  1. Rank 1. INJA

    Japanese

The cold palak paneer is plated to look like Mount Fuji, which tells you everything about the mood here. INJA is a fine dining restaurant inside The Manor Hotel that folds Indian and Japanese cooking into each other with a straight face and a good sense of humor. Kachori gets salmon caviar, cauliflower street food becomes a maki roll. Cocktails lean into the same playful logic. It earned a spot on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list.

  2. A tree sculpture anchors the central bar of this upscale izakaya inside the JW Marriott Aerocity, where indigo floors meet textured concrete and floor-to-ceiling windows open onto a terrace. TV chef and restaurateur Dave Myers brought his Japanese flagship concept here in its first izakaya form, a dressed-up take on the classic Tokyo drinking-den format. The 50 Discovery named it among their picks.

  4. A Japanese restaurant inside a boutique guesthouse in Assagao, where giant palms shade an indoor-outdoor room that looks out over a pool. The original outpost in Mumbai built a following among people serious about Japanese food, and this Goa sibling carries the same ambitions north. The cocktail list leans hard into Japanese pantry ingredients, yuzu, umeshu, shiso, and is worth starting with before anything else arrives.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
