The 100 Best Places to Eat in Brooklyn

Sections

Tap another section to add it. All sections

The best places to eat in Brooklyn, according to the experts: Michelin Guide, The 50, and The New York Times have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Aska comes out on top.

More Less

The Four Horsemen and Oxomoco hold the next two places. The New York Times shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with Michelin Guide close behind.

Departments

  1. Black tablecloths, candlelight, and a deer skull resting on a bed of lichen: Fredrik Berselius runs a tasting menu restaurant in South Williamsburg that feels less like dinner and more like being guided through a dark forest by something polite but feral. The cooking is New Nordic in spirit, pulling from Northeastern seasonality, and it holds two Michelin stars and a spot on North America's 50 Best. Wear something dark; you'll blend right in.

  2. The natural wine list here won a James Beard Award, and the Michelin star belongs to the kitchen, which tells you this Williamsburg bar is doing two things at once and doing neither halfway. The room is famously small and the wait is famously brutal, but Nick Curtola's seasonal menu follows its own logic, landing somewhere between a great wine bar snack and something you'll think about for weeks. James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem is a co-owner, which explains the playlist.

  3. Rank 3. Oxomoco

    Mexican

Tacos share menu space with agua chile and tlayuda at this airy Greenpoint Mexican restaurant, which holds a Michelin star and carries itself like it doesn't need to mention it. The kitchen ranges across regional Mexico rather than settling into one lane, so the menu shifts around you a little each visit. The room is loud and packed in the way that usually signals something is going right.

  4. A Michelin-starred omakase counter tucked near Domino Park on a quiet Williamsburg block. The chef talks through the meal as it arrives, explaining which region the fish came from, why the rice is what it is, and how long he hunted for the aged soys, so the whole thing feels more like a conversation than a performance. The nigiri is the main event, and the rice gets refreshed throughout, a detail that separates the obsessives from the casual.

  5. The limestone facade on Broadway gives way to ash wood, mosaic tile, and a wide-open kitchen that runs the whole show. This is a French brasserie with a Michelin star, the kind of place where the duck arrives whole before someone carves it tableside. Williamsburg's dressed-up crowd fills the generously spaced tables, and nobody looks out of place in either a blazer or a good jacket.

  6. The unmarked door on Green Street gives nothing away, which is sort of the point. Inside, a converted warehouse with wood-beamed ceilings holds a tasting menu restaurant built around a single organizing idea: every dish is either fired or chilled, and you watch the open kitchen run both with near-monastic focus. Chefs serve their own food here, no front-of-house divide. The Nordic New American cooking is ingredient-first, the room is genuinely dramatic, and the clamshell amuse-bouche is as ridiculous as it sounds.

  7. The line out the door on South 2nd is the most honest review you'll find. This Williamsburg slice shop has a counter, a few standing ledges, and pizza makers working in plain sight from dough to oven. The crust is thin, crisp, and taken seriously. 50 Top Pizza ranked it the top slice shop in the country, and the New York Times put it on their short list too. Order, pay, wait for your name, eat standing up. That's the whole deal.

  9. The line down the block on weekends is a reliable feature, and so is the sign that says they've sold out early. Radio Bakery is a small Greenpoint spot where croissants get shaped like Danishes and filled with whatever's good that month, focaccia sandwiches come stuffed with smoked salmon and cream cheese, and the brown butter corn cake is the thing to grab for later. Frustrating in all the right ways.

  10. Rank 9. Restaurant Yuu

    Contemporary French

Service begins with the lights dropping and curtains parting to reveal the full kitchen brigade standing at attention, which sets the tone for what follows. This is a tasting menu restaurant in Greenpoint where the chef's classic French training and Japanese background meet in a warehouse-scale dining room. Shellfish and proteins carry the menu, and a duck and foie gras pastry feels like a find from a more extravagant era. It holds a Michelin star.

  11. Rank 9. Sofreh

    Persian

Nasim Alikhani spent decades as a home cook in the Iranian diaspora before opening this Persian restaurant in Park Slope at 58, which explains why the food feels like someone's mother finally decided to show the city what she'd been holding back. Whitewashed brick, marble bar, black wood beams. The kitchen is faithful to Persian tradition but loose enough to foam a yogurt or call a pomegranate-marinated rib-eye a kebab. A James Beard nominee for Best Chef New York State.

