The best Thai food in Austin, according to the experts: The New York Times and The Infatuation have both weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. P Thai's Khao Man Gai comes out on top.

More Less

Super Thai and Blue Apsara hold the next two places. The Infatuation shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with The New York Times next.

  1. A chicken rice shop on Airport Boulevard where the whole birds go through a poaching-to-ice-bath-to-hang-dry process that makes the skin pull taut and the meat collapse at the knife. The cooking traces back to Chinese immigrants who brought their techniques to Thailand and rewired them with bolder flavors. The chef landed on the 2025 New York Times Restaurant List and is a 2026 James Beard semifinalist. Seven house sauces come with; order all of them.

  2. Super Thai is a casual Thai spot on South Lamar, announced by big colorful letters that save everyone a lot of reading. The front half is a takeout operation where the phones never stop and people come and go every few seconds. Past the host stand, a cozy dining room and a long bar take walk-ins, and the weekday lunch menu keeps portions small enough that you can still return to work upright.

  3. Rank 3. Blue Apsara

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
