Named for Oscar Wilde's famously vain antihero, this Autograph Collection hotel in downtown Calgary leans into the reference with Art Deco lines, Victorian flourishes, and enough knowing winks to keep an English Lit graduate busy. The rooms are thoroughly modern underneath all that period cosplay. Restaurants lean on Alberta beef, which is the right call given the address. The Michelin Guide awarded it one Key.

The Gold Experience is a hotel-within-a-hotel tier at the Fairmont Banff Springs, that sandstone castle the Rockies have been posing behind for well over a century. Gold guests get a private courtyard entrance, dedicated fifth-floor lounge with all-day refreshments, and a concierge who actually books things. The Forbes Four Star property's golf, spa, and mineral pools are still yours; you're just skipping the lobby scrum to get there.

The splendid red-brick facade on Picton's main street nearly came down before someone decided wine-country tourism had other ideas. A Michelin Key hotel, the Royal is a full-service stay with a spa, sauna, and seasonal outdoor pool, plus a kitchen that leans hard into Prince Edward County farms and local wines. Heritage bones, contemporary rooms, and the kind of place you book when a winery weekend calls for something more than a roadside inn.

You arrive by seaplane or not at all, which sets the tone immediately. Clayoquot is a canvas-tent wilderness resort on Vancouver Island's Pacific coast, where 25 furnished tents on cedar walkways split the difference between a British expedition and a genuinely comfortable bed. The Cookhouse serves open-fire meals built around coastal ingredients, a snooker table waits in its own tent after dinner, and spa tents handle the rest. It holds a Michelin 3 Keys distinction.

- #105 Fairmont Tremblant 76.8
-
Ski-in, ski-out access puts the slopes about as close as the minibar at this large Laurentian resort hotel sitting at the foot of Mont-Tremblant. The rooms lean modern with a nod toward mountain rusticity, and the facilities run deep: spa, health club, and an outdoor pool that stays open through Quebec winters, which takes a certain commitment. Montrealers have been coming here forever, and the village has a distinctly French feel that Whistler can't match.

Antique furnishings, crystal chandeliers, and only 25 rooms give this Forbes Four Star boutique hotel the feel of a small English country manor that happens to be a short walk from the Stratford Festival. The contemporary restaurant leans into locally sourced Canadian cooking, the indoor pool works year-round, and the English gardens are the kind of thing that makes a post-dinner stroll feel like a reasonable life choice.

The Vancouver Stock Exchange's 1929 shell now anchors a skyscraper hotel in the financial district, and the Art Deco bones are very much still flexing. EXchange Hotel Vancouver is a full-service luxury stay where the interiors read glamorous without tipping into theatrical, and the rooms work equally well for a romantic weekend or a polished work trip. The Martini Rooms come with in-room self-serve bars, which either sounds like a perk or a liability depending on who's paying.

Once the tallest building in the British Empire, the Royal York now plays underdog to the glass towers crowding Front Street. It's a grand old railway hotel with all the ceremony that implies: sweeping public rooms, a spa with a 50-foot pool, and enough dining options that you never have to leave. The Michelin Guide lists it among its selected hotels. Modern comforts are there; the bones are clearly what people come for.

Fireplaces come standard in most rooms, which tells you something about where L'Hermitage sits on the downtown Vancouver hotel spectrum. It's a small luxury hotel on Richards Street, clean-lined and coolly styled without reaching for anything avant-garde. Marble baths, king beds, and suites with full kitchens and in-unit laundry make it feel less like a hotel stay and more like borrowing a very well-appointed friend's apartment.

Getting here requires a seaplane over Desolation Sound or a boat past seal colonies, which sets the tone nicely. This remote, seasonally open luxury resort is the only property on Sonora Island, a cedar-and-stone collection of timber lodges with mineral pools, fly-fishing ponds, and a spa. Rooms have picture windows over the sea, and a few villas perch directly on the rocks. Bald eagles turn up at dinner without being invited.

