  1. A sun-drenched sliver of a New American restaurant in Park Slope, Runner Up earns a Michelin Bib Gourmand by doing exactly what it sounds like it shouldn't: taking vegetables seriously without making you feel lectured. The menu swings between playful and precise, with produce driving dishes that also happen to involve trout rillette or daikon standing in for tortellini. Bread and desserts come courtesy of the sibling spot next door, which is either cheating or genius.

  2. Matzoh ball ramen is the menu's thesis statement, and it holds up. This creative South Williamsburg restaurant earns a Michelin Bib Gourmand by stitching Ashkenazi Jewish and Japanese cooking together without the seams showing, toro tartare landing on sake kasu challah, Wagyu pastrami pressed into milk bread. The room is small and the vibe is neighborhood-casual, which makes it easier to order the chocolate challah bread pudding without feeling self-conscious about it.

  3. Rank 86. Sobre Masa

    Mexican

Heirloom corn gets the full treatment here: nixtamalized, milled, and pressed into house-made tortillas that anchor everything on the menu. This Bushwick taqueria and tortilla shop earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand for a tight menu that runs from carnitas to chicken liver tostadas with candied kumquats, which tells you exactly what kind of ambition is hiding behind the counter. The salsas alone could cause a scene.

  4. Rank 86. Speedy Romeo

    Wood-Fired Pizzeria

A wood-fired pizza shop in a converted auto garage in Clinton Hill, with kitschy décor that somehow pulls it off. The team spent years in the Jean-Georges universe, and that background shows up in combinations you wouldn't expect a pizza joint to attempt, like the St. Louis, which lays Midwestern Provel cheese over pickled peppers and meat on a proper crust. The Michelin Guide gives it a Bib Gourmand, and the room fills up fast on weeknights.

  6. A menu item called "What the Hell" fried rice comes with twelve chili symbols and delivers on that promise, but this Thai restaurant in Cobble Hill is running a more interesting game than heat. The chef takes familiar flavors and bends them, with a soupless khao soi and a light-bodied green curry paired with grilled chicken and purple rice berry doing the quiet convincing. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, and the kind of neighborhood spot that's easy to walk past once.

  7. Rank 86. Uzuki

    Japanese Noodle Shop

The chef makes the ceramic bowls himself, which tells you a lot about the pace of a meal here. This Greenpoint soba shop occupies a warehouse with factory windows and skylights, and the hand-cut buckwheat noodles, served cold or hot with dashi, are the point. Pricing runs steep for a noodle lunch, but the room is genuinely industrial and the gluten-free menu surprisingly complete. Soba-making classes also run here, if you'd like homework.

  8. Rank 86. Wheated

    Pizzeria

The New Haven-style pies here are cooked to a serious crunch, with dough pressed thinner than the Connecticut purists would sanction and a tangy, oregano-heavy tomato sauce that makes a decent argument for staying in Brooklyn. Wheated is a Ditmas Park pizzeria with a full bar that also does bagels, so the menu has range. The New York Times put it on their best pizza in New York list, which is the kind of thing that fills a neighborhood spot fast.

  9. Rank 86. Win Son

    Modern Taiwanese

The facade is done up like a corner bodega, but step inside and it's all blonde wood, exposed brick, and a little bar where solo diners settle in without apology. Win Son is a bright, casual Taiwanese spot in Williamsburg that holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, and the menu takes Taiwan's culinary landscape somewhere fresher than the usual shorthand suggests. Scallion pancakes show up alongside so many dishes that ordering them as a starter is quietly redundant.

  10. Ali's is a counter-service roti shop on Fulton where the menu runs from conch to liver to curry goat, all folded into dhalpuri, the soft split-pea flatbread that does the heavy lifting. It closed for a renovation with almost no warning, which rattled the regulars, and it came back with picture windows full of pepper sauce and bush tea. Halal, cash only, so stop at the ATM before you start deliberating over kingfish.

  11. The pressed-tin ceiling and apothecary cases are original to the old drugstore this soda fountain has been around forever inside. It's the kind of Carroll Gardens spot that puts potato chips on a sundae and makes it feel obvious in retrospect. Ice cream floats run on housemade soda, and the sundaes come loaded with toppings, most made in-house. Order at the counter and find a stool; nobody here is in a hurry.

  12. Rank 111. Kru

    Thai

Exposed brick and poured cement set a sleek, airy backdrop for traditional Thai cooking that has been quietly reworked for the contemporary table. The restaurant in Williamsburg came out swinging as a James Beard Best New Restaurant Semifinalist, and the menu earns the attention, moving through braises, curries, and fermented heat with real conviction. Dress sharp, expect to spend.

