The Best Places in North District de Saint-Édouard

  1. A Michelin-starred tasting room on a residential stretch of Rue Bélanger, about as far from tourist Montréal as you can get while still being in it. Chef Simon Mathys runs a five-course carte blanche menu that changes constantly and leans hard into Quebec terroir, with sauces and emulsions doing the heavy lifting. Seats around fifty, opens five nights a week, and fills up fast enough that reservations aren't optional.

  2. Rank 2. Rôtisserie La Lune

    Rotisserie French

Free-range chickens and ducks turn slowly on the spit here, arriving golden with hand-punched fries and a serious pour of house-made gravy. This is a brasserie rotisserie from the team behind Mon Lapin, rebuilt from scratch with small-farm sourcing and a Bib Gourmand to show for it. The 70-seat room, warm and lunar-themed, fills with families early and late-night regulars after ten, held together by a short, considered wine list.

  3. Rank 3. Bar St-Denis

    Contemporary French

The long bar suggests a casual night out, but Bar St-Denis is a proper contemporary French restaurant where the cooking quietly negotiates between Escoffier and Beirut. Both falafel and boudin find a home on the same menu, and the kitchen, run by Au Pied de Cochon alumni, handles the tension with enough technique that it stops feeling like a concept. The room is art deco with the fussiness dialed back, and the wine list leans natural.

  4. Rank 3. Casavant

    French

The sausage and mash has its own name here, which tells you something about how this French bistro operates. Chef Charles-Tristan Prévost, a Le Club Chasse et Pêche alumnus, runs a room in Jean Talon market country where the produce shows and the natural wine list is longer than the pretension. Bib Gourmand from Michelin. Evenings stretch into tartare and duck; service stays loose throughout.

  6. The specials list is where Pichai really moves, rotating through local ingredients that shift with the season and Quebec's own producers. This boisterous Thai restaurant on St-Hubert leans hard into Isaan cooking, the spicy, funky, herb-driven food of northern Thailand, alongside a wine list of low-intervention whites and skin-contact pours. Thai families and well-travelled regulars fill the room together, both with strong opinions about what to order. Ranked 36th on Canada's 100 Best.

  7. Rank 7. Montréal Plaza

    Contemporary French

A doll's house hangs upside down from the ceiling, plastic triceratops serve as tartare vessels, and somewhere near the bar sits Elmo. The whimsy is deadpan and fully committed, which tracks for a fine dining room where the French tradition gets quietly rerouted through Japanese technique. The tasting menu wasn't planned but stuck around by popular demand, which tells you something. Canada's 100 Best lists it at number thirteen.

  8. A Syrian and Armenian mezze restaurant on Jean-Talon, run by two sisters whose family heritage shapes every dish on the table. Shared plates of labneh, hummus, and fattoush arrive with grilled pita, and the beef kebabs come seasoned with fléflé, a Syrian red pepper condiment that quietly runs the show. Save room for the mehalabié, a rosewater and orange blossom pudding that earns its place at the end. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand.

  9. Rank 10. Les Mômes

    Modern French

  10. A nine-course tasting menu anchors this intimate fine-dining room on Rue Bélanger, though à la carte keeps things from feeling too precious. The chef came up at Joe Beef and Paloma, and the cooking carries that pedigree without showing off about it: seasonal, tightly composed, precise enough that sea urchin in a butter evoking Sunday roast chicken lands as a coherent idea rather than a stunt. Canada's 100 Best named it among the country's top restaurants.

  11. An olive oil negroni greets you before the Italian food even begins, which tells you something about how this restaurant on Saint-Denis thinks. The menu runs from crispy arancini and house-made pasta to scallop crudo with fennel granita, traditional instincts with a restless edge. The wine list is carefully chosen, the service warm without being theatrical, and the room feels like somewhere the chef actually wants you to enjoy yourself.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