A private floor inside Ottawa's grandest castle hotel, the Gold Experience trades the main lobby's grand theater for a quieter check-in, a dedicated lounge, and rooms where some windows frame Parliament like a postcard that never gets old. Goose-down duvets and bedside reading lamps signal what kind of boutique hotel this is: one that treats comfort as a design principle rather than an afterthought. Le Germain sits in Toronto's entertainment district, steps from theaters, restaurants, and Scotiabank Centre, so the location does real work. Nobu's first Canadian hotel squeezes just 36 rooms into the downtown Entertainment District, which makes it feel more like a private club than a chain outpost. Pale wood, floor-to-ceiling windows, and stone bathrooms with soaking tubs carry the brand's minimalist Japanese aesthetic throughout. Corner suites get the skyline; lake-facing ones get glass fireplaces. The Sakura Lounge, a tea house-inspired retreat, is kept for guests only, which is a rare thing this close to TIFF headquarters.

Glass tower next to BC Place, the Douglas is a luxury hotel that splits the difference between slick modernism and loft-industrial warmth. Bold colors and Frette linens fill a boutique hotel that sits squarely in Yaletown, where the cafes, galleries, and restaurants make the central business district feel like a punishment. The brick facade softens the contemporary building from the outside, and the renovated rooms come with Herman Miller chairs and Malin + Goetz products for people who notice those things. A Dale Chihuly glass sculpture in the lobby sets the tone: this Wellington Street West boutique hotel pairs modernist furniture and neutral tones with soaking tubs and Molton Brown products in the bathrooms. Every room in this red brick Victorian hotel on Queen West was decorated by a different Canadian artist and carries a title like an original artwork, not just a number. Beds raised off the floor, desks that slide into the wall, glassed-in bathrooms, and a courtyard strung with hammocks and lit by firepits: a wallet-friendly hotel on a narrow street just below the old city walls. Rooms are compact but thought out, and the breakfast room tends to hold guests longer than planned. Old Quebec and the St. Lawrence are a short walk away, so you spend your money on the city, not the room.

A handful of Augustine Sisters still live here, which makes checking into this Old Québec wellness hotel feel like something other than a normal Tuesday. The 17th-century monastery spent nearly four centuries as a convent before becoming a hotel; the former nuns' quarters now hold a mix of period and contemporary rooms, with meditation, holistic treatments, and archives the UNESCO crowd takes seriously.

The alabaster fireplace in the lobby glows like a lantern, which is a strange thing to find inside a ten-story Beaux-Arts building in Vieux-Montréal. That contrast is the whole point of the St. Paul Hotel: a seriously spare, design-magazine interior dropped into a grand historic shell. High ceilings and big picture windows help. The Michelin Guide has it among its selected hotels, and the neighborhood alone earns its keep on a long weekend.

Nine rooms in a building that's been around forever, perched above the St. Lawrence in Old Quebec. The Hôtel Cap Diamant is a quiet boutique hotel where tall windows look out over either Cap Diamant or the old town rooftops, and high ceilings keep things from feeling precious despite all the custom furniture. Breakfast doubles as an excuse to stay at the table. Château Frontenac is a short walk away, which you'll appreciate and then ignore.

A broadcast-ready recording studio in the lobby bar is either bold or completely on-brand for the W, and here it reads as both. This hotel lands in Yorkville with the chain's signature riot of color and sculptural architecture, a rooftop restaurant and bar from Akira Back, serious fitness and wellness facilities, and public spaces that pull in the neighborhood as much as the guests. Selected by the Michelin Guide.

Gold tile and velvet in every direction signal you're not at a chain. Hôtel Maurice is a boutique hotel on Grande-Allée inside a former political club, and the Art Deco bones are played straight, marble, iridescent showers, bold color blocking, and minibars stocked as if someone expected guests to pregame. On weekends, DJs and a cigar lounge upstairs make the building feel closer to a club than a hotel, which, historically, isn't far off.