The rooftop of the Hoxton Hotel in Williamsburg, with the Manhattan skyline doing its thing at sunset, is a solid place to eat skewers. This is Michael Solomonov's skewer house, and the format is pleasantly fixed: a spread of salatim to start, then meat and vegetable skewers over the coals, then soft-serve. Reservations are famously hard to land, which tells you something about how the room fills on a Tuesday.

  18. Rank 120. F&F Pizzeria

    Pizzeria

The slices here are slender, which is a statement in a borough where bigger is considered better. F&F is a slice shop in Carroll Gardens running a quiet argument for restraint: a careful sauce-to-cheese ratio, toppings used sparingly and only when they add something. The New York Times put it on their short list of the city's best pizza places, and Grub Street agreed. Come hungry but not starving, because the line moves at its own pace.

  19. Rank 120. Insa

    Korean Barbecue

  20. Rank 124. Barano

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

    The awards

  21. A backyard in Park Slope and a margherita built on proper ingredients make Brooklyn DOP an easy neighborhood slice shop to fall into. The dough is treated with care, the format stays classic New York, and the beverage list is calibrated accordingly. The orange olive oil cake quietly outperforms every other decision you'll make that afternoon. It landed at number six on the 50 Top Pizza Slice USA list, which checks out.

  28. Rank 124. Pizza Secret

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

A Neapolitan pizzeria a short walk from Barclays Center, Pizza Secret lands at number 15 on 50 Top Pizza USA, which is not the kind of thing a slice shop does quietly. The dough is well-leavened and light, the kind that doesn't sit heavy, and the fried appetizers are worth ordering before the pie arrives. The room is renovated and family-friendly without feeling like a chain, and the service knows when to disappear.

  29. The open kitchen pulls focus the moment you walk into this Carroll Gardens bistro, with its exposed brick, dark blue walls, and brown leather booths. The menu runs contemporary New American with European and South American threads woven through, so expect clean technique alongside the occasional curveball. It reads equally as a date spot or a low-key dinner with friends, which is either versatile or noncommittal, depending on your mood.

  30. The penny-tiled floor and wood bar hit you before you even look at the menu, and the garden out back feels like someone transplanted a corner of Umbria to Williamsburg. This is a proper Italian restaurant, the sit-down-and-stay kind, with a seasonal menu that leans into shared plates and house-made pasta. The crowd tends to linger, which tells you something about the pacing. Wildflowers on the tables, olive walls, no fuss.

    The awards

  31. Roman trattoria cooking in a room that manages to feel elegant without making you feel underdressed. Antica Pesa is the Brooklyn outpost of a Rome institution, and it takes the classics seriously enough to go well past the obvious ones. The wine list is long, the hospitality is warm in that old-country way, and a spot on the 50 Top Italy list for the world's best Italian restaurants suggests the room is doing something right across the river.

  32. The plates here are handmade by a Venezuelan artisan, which tells you something about how seriously this Brooklyn restaurant takes the full picture. Chef Isbelis Diaz and her son run a warm, colorful room built around Venezuelan cooking, the kind where the staff steers you through the menu like they mean it. The short rib braised for two days in burnt sugarcane is the dish people talk about on the way home.

  33. Whole pies only, no exceptions, which has annoyed exactly the kind of person who deserves to be annoyed. Chrissy's is a slice-free NY-style pizza shop in Greenpoint where the chef spent pandemic years perfecting thin-crust pies in his apartment before graduating through pop-ups to a permanent counter. The New York Times put it on their best pizza in New York list, which is not a short list to land on.

  34. Rank 133. Enso

    Sushi

A sleek omakase counter in Williamsburg where the chef runs an edomae-style sushi progression that moves from composed small bites through a focused nigiri course. The fish comes from specific Japanese sources, cured and aged with enough care that the sourcing actually shows on the palate. À la carte is available at the bar and garden if you're not committing to the full ride, which is at least a refreshingly honest policy.

  35. The copper bar wrapped in cherry wood is what catches you first, then the wall of bottles behind it. Entre Nous is a French wine bar in Clinton Hill doing apéro culture without the affectation: natural wine, small plates cooked with more care than the relaxed room suggests, and an atmosphere that works equally well for one glass alone or a long night with friends.

  36. Rank 133. Fausto

    Italian

An open hearth warms the dimly lit room at this upscale Italian restaurant on Flatbush, where the sommelier-restaurateur's wine instincts shape the whole experience as much as the kitchen does. The pasta earns its reputation, and the menu leans into Southern Italian regional cooking without making a fuss about it. Bring a date or a small group; the room was built for exactly that kind of unhurried evening.

