  1. The restaurant sits one floor above Seoul's Majang Meat Market, which is less a detail than the whole point. Born and Bred is a butcher-led beef omakase built around Hanwoo, Korea's native cattle, selected and aged by someone who grew up inside the trade. Binchotan charcoal does the cooking with a restraint the beef seems to expect. It ranked 26th on the World's Best Steak Restaurants list, and the counter keeps seatings small enough that each cut arrives as a considered choice.

  2. Rank 2. ELPIC

    Steakhouse

A steakhouse that aged its reputation on Jeju Island before bringing the whole operation to Gangnam. The kitchen cycles steaks over low charcoal heat and lets them cool, repeating the process for over half an hour to coax out tenderness in a way that feels more like a ritual than a recipe. Dry-aged, wet-aged, and beeswax-aged cuts are all on offer, and the grilled Jeju squid is not an afterthought.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
