The Top 89 Places to Eat Near Marrow

  1. Rank 3. Saffron De Twah

    Moroccan Middle Eastern

  2. Rank 4. Selden Standard

    Rustic New American

  3. Rank 7. Vecino

    Modern Mexican

  4. Rank 8. Freya

    New American

  5. Rank 13. BARDA

    Live-Fire Steakhouse

  6. Rank 26. Prime + Proper

    Modern American Steakhouse

Glass, marble, and open-flame grills fill a room that makes clear this is a steakhouse with architectural ambitions. Downtown Detroit's Prime + Proper dry-ages its USDA Prime and Japanese Miyazaki cuts in-house before the fire gets anywhere near them, which is either discipline or showmanship, and possibly both. The wine list swings between Napa and the Old World. It ranked 65th on the World's Best Steak Restaurants list, for what that's worth on a Tuesday night in Michigan.

  7. Detroit-style pizza done with a designer's eye: the room was put together by serious industry names, and the color palette announces that before you've ordered. This is a pizza shop with round pies, pan pies, and slices piled high with the kind of stretchy, abundant cheese that makes a mess of your shirt. The menu runs to salads and cocktails and ice cream too, and the whole mood lands somewhere between a proper night out and a very good Tuesday.

  8. Rank 46. Mabel Gray

    New American

  9. Rank 54. AlTayeb

    Middle Eastern

  10. Detroit-style pizza comes out of the oven as a thick, airy square with a crispy, caramelized undercarriage, and Palazzo di Pizza has quietly become one of the better places in the country to eat one. It ranked tenth on 50 Top Pizza's national slice list, which for a suburban Royal Oak shop is a notable thing. The pepperoni option, layered under the cheese and sauce in true Detroit fashion, is the move.

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. It runs on the scored places nearby: more good stuff within reach, higher score. If it looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
