The best places in Cave Creek, according to the experts: AZ Central and the Phoenix New Times have both weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. The Buffalo Chip Saloon comes out on top.
More Less
Cryin’ Coyote BBQ and Rare Earth Gallery hold the next two places. The Phoenix New Times shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with AZ Central next.

Geodes the size of ottomans, fossil slabs, and crystals that look like they were staged by a very ambitious set designer share the floor here with pieces scaled for a backyard or a corporate lobby. Rare Earth Gallery sits in Cave Creek and reads more like a natural history museum than a shop, which is either a sales strategy or a genuine obsession, possibly both. Either way, it's a strange and surprisingly absorbing afternoon.

Rank 4. Le Sans Souci
French
A cozy, tiled dining room in the Cave Creek hills serving classic French fare across brunch, lunch, and dinner, the kind of place that still does cherries jubilee without irony. The menu runs from croque monsieur to crepes in béchamel, onion soup to crème brûlée, and the whole thing feels like it's been there forever because it has. The drive from Phoenix is real, but so is the feeling that you've wandered somewhere far less frantic.