  12. Missy Robbins runs an open kitchen inside a former car body shop in East Williamsburg, which tells you something about the bones of the room before a single plate arrives. Lilia is the kind of Italian pasta restaurant where everything is handmade and the mafaldini with pink peppercorns has turned regulars into a kind of informal cult. The New York Times gave it three stars, and a James Beard semifinalist nod followed.

  13. Reservations at this tiny Crown Heights Cambodian restaurant evaporate fast enough that "arrive early and hope" is a legitimate strategy. Shared plates and a high-energy counter setup make it better with four than two. A James Beard semifinalist for Best New Restaurant, it pulls off the thing where every dish on the table disappears before anyone meant it to.

  14. Rank 13. Gage & Tollner

    Steakhouse

Vintage mirrors, cherry wood, and brass gas chandeliers give this Downtown Brooklyn steakhouse an amber glow that makes every Tuesday feel like an occasion. The kitchen draws on the legacy of Edna Lewis, who ran it in the late eighties, so fried chicken and crab cakes share the menu with dry-aged prime beef. Dessert gets taken seriously, which a baked Alaska deserves. It has a spot on the World's Best Steak Restaurants list.

  16. Rank 16. Place des Fêtes

    Spanish Wine Bar

The team behind Oxalis opened this Clinton Hill wine bar as a casual second act, and the kitchen takes it as seriously as the cellar. Both lean Spanish: natural wines from small producers, simple seafood, grilled toast, and vegetable plates that hold their own. The bar and open kitchen anchor a cozy room that fills up fast, so arrive early or embrace the wait with a glass of something zippy.

  17. Rank 17. Café Kestrel

    Unfussy European Bistro

A tiny Red Hook corner spot where the menu fits on one page and the fried halloumi, served warm over honey, made the New York Times list of top dishes. Café Kestrel runs pan-European with a French lean: terrines, duck confit, a seafood plate finished with gaufrettes. The room is casual enough for a Tuesday but pulled-together enough that you won't feel underdressed ordering dessert, which the staff will gently insist upon anyway.

  18. The brass footrest running the length of the bar sets the tone: this is a proper neighborhood tavern in Red Hook, the kind with exposed brick, floral wallpaper, and candles wedged between wine bottles on tight-packed tables. The menu is short and the cooking leans classic, which is a polite way of saying the dry-aged cheeseburger with cottage fries is not something you'll talk yourself out of. A James Beard Semifinalist for Outstanding Hospitality.

  19. Rank 17. Sailor

    French

The line wrapping around the Fort Greene corner is not a glitch; it's just how things work at April Bloomfield's neighborhood seafood bistro, where eggs with celery salt and a roast chicken somehow outshine the obvious Instagram moment. The skylit room is bright and unhurried, the menu turns with the seasons, and lunch earns its own following with a burger that regulars treat as a state secret.

  20. Rank 17. Theodora

    Mediterranean Seafood

Wood smoke hangs in the air the moment you walk into this Fort Greene seafood restaurant, which should tell you something about how the kitchen operates. Chef Tomer Blechman anchors the menu around dry-aged fish and open-fire cooking, pulling from a Mediterranean pantry that keeps things interesting without announcing itself. The bar draws a crowd that clearly has opinions about natural wine, and the pita alone justifies showing up early.

  21. Rank 21. arthur

    New American

The "Laundromat" sign from the old tenant is still up out front, which means half the neighborhood has walked past a very good French bistro without knowing it. Inside, brick walls and vintage furniture set a mood that feels broken-in rather than designed, and the menu leans on Northeast ingredients for a modern French run through small plates and proper mains. Greenpoint regulars who've found it tend not to share the address.

  22. Rank 21. Bonnie's

    Cantonese

Calvin Eng's Cantonese restaurant and bar sits on a nondescript east Williamsburg corner, close enough to the BQE that you'll feel the trucks. Inside, it reads like a retro Hong Kong diner, but the kitchen runs modern interpretations of regional Cantonese food, and the MSG Martini earned a spot on Esquire's national list. The Michelin Guide gives it a Bib Gourmand, and the James Beard Foundation named Eng an Emerging Chef nominee.

