The best Japanese food in Stockholm, according to the experts: White Guide, Michelin Guide, and Eater have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Nour comes out on top.

More Less

Sushi Sho and Dashi hold the next two places. White Guide shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with Michelin Guide close behind.

  1. Rank 1. Nour

    Modern Japanese

On the third floor of a city-centre townhouse, this Michelin-starred tasting restaurant is quiet enough that you notice the silence. The format runs aperitifs and snacks in the lounge first, then a procession of modern dishes that pair Swedish produce with Japanese technique. Vendace unagi and smoked reindeer tartare set the tone early, and the kitchen stays in that register throughout. Not a loud room, not a loud menu.

  2. Thirty seats, three sittings, white tiles, and a chef who serves every diner at the exact same moment. Sushi Sho is an omakase counter where Carl Ishizaki runs a famously tight ship, sourcing ingredients with the kind of obsessiveness that makes the simplicity of the room feel entirely intentional. A Michelin star. The knife work alone gives the game away.

  3. Rank 3. Dashi

    Japanese

Dashi, the Japanese broth the place is named for, shows up throughout the set menu here, including as a marinade for amberjack. A Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant on Rådmansgatan, it pairs a spare Nordic-minimalist room with an omakase-style format built around Swedish produce handled with real Japanese precision. A sake list running to some rare bottles rounds things out, and the Mont Blanc dessert has its own following.

  4. Rank 5. Enkai

  5. Fresh wasabi from Japan alongside Argentinian prawns and Canadian black cod makes a quietly globe-trotting argument for omakase in Södermalm. This intimate Japanese counter keeps the format approachable in price without shrinking the ambition, and the chef-owner runs both the kitchen and the room herself, which gives the whole evening a particular warmth. Seafood anchors the menu, though it doesn't stop at sushi.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
