A botanical art installation behind the front desk and water features throughout the lobby signal that this casino resort in the San Bernardino foothills is trying to be something calmer than the 6,500 slot machines on the floor below might suggest. The 432-room tower earns a Forbes Four Star rating, with a wellness spa, poolside cabanas, and a full spread of dining options. Highland is 70 minutes from L.A., which is part of the pitch.