  24. Jackets are required, which should tell you everything about the register here. This fine dining landmark sits right under the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Manhattan skyline fills the windows the way a painting would if you couldn't afford the real thing. The prix fixe menu is formal and unhurried, the waitstaff operate with genuine poise, and couples have been proposing at these tables for decades.

  27. Rank 26. Wenwen

    Taiwanese

The tall, narrow wood-framed windows let you see the whole room before you walk in, which is a nice preview of a Taiwanese restaurant that doesn't hide anything. Eric Sze and partner Andy Chuang run a menu that moves between popcorn chicken dusted in a sweet-spicy blend and whole striped bass lacquered in black sugar and yuzu, and the beef noodle soup, built on a 16-hour oxtail broth, has a following of its own.

  30. Rank 26. Zoli

    Seafood

A seafood restaurant in Williamsburg run by a fisherman's son, which shows. The menu leans on familiar territory but keeps swerving: surf clam in aguachile, mussels that are genuinely plush, squid that's properly charred. Then dessert arrives and a Basque cheesecake shows up funked with taleggio. The New York Times gave it two stars and a spot on their Restaurant List, which for a room this unpretentious in Maujer St feels about right.

  31. Nick Curtola's trattoria across from sibling bar The Four Horsemen handles regional Italian with the kind of restraint that makes everything taste more intentional. Braised beef tendon shaved thin over acidic onions is the opening move, and it tells you exactly what kind of kitchen this is. Handmade pasta and rustic mains follow that same logic. The tiramisu is feather-light and enormous. Reservations go fast, but the bar at opening is a fine consolation.

  34. Rank 33. Yemenat

    Middle Eastern

The word "post-authentic" painted on the window tells you something about the ambition here before you sit down. This Yemeni restaurant in Bay Ridge fills a brick-and-dark-wood room with families, neighborhood lifers, and northward refugees all tearing into great rounds of rashoosh and heaping plates of lamb. The New York Times put it at number 31 on its 100 best list, and Michelin gave it a Bib Gourmand. Portions are sized for sharing whether you planned to or not.

  35. Rank 39. Balera

    Pizzeria

A disco ball spins over the dining room at this Graham Avenue pizzeria, where the thin-crust pies share the bill with house pasta and focaccia made in the open kitchen. The Italian wine list runs to two pages of sparkling alone, which tells you something about the ambitions here. The Calabrian soppressata and hot honey on the Diavola have a following. Michelin has it in the guide.

  36. Exposed brick, dim lighting, and vintage New York photography set a mood that a taxidermied dog in a birthday hat quietly undermines. Confidant is a sharing-plates restaurant in Brooklyn Heights with a menu that runs from scallop crudo and trout mousse to dry-aged meats and a prawn pot pie worth leaning across the table for. The Michelin Guide has it selected, and the food takes the whole thing more seriously than the decor lets on.

  37. Wood smoke hits you on Van Brunt Street before the warehouse comes into view, which is a useful heads-up to adjust your plans for the rest of the day. This Red Hook BBQ shop runs counter service out of a sprawling industrial space with communal tables, where the brisket has the smoke ring to back up the reputation. The Michelin Bib Gourmand is on record, and the banana pudding tends to disappear fast.

  38. The flour tortillas are made with lard and cooked to order, which tells you everything about what kind of place this is. Los Burritos Juárez is a compact burrito shop in Fort Greene doing the El Paso and Ciudad Juárez border style, a regional tradition that barely exists in New York. Slow-cooked guisados go inside, pinto beans tie it together, and breakfast burritos are available until they run out, which they do.

  39. Rank 39. Tanoreen

    Middle Eastern

Pickled vegetables and za'atar-dusted flatbread land on the table before you've even decided anything, which is how Bay Ridge's favorite Middle Eastern restaurant sets its tone. The portions at this warm, family-run spot are engineered for sharing, and the mansaf, braised lamb over fluffy rice in creamy yogurt, is the kind of dish that makes you regret coming alone. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

  40. Fake flowers cascade over the entrance and hang above the kitchen at this Palestinian restaurant on Atlantic Avenue, where the decor and the cooking share the same go-big instinct. The mezze platter is enormous by design, the saj bread comes hot from a domed oven by the door, and the rice dishes arrive in mounds built for sharing. It's a Michelin-selected room, and the crowd tends to arrive hungry and in groups.

