couches by the front windows and bench seating opposite the bar, the kind of room built for lingering. Industry folks and neighborhood regulars tend to find each other here without much effort.

  72. The chalkboard menu at this corner tapas bar looks like it's been there forever, which is kind of the point. Patatas bravas, garlicky shrimp, octopus, and chorizo rotate through in the Spanish tradition the team fell in love with while backpacking through Madrid. The room is small, retro without trying, and built-in banquettes give it the settled-in feel of a neighborhood place that has nothing left to prove.

  79. Rank 81. Local Tide

    Seafood

Counter-service seafood in Fremont, where the chef sources directly from local fisheries, a supply-chain headache most spots at this price point don't bother with. The menu reads like Pacific Northwest bar food done with actual conviction: rockfish banh mi, salmon teriyaki, home fries tangled with smoked cod. The crab roll on a split-top bun comes out only on weekends, so plan accordingly. The New York Times put it on their Seattle list, which tracks.

  82. Rank 81. Outsider BBQ

    Texas Barbecue

A Turkish American tech worker turned pitmaster drives an hour a day just to source the right bread for his chopped beef sandwiches, which tells you everything about the commitment level here. This is a Texas-style BBQ beer bar in Fremont where the brisket, salt-and-pepper only, runs through the smoker for upward of twelve hours and comes out glossy and dark-edged. The sweet pickles in the potato salad are made in-house purely to be an ingredient, not a garnish.

  85. Rank 81. Tivoli

    Pizzeria

The caesar comes buried under a snowfall of cheese and pankogratto instead of croutons, which tells you everything about how Tivoli works. It's a slice shop and full-pie pizzeria in Fremont that wanders comfortably between New York and Naples without apologizing to either. The pies skew classic-ish, the sandwiches on sesame focaccia could pass at a proper bistro, and the black garlic knots are just there being excellent about it. Ranked #10 on 50 Top Pizza Slice USA.

  87. Rank 97. Hazlewood Bar

    Cocktail Bar

The narrow passage to the left of the bar does not lead to a secret larger room; that's just the toilet. Hazlewood is a tiny cocktail bar in Ballard, once a coffee shop, where the counter is a few strides from the door and the upstairs lounge has the square footage of a treehouse. Come on a quiet weeknight and you'll spend a moment genuinely confused about where everyone is supposed to sit. The answer, apparently, is close together.

  88. Tucked below Pike Place Market where the street tilts toward the water, this Italian restaurant bar is easy to miss, which is half the point. The bar area is compact and carefully stocked, with grappa, cognac, and malt whisky sitting alongside cocktails that get proper attention. The bistro setting around it is relaxed enough that nobody is checking how long you've been nursing your drink.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
