The best vegan in Portland, according to the experts: AAA, Eater, and The Infatuation have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Bob's Red Mill Whole Grain Store & Visitor's Center comes out on top.
More Less
Dirty Lettuce and Jet Black hold the next two places. Eater shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with AAA next.

Rank 2. Jet Black
Vegan Coffee
Jet Black is a vegan coffee shop in Gateway, named after a Jawbreaker song, which tells you roughly what's on the stereo. They roast their own beans, default to two shots of espresso, and stock enough plant milks that hemp gets a seat. The front deck is spacious, the breakfast sandwich is an English muffin with a sausage patty and Mama Lil's peppers, and nobody seems to be performing anything.

Rank 2. Obon Shokudo
Vegan Japanese
Obon Shokudo is a small, bright Japanese comfort food spot on SE Grand where the whole menu happens to be vegan, a fact it mentions about as loudly as a houseplant. Udon comes in brothy curry or chilled with sesame, and the onigiri get a smear of miso made from things like hominy or pistachios. Fermented hot sauce and tofu get made in-house too. Portland Monthly put it on its 50 Best Restaurants list.

Rank 5. Mirisata
Vegan Sri Lankan
Mirisata is a counter-service Sri Lankan spot on Belmont, and it's fully vegan, worker-owned, and tip-free, which covers three Portland personality types in one stop. The daily rice and curry arrives on a banana leaf, with four rotating dishes at different heat levels. The roti and pastries are worth a second order if you're bringing company. Eat inside or at the patio picnic tables, and it's listed among Eater's 38 Best Restaurants and Food Carts in Portland.
