The best seafood in Paris, according to the experts: Michelin Guide, Le Fooding, and The Infatuation have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Gaya par Pierre Gagnaire comes out on top.

More Less

Clamato and Divellec hold the next two places. Michelin Guide shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with Le Fooding next.

  1. The bright blue façade on rue de Saint-Simon is easy to spot, and inside it's a chic, unfussy brasserie where the menu tilts almost entirely toward the sea. Pierre Gagnaire holds a Michelin star here, and the kitchen applies that same restless precision to shellfish and line-caught fish rather than the grand tasting-menu format. The room draws a quietly confident crowd who know exactly where they've booked.

  2. A Clamato is a Bloody Mary with clam juice, and yes, you can order one here at this seafood wine bar, the sibling to Septime around the corner on rue de Charonne. The menu is short, the fish and vegetables arrive simply cooked on sharing plates, and the whole thing takes its cues from American East Coast oyster bars filtered through a Paris sensibility. No reservations, so the line outside is part of the deal. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

  4. Rank 3. Zostera

    Seafood

A seagrass named the restaurant, which tells you everything about the chef's obsession. This Michelin-starred seafood table in the quiet 16th is the project of a chef who came up through some serious Parisian kitchens and channeled it all into fish, shellfish, and the odd vegetable given equal reverence. The room is elegant without being stiff, and the cooking is precise in the way that makes precision feel effortless rather than anxious.

  8. A standing-room wine and snack bar wedged next to Yves Camdeborde's famous Saint-Germain bistro, this little sibling runs on oysters, anchovies, boudin noir, and whatever else the kitchen feels like playing with that evening. The menu reads like a party where nobody agreed on a theme, which turns out to be exactly right. You'll be pressed against strangers holding a glass of natural wine, and you won't mind at all.

  9. The painted ceiling and Art Nouveau tilework make it easy to forget your menu exists, which would be a shame because Cyril Lignac's kitchen leans into fish and seafood with real conviction. This Parisian bistro in the 11th has the bones of a classic and the cooking of someone who isn't interested in coasting on them. The lobster roll and the millefeuille have both become regulars' standing orders.

    Seafood

Oysters and whole fish have been the point here since forever, and the Rostang family has kept the white tablecloth seafood brasserie formula running without apology. Bouillabaisse, cod aioli, and shellfish towers anchor a menu that reads like a love letter to the French coast. The room on Place du Maréchal-Juin feels properly Parisian, the kind of elegant but unstuffy that takes years to calibrate. Finish with the chocolate soufflé.

  17. Rank 14. Langosteria

    Seafood Italian

On the seventh floor of La Samaritaine, this Milan-born seafood restaurant brings its signature Italian coastal cooking to a room where the Seine view does half the work. Refined crudos and pasta built around sea urchin and line-caught fish anchor a menu that takes the ocean seriously. The crowd arrives dressed for the occasion, which at Cheval Blanc means arriving dressed.

  22. A seafood restaurant with its own fish-maturing cellar and a bar big enough to make a statement, VIVE has been a Paris institution since forever. David and Stéphanie Le Quellec now run the kitchen, bringing a very Breton sensibility to dishes built for sharing: fish and shellfish sourced from Atlantic and Mediterranean markets, served in a room of long banquettes and genuine old-school grandeur. Dress accordingly.

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