  41. The tin pressed ceiling and flickering candles do a lot of the work before the food arrives. This Brooklyn Heights neighborhood tavern has the bones of an old bar and the kitchen instincts to match, running from duck poutine croquettes to braised rabbit without making either feel out of place. The kind of room where regulars settle in for the burger and stay through the blackout cake, and nobody seems to mind.

  42. Rank 44. L&B Spumoni Gardens

    Sicilian Pizzeria

The Sicilian square here comes sauce-on-top, which is either the detail that makes you understand everything about Brooklyn pizza or the one you'll spend a whole slice arguing about. L&B Spumoni Gardens is an old-school Gravesend pizzeria where the outdoor tables fill up on summer nights with people who clearly know to finish with the almond spumoni. The crunchy, charred corners have been the point since forever.

  43. The name means "apple" in Japanese, which is the first clue that this Greenpoint comfort-food spot isn't playing by anyone else's rules. The menu takes American and European classics and folds in Japanese technique until neither side is quite recognizable, in the most compelling way. A Hokkaido beef curry baked into a golden oval pie is the thing people talk about. Selected by the Michelin Guide, and a 2025 James Beard semifinalist.

  44. Rank 44. Llama Inn

  45. Rank 44. LORE

    American-infused Indian

A corner storefront at the base of a Park Slope apartment building, which sounds modest until you sit down and notice the cocktail list reads like something a poet ordered. Lore is a neighborhood restaurant doing American-inflected Indian cooking, the kind of place where the food is careful without being precious. The Michelin Guide gives it a Bib Gourmand, and the warm service makes the whole room feel like someone actually planned it that way.

  46. Rank 44. Miss Ada

    Middle Eastern

A backyard garden in Fort Greene that fills up fast enough to make you wonder if everyone in Brooklyn got the same text. Miss Ada is a Middle Eastern restaurant built around sharing: hummus crowned with lamb shawarma, charred kofta skewers, market salads, and whipped ricotta with honey that blurs the line between course and dessert. The kitchen is reportedly tiny, though nothing on the table suggests it. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, and walk-ins can try their luck at the bar.

  47. Rank 44. Olmo

    Mexico City

A cantina in Crown Heights where communal tables and light wood make the whole room feel like somebody's relaxed dinner party. The cooking pulls from Mexico City, snacky and nostalgic in the best way, ranging from chicharrón preparado to a carne asada topped with verdolaga greens and a smoky chipotle béarnaise that overshadows everything else on the plate. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand, which tracks.

  48. Rank 44. Roberta's

    Pizzeria

The red door on Moore Street opens into a loud, wood-fired pizza shop that somehow became the definitive argument for Bushwick's whole self-image. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, and the pies earn the pilgrimage: thin, blistered, unapologetically themselves. The room is industrial and a little ramshackle, the staff looks like they're in three different bands, and the wait can be long enough to reconsider your life choices. Order ahead and take a box home.

    Natural Wine Bar

  50. A former automotive welding shop in East Williamsburg now houses this multi-roaster coffee boutique, where the menu leans into distilled coffee, blue algae, and clarified matcha alongside a hand-brew selection from roasters around the world. The back of the space runs a small craft brewery called Niteglow, so the afternoon espresso can pivot to a draft pour. It reads like a coffee shop that got very ambitious and kept going.

  56. Rank 59. Agi’s Counter

    Eastern European

The walls are painted cupcake pink, and yes, that is a bowl of Hungarian chicken broth with dumplings on the menu next to the crepes. Named for the chef's grandmother, this Crown Heights diner runs on Eastern European comfort food done with real care. The kitchen has a particular way with bread. The bar landed on Punch's Best New Bartenders list, the restaurant holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, and the chef is a James Beard nominee.

  57. Rank 59. Bagel Pub

    NY-Style Bakery

Stainless steel baskets lined with egg everything and pumpernickel everything tell you all you need to know before you've even ordered. This Crown Heights bagel shop turns out chewy, substantial rounds that hold up to the ambitious sandwich menu, where chipotle-bacon cream cheese and asparagus on a breakfast sandwich feel less weird than they should. The weekend line goes out the door, which at a bagel shop is either a warning or a recommendation, depending on how much you've had to eat.

