Punk Royale is an avant-garde tasting menu restaurant where a 20-course dinner might involve vodka poured from a petrol can, a palate cleanser shot directly into your mouth, or a chef hand-feeding you Norwegian lobster. Art Nouveau curves and a century's worth of eclectically layered interiors set the mood at this boutique-ish hotel on upscale Östermalm. Seventy rooms puts it in an awkward middle zone between boutique and full luxury, and it leans into that gracefully. A wine bar, a proper restaurant, and a casual all-day spot mean you rarely need to leave, which is convenient given that Stockholm's famous Saluhall market hall is right next door. The Michelin Guide awarded it one Key.

A roster of Stockholm designers worked on the restoration of a 19th-century landmark, and it shows. One of the two restaurants sits inside the original chapel. A boutique hotel named for a flower-filled family cottage, Villa Dahlia hides soft-toned rooms, Murano glass, and dahlia-red accents behind a firmly Brutalist facade. The rooftop was made for evening views, there's pétanque in the courtyard, and a Nordic spa upstairs for when you've overdone it. Bikes are available to borrow, though the Michelin Guide awarded it a Key, which suggests staying put has its own argument.

Once through, a courtyard garden leads to a trio of Arts & Crafts townhouses converted into a boutique hotel, where the restaurant runs across two rooms: one all sheepskins and candlelight, the other a country-house kitchen, open and unhurried. The cooking is seasonal and considered, the kind of dinner that makes a Stockholm Tuesday feel like a genuine occasion.

Floor-to-ceiling windows open onto a rooftop terrace on both sides, which makes Le Hibou feel less like a hotel bar and more like a very well-appointed penthouse you've somehow talked your way into. White marble bar, low leather sofas, chrome ceiling, the whole aesthetic. It has its own street entrance, mercifully separate from the hotel below. Capacity is tight, so on weekends the early arrivals win.
