The best American food in Paris, according to the experts: Le Fooding, the Michelin Guide, and The Infatuation have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. BRU comes out on top.

More Less

Holybelly and Buck Fried Chicken & More hold the next two places. Le Fooding shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with the Michelin Guide next.

  1. Rank 1. BRU

    Cajun & Creole

The chef calls it "Frenchie-tropical," which is a better description than anything you could invent: a casual bistro in the 9th where Creole cooking from Martinique meets the Parisian set-menu format. Cassava blitzed with garlic cream, white beans in coconut milk, a rotating carte that doesn't sit still. The Michelin Bib Gourmand lands here, and online booking is the only way in.

  2. Holybelly is a Canal Saint-Martin brunch café where Paris queues for pancakes, a sentence that would have baffled the city a generation ago. Savory or sweet, they're fluffy, and the espresso drinks hold their own beside them. There are no reservations, so a 30-minute wait is the cost of admission unless you arrive at nine or after the three o'clock lull. Solo diners can slip past the line by heading straight for the bar.

  6. Rank 6. Hestia

    Barbecue

Stone walls and white beams on one of Paris's most chaotic tourist streets, which makes the calm inside feel earned. Hestia is a barbecue restaurant where the seasonal menu revolves around the grill, and meat gets carved tableside once it's done. The chef cooks without ceremony, letting the fire do the talking. The floor runs with quiet competence to match. Book ahead; the room is small and the word is out.

  7. Rank 7. Specimen Burger

    American Burger Joint

A tiny counter-service burger joint just off the Saint-Germain drag, doing smashburgers on potato buns that arrive in a state of structural collapse. You'll go through a pile of napkins and call it a fair trade. Cheese is American, the sauce leans pickle and mustard, and the one other option is a portobello that doesn't feel like a consolation prize. Order the housemade ketchup, which tastes faintly of apples, and the fries.

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
