The best noodle shops in Queens, according to the experts: Michelin Guide, Grub Street, and The New York Times have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Vert Frais comes out on top.

More Less

Maxi’s Noodle and Maxi’s Noodle 2 hold the next two places. Grub Street shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with Michelin Guide next.

  1. Rank 1. Vert Frais

    Japanese Noodle Shop

White walls, communal tables, and a daytime-only pace that makes Long Island City feel like it has a neighborhood café worth leaving the subway for. Vert Frais is a Japanese noodle and rice bowl spot backed by the chef behind Kanoyama, which means the cooking is more assured than the casual room suggests. The shio ramen runs clean and lightly fatty, and the soufflé pancakes are the kind of tall, jiggly thing people photograph before they eat it in about four minutes.

  4. Rank 4. Joe’s Steam Rice Roll

    Cantonese Noodle Shop

Rice ground daily on-site in electric stone mills is the tell at this no-frills Flushing counter, a Cantonese cheong fun spot tucked into a minimall off Roosevelt Avenue. The noodle sheets come out nearly translucent, rolled around pork, shrimp, or egg to order. The New York Times gave it a Critic's Pick, which tracks: there are very few places in the city where the rice noodle itself is this clearly the point.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