  58. The pissaladière, a warm round loaf piled with anchovies and caramelized onions, got a callout from the New York Times, which tells you this Prospect Heights all-day cafe is operating above its pay grade. Coffee and breakfast sandwiches up front give way to a skylit atrium with a small bar, handmade pasta, and refined small plates that shift toward a proper dinner by evening. It reads casual; the cooking quietly disagrees.

  59. Rank 59. Ciao, Gloria

    Contemporary Italian Coffee Shop

The pastry case alone could hold up a line: Italian-style cakes, seasonal danishes, oatmeal cream pies, all housemade. This contemporary Italian coffee shop sits at street level of a Frank Gehry condo on Vanderbilt, which sounds like a setup for a joke, but the place is genuinely warm and busy for good reason. Sweetleaf coffee from Queens, a full kitchen running health-ish and comfort food, and staff who seem to actually mean it when they want you to feel at home.

A skylight, whitewashed brick, and a marble counter with sightlines into a kitchen barely big enough to turn around in, and yet the food coming out of it reads much larger than the room. Hart's is a snug Mediterranean restaurant tucked behind the Franklin Avenue subway stairs, serving the kind of cooking that makes you wonder why anyone needs a big kitchen. The slate-blue façade is easy to miss, which is part of the charm.

  61. The gleaming open kitchen is the first thing you see, all stainless steel and quiet drama, before the eight-course French tasting menu even begins. It started as an underground dinner party circuit, which explains the intimate feel that downtown Brooklyn's fancier arrivals don't quite manage. The team walks you through wine pairings course by course. An AAA Four Diamond restaurant, and the room takes that seriously without making you feel graded.

  63. The mission here is explicit: no rainbow bagels, no blueberry bagels, no what Peter Shelsky calls the "shiksa bagel." This Park Slope bagel shop makes small, crust-forward rounds in the New York tradition, though the Sichuan peppercorn bagel, a nod to the long Jewish-Chinese-food alliance, bends the rules just enough. The New York Times named it among the city's best, which is the only endorsement that really matters in this particular argument.

  65. Yafa is a Yemeni coffee shop on 4th Avenue in Sunset Park, brick walls hung with art and books celebrating Arabic culture on one side and proper third-wave gear on the other. The menu roams past the usual coffee shop lane into slow-cooked lamb and za'atar fries, with a pistachio cappuccino with cardamom for anyone who still wants something to sip. A second location has opened in Downtown Brooklyn, but this is the flagship.

  66. The line out the door in Sunset Park is a reliable fixture regardless of weather. This Sichuan restaurant holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand and packs its two floors with backless stools and no-frills wooden tables, which keeps the focus on the food. The kitchen goes lighter on the chili oil than you'd expect, coaxing complex flavors rather than just heat. Staff with earpieces navigate the room efficiently and are happy to guide first-timers through the menu.

  68. Rank 73. Pierozek

    Eastern European

A small pierogi shop tucked into Greenpoint, the part of Brooklyn that still feels like it never left Warsaw. The menu does exactly what it promises, with stuffed dumplings running savory to sweet, plus borscht, golabki, and kielbasa that could carry a meal on its own. Bolesławiec pottery doubles as the serveware, which is either charming or showing off depending on your mood. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, and a shot of Polish liquor is basically required.

  71. Birds of a Feather is a Sichuan restaurant in Williamsburg from the couple behind Café China, and the owner designed the dining room herself, which explains why it feels like someone's taste instead of a mood board. The menu runs from numbing heat to sweet-and-sour, so you'll want a few friends and a willingness to over-order. It's on the Chinese Restaurant Awards' Elite 12 list for 2026.

  72. On weekends, an announcer calls reservation numbers over a booming speaker like high-stakes bingo, and the crowd outside barely fits through the door. Inside, this cavernous Brooklyn dim sum palace runs on steaming carts and trays shuttled through a gold-accented dining room. Eyes do most of the ordering. Weekdays are considerably calmer, which some people quietly prefer.