Wine Bar
Natural wine bar in South Granville with a list that rotates fast enough to keep the regulars guessing. Grapes & Soda was an early champion of biodynamic and natural labels in Vancouver, and the backbar backs it up with small-batch local spirits and a solid run of bottles from Mexico. The room fits exactly one bartender, so some ingredients come pre-batched, which keeps things moving without losing the plot.

A French Renaissance castle on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River sounds like a fever dream, but the Macdonald has been standing there in full storybook seriousness for ages. Inside, it's a polished Fairmont luxury hotel with handsome rooms, lavish suites named for Churchill and royalty, and an afternoon tea that regulars treat as a standing appointment. It holds a Michelin Key.

Check-in happens at the bar, and the first drink is free, which tells you everything about what kind of hotel this is. Rooms are compact and deliberately so, with open closets and walk-in showers, while Bar Moxy does triple duty as lounge, library, and weekend DJ venue. Grab-and-go runs around the clock for the chronically hungry. The waterfront and convention center are minutes away, and the Michelin Guide has it listed among selected hotels.

The grand lobby here has been greeting Calgarians since forever, and it shows in the best way: the bones are historic, the rooms have been quietly updated to feel neither fussy nor sterile, and the whole place carries the easy confidence of a hotel that has never needed to reinvent itself. The Michelin Guide selected it. Hawthorn Dining Room handles food and drinks all day, leaning on Alberta farmers and ranchers for what ends up on the plate.

Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the Bow River and the Calgary skyline from most rooms, which sets the tone for this clean-lined hotel in East Village. The public spaces shift easily between laptop sessions and idle afternoons, and the design has texture without trying too hard. Wood-Fired Mediterranean
Stacks of firewood against the dark brick walls signal what this small-plates Mediterranean spot is actually about: wood-fired proteins and serious cooking from the Alo Food Group, Patrick Kriss's team. The room inside the Ace Hotel runs dark and sleek, with big windows cutting the mood just enough. The menu ranges from carpaccio to roast chicken and lamb, and regulars know to save room for the coconut cream pie if it's on.

The two-sided fireplace in the center of the room does a lot of heavy lifting at this sleek hotel lounge inside the Fairmont Pacific Rim. Pull up a seat at the marble bar or grab one near the stage for nightly live music, and order from a sushi-focused menu that leans on local salmon and steelhead. Perched on the Pointe-au-Pic bluffs above the St. Lawrence, this grand ivy-covered château of a resort has been pulling people out of the city for a very long time. Hundreds of rooms run to dark wood, patterned carpets, and Le Labo toiletries; better ones add river views and soaking tubs. Golf, skiing, a spa, and multiple dining rooms ensure guests rarely need to leave, which is rather the point. The Michelin Guide awarded it one Key.

The tartare here arrives bright with herbs and anchovy salt, which tells you most of what you need to know about Chez Céline's register. It's a French bistro and bar on Fraser Street, the kind of neighbourhood spot that somehow also reads as subtly refined, in the Quebec casse-croûte tradition. J-C Poirier and Margaux Herder's room is cozy without being sleepy, and the cocktail program is serious enough to earn a Spirited Awards regional nod.

Perpetual tropics in downtown Montreal, regardless of what February is doing outside. Le Mal Nécessaire is a sprawling cocktail bar with tall pillars, soaring ceilings, and a long polished bar that commits hard to the urban-equatorial bit. Drinks split neatly between breezy coconut-and-rum constructions and more serious, grown-up pours, so the crowd tends to contain both people unwinding and people who actually read the back of an amaro bottle.

Rank 166. The Shameful Tiki Room Toronto
Cocktail Bar
Dried leaves hang from the ceiling, carved masks line the walls, and the pink lighting will make you look either very healthy or very unwell, depending on how many barrels deep you are. This Parkdale tiki bar runs a barrel-rating system on its cocktail menu, and nothing clocks in below two out of five, which tells you something about the room's general intentions. Rum is the obvious throughline, served in every vessel short of a fishbowl.

