  1. The nam khao, a crispy rice salad built with fermented pork sausage, herbs, and peanuts, gives you a pretty clear idea of what Snackboxe Bistro is doing. This Duluth strip-mall spot serves Lao street food with Thai and Vietnamese overlap, and the portions run large enough that going solo is a genuine logistical problem. The chef's western Laos roots are the throughline, and the Michelin Guide has taken notice.

  2. A Sichuan restaurant in a Duluth strip mall that the Michelin Guide gave a Bib Gourmand, which should tell you something about the drive. Inside, red booths and yellow walls set a no-frills scene, and the family-style food is the entire point. The kitchen leans into the numbing heat Sichuan is known for, with big, carefully cooked dishes that take their time. Regulars tend to know exactly what they're ordering before they sit down.

  3. Rank 3. Pho House

    Vietnamese

Order at the register, find a seat, and eat until you feel better about everything: that's the full operating model at this Vietnamese comfort food spot in Duluth. Pho anchors the menu, with a combination bowl running filet mignon, flank steak, brisket, and meatball, and the bánh mì packed with chargrilled pork and pâté pulls equal weight. The Michelin Guide has it listed, which seems to please nobody and surprise everybody in equal measure.

  4. Rank 4. 9292 Korean BBQ

  5. An all-you-can-eat dim sum spot in Duluth doing exactly what the name promises: as much har gow, pan-fried pork buns, and sesame balls as you can manage in 90 minutes. You order in rounds, three items per person at a time, which keeps things orderly and the kitchen honest. Congee and egg fried rice fill the gaps. Bubble tea costs extra, cash gets you a discount, and the race against the clock adds a certain competitive energy.

  7. The carts roll from opening until mid-afternoon at this dim sum restaurant in Duluth, after which you can order off the menu all day. The room was clearly a steakhouse in a past life, which adds a certain unintentional charm to the weekend rush. Weekends fill fast, so expect a wait. The doufuhua, a tofu dessert in ginger syrup, makes a quietly persuasive case for ending a savory meal on something soft and barely sweet.

  8. A food stall inside Jusgo supermarket, Lao Wei Dao does Shanghai-style dim sum, which means no rolling carts and no Cantonese shortcuts. Order from a kiosk and wait, because the dumplings are folded to order. The xiao long baos and pan-fried pork dumplings are why people bother making the drive out to Duluth. Closed Wednesdays, counter service, and genuinely easy to miss if you've never thought to look inside a grocery store for dinner.

  9. A cavernous dim sum hall where carts start rolling at 10 a.m. sharp on weekends, and a line forms before the doors open. The room is big enough that a cart loaded with shrimp rice noodle rolls or egg custard tarts might not loop back your way, so flag down whatever looks good while you can. The kitchen picks up the broader Chinese menu at 11, but most people come for the carts, which run until three in the afternoon.

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