  73. Rank 77. Haenyeo

    Korean

A Korean restaurant in Park Slope where tteokbokki arrives topped with Oaxacan cheese and chorizo, which tells you everything about the kitchen's mood. The menu moves between savory vegetable pancakes, cod braised in sweet soy with daikon, and chilled soba noodles, then lands on beignets. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand, and the room fills with the kind of regulars who already know what they're ordering before they sit down.

  74. Smoked beef brisket on rye with mustard is the calling card at this Montreal Jewish deli in Boerum Hill, where the portions operate on a scale that suggests the kitchen has never heard the word "restraint." Poutine comes finished several ways, the latkes and knishes are not an afterthought, and a sidewalk takeout window handles overflow when the counter and communal tables fill up, which they do.

  75. Rank 77. Peter Luger

    Steakhouse

The cash-only policy has turned away more than a few first-timers who showed up unprepared, which is arguably part of the point. This old-school Brooklyn steakhouse runs on dry-aged Porterhouse, no-nonsense servers, and wood-paneled rooms full of people who've been coming for decades. The sides are simple, the schlag is non-negotiable, and the whole operation moves with the cheerful brusqueness of a place that has never once considered changing anything.

  76. Rank 77. Sawa

    Lebanese

Lines form outside before the doors open, which tells you something about this Middle Eastern restaurant in Park Slope. The menu is a deep dive into mezze and grilled meats, with house-made pita arriving hot enough to make the hummus and labneh situation feel urgent. The name means "together" in Arabic, and the room earns it: the energy runs warm and loud, the way a good dinner should.

  77. Carne asada griddled until caramelized and crisp under a snow of Chihuahua cheese is the move at this bright, modern Mexican restaurant in Prospect Heights. Light-flooded windows and a bar lined with stools give it a neighborhood feel, but the cooking leans inventive. The Michelin Guide picked it up with a Bib Gourmand, which tracks. Churros with acacia honey and chocolate atole sauce close things out on exactly the right note.

  81. Negroni Jell-O cubes with Castelvetrano olives floating inside them is pretty much the thesis statement for this quirky Brooklyn restaurant. The menu is built for sharing and runs on a kind of gleeful nostalgia gone sideways, muffuletta dim sum sitting comfortably next to garlic knot monkey bread. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, which tracks for a place this fun at this price.

  83. Rank 86. Chavela's

    Creative Mexican

The guacamole comes loaded with smoked trout and morita chile salsa, which tells you everything about where Chavela's is headed. This Crown Heights Mexican restaurant earns its Michelin Bib Gourmand behind a wrought-iron door and into a room of vivid tiles and a wall of ceramic butterflies. The cooking leans creative without abandoning the mole that traditionalists came for, and the whole place runs warmer and louder than its Franklin Avenue address might suggest.

  84. Brunch at this cozy Greenpoint restaurant draws a line of famished locals most weekends, and the pancakes have their own small mythology in the neighborhood. Inside, it's a French-Canadian operation with a clear affection for pork: pâtés, terrines, and charcuterie-forward plates dominate a menu that stays rich and unapologetic. Dinner is quieter and just as good. A Michelin Selected Restaurant.

Strands of tiny silver beads cover the front window, so Daphne's announces itself quietly before you're even through the door. Inside, it's a refined, contemporary Italian-American restaurant in Bed-Stuy with a menu short enough to read twice. House-made pasta, shareable plates, and a grilled pork chop that takes its time all earn a look. The kind of neighborhood spot that makes you wonder why you ever leave Brooklyn.

  86. Portion sizes here run generous enough that the name feels like a promise kept. Gordo's is a laid-back Bushwick cantina where the chef, a Mexico City native, turns familiar Mexican cooking into something that earns its Michelin Bib Gourmand. The room skews family-friendly, the menu covers tacos, chile relleno, and mole enchiladas, and nobody leaves hungry enough to be annoyed about anything.

  89. Rank 86. La Vara

    Spanish

The slow-roasted suckling pig leg that anchors the menu tells you this isn't your standard tapas crawl. La Vara is a cozy Spanish restaurant in Cobble Hill where the kitchen takes cocina casera, home cooking, as both its premise and its ambition. Alex Raij's food has a playful, quietly inventive quality; the room draws the kind of neighborhood regulars who eventually stop looking at the menu and just tell the server to do whatever.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