Thirty suites on the shores of Lake Tremblant, each running at least 700 square feet, with wood-burning fireplaces and soaking tubs deep enough to disappear into for a weekend. This boutique ski hotel takes its aesthetic cues from the Swiss Alps, which sounds like a cliché until you're inside and stop caring. The slopes are a short walk away, the spa runs year-round, and the restaurant punches well above its address. One Michelin Key.

Floor-to-ceiling windows and rainfall showers in a hotel that has quietly decided fuss isn't the point. Alt is a modern, no-frills business hotel in Ottawa's downtown core, and the rooms are bright, well-equipped, and easy to live in for a few days. The in-house café and bar runs all day and turns out coffee that surprises. Parliament Hill and the Rideau Canal are a short walk away, and so is the light rail.

Oak walls and polished concrete set the tone in the lobby, where the furniture arrangements shift to suit co-working or a quiet sit-down. It's a design-forward hotel in Calgary's University District, built to LEED standards and stocked with Canadian-made furnishings throughout the guest rooms. Large windows and bold graphics keep things lively without tipping into try-hard. The Rockies are a reasonable drive out, and the neighbourhood handles most other needs on foot.

- #187 The Metcalfe 70.805
-
The Gray Collection brought a Montreal boutique sensibility to downtown Ottawa, and the Metcalfe sits in quiet contrast to the corporate hotels around it. Rooms run loft-inspired with good light, the Living Room shifts from morning coffee to evening cocktails without missing a beat, and Cocotte Bistro handles French bistro cooking with a local lean. It's the kind of hotel that makes you feel slightly smug about not staying at the Marriott next door.

The glacial lake it overlooks is an almost implausible shade of turquoise, and the hotel's scale matches the landscape rather than fighting it. This is a grand railway-era resort in the Canadian Rockies, the kind that draws guests who want wilderness close enough to admire but a proper bed waiting when they're done. It holds a Michelin Key, and the Rockies do the heavy lifting on atmosphere from the moment you arrive.

The weathered redwood building that houses this 17-room lodge also holds the community's general store and post office, which sets the tone. Sea Ranch was a 1960s experiment in low-impact coastal living, and the lodge keeps that spirit intact while quietly upgrading the comfort level. Miles of rocky Sonoma coastline sit just outside, and the restaurant and bar give you a reason to stay in. Michelin awarded it a Key.

A red-roofed log lodge on the Icefields Parkway, this Michelin Key property sits deep in Rocky Mountain wilderness with Bow Lake out front and not much else for miles. The log construction looks rustic and means it, but the rooms are quietly modern inside. Every evening, guests gather for a four-course set dinner in the Elkhorn Dining Room, which makes it feel less like a hotel and more like a very scenic house party.

Geothermal heating and floor-to-ceiling windows in the heart of Winnipeg's SHED district, right across from the Canada Life Centre. This Green Key certified hotel keeps rooms bright and minimal, with bold color blocking and local art on the walls. The lounge fills with pre-game crowds and post-show regulars, which tells you something about the location. A Michelin Selected Hotel.

Château-style turrets rising above Broadway have made this grand railway hotel a fixture of the Winnipeg skyline for longer than anyone working the front desk can remember. The rooms keep the high ceilings, dark woodwork, and vintage bones while sneaking in comfortable modern finishes. The domed Palm Room hosts live jazz and a menu that leans on Manitoba's seasons. Sitting at Portage and Main, one of those intersections Canadians actually argue about, this Fairmont is a full-service downtown hotel with rooms done in soft neutrals and warm woods, some with views over the Red River, others toward the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. House-made chocolates on arrival, staff who anticipate things. The Velvet Glove restaurant leans hard into Manitoba ingredients, which in this province is not a small commitment.

The JW Marriott sits inside Edmonton's Ice District, where Rogers Place anchors a neighborhood built around the city's near-religious devotion to the Oilers. It's a luxury hotel with enough Alberta in it to feel grounded, natural textures and local art woven through spaces that could otherwise read as any upscale property anywhere. Braven handles high-end chophouse duties, while the Alchemy cocktail bar handles urban glamour. The Michelin Guide has it in their Selected Hotels list.