  37. Rattan furniture and a quietly tropical room a short walk from Fort Greene Park set the mood at this neighborhood Thai restaurant. The menu pulls from both northern and southern Thailand, which keeps things more interesting than the usual single-region rundown. The chive pancakes arrive crispy and golden, the fried rice gets a chili-lime jolt, and the 24-hour braised short ribs have a caramelized crust that does most of the convincing.

  38. Rank 133. Hungry Thirsty

    Southern Thai

The yellow facade on Smith Street belongs to a Southern Thai restaurant that already has people lining up, much as its predecessor in the same space once did. Inside, orange walls and a blue-and-green bar signal that subtlety was never the plan. The kitchen leans into spice and bold regional flavors, with curries, stir-fries, and a fried branzino in fish sauce that tends to stop conversation at the table.

    The awards

  39. Rank 133. Madre

    Mediterranean

The carved doors belong to the hotel next door; Madre has its own entrance, and its own agenda. This multi-level Mediterranean restaurant sits at the base of the Franklin Guest House, dressed in industrial bones but cooking with considerably more ambition. The menu drifts between the Mediterranean and Latin America without making a fuss about it, which is a style of self-confidence that suits the room.

    The awards

  40. Rank 133. Mango Bay

    Caribbean

Floral wallpaper meets leather booths inside this Fort Greene brownstone, which sets the tone for the cooking: Afro-Caribbean tradition with a city sensibility. It's a sit-down dinner spot, fun but not casual, the kind of room that makes you want to linger over braised oxtail with a group of friends. The Michelin Guide has had its eye on it, and the crowd that fills the booths on a weekend night suggests they're not the only ones paying attention.

  41. Rank 133. Meadowsweet

    Mediterranean

Glass facade, mosaic-tiled floors, and a view of the Williamsburg Bridge's ironwork overhead: Meadowsweet is a Mediterranean restaurant in Williamsburg that looks like it was designed by someone who actually thinks about rooms. The menu runs from vegetables to pasta to duck, cooked with the kind of care that keeps locals filling the place on a Tuesday. Friendly service and prices that won't require a moment of quiet reflection on the walk home.

    The awards

  42. Rank 133. Mesiba

    Levantine

The name means "party" in Hebrew, and the Levantine restaurant at the base of the Moxy Williamsburg takes that seriously, with a sleek, buzzy room that nods to Tel Aviv's Bauhaus architecture. The menu moves from baba ganoush and falafel through whole striped bass and dumplings filled with charred onion ricotta, the kind of spread that makes ordering light feel like a personal failure. The Basque cheesecake has become the unofficial closing argument.

    The awards

  43. Rank 133. Ops

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

Sourdough Neapolitan pizza in a cozy Bushwick spot where the lighting is dim enough to feel intentional and the wine list is longer than the beer list, which tells you something about the room. The crust is light and genuinely digestible, as opposed to the kind that sits with you on the subway home. Ranked in the 50 Top Pizza USA, if that's the sort thing you track. The veranda is lovely until it isn't.

  44. Rank 133. Risbo

    Parisian French

The open-air rotisserie spinning in the front window is the tell: this is an all-day cafe built around Parisian-style spit-roasting, which in Flatbush means roasted chicken marinated for three days alongside bowls, platters, and seasonal grains. The whitewashed walls, cement floors, and a garden patio give it that particular Brooklyn-industrial ease. A good stop before or after Prospect Park, which is right there.

  45. The name nods to the two stones used to grind grain, and the flour-sack-shaped concrete blocks lining the walls suggest nobody here is being subtle about the theme. This Brooklyn bakery-restaurant splits its menu between sandwiches and salads, with the bread doing most of the talking. A Per Se alum runs the bakery side, which shows. Save room for dessert, then buy something extra for the walk home.

  46. Squeezed into a narrow Clinton Street storefront, Saint Julivert is a coastal wine bar where seafood does most of the talking and the small-producer wine list does the listening. The kitchen runs on a coastal imagination that drifts from tempura squash to Ibérico pork without losing the thread. Cobble Hill regulars who know to book early fill the room most nights. The Michelin Guide has it on their list.

  47. The signature pancake, a single skillet-sized round finished with hazelnut-maple praline and brown butter, is reason enough to plan a Saturday night around getting here Sunday morning. This all-day Williamsburg spot runs two floors with very different personalities: a rustic bar downstairs and a palm-dotted, whitewashed dining room above. Everything is baked in-house, and the sourdough with beer butter makes a strong case for arriving hungry before brunch even starts.

  48. Rank 133. Tong

    Thai

The first question your server asks is how you feel about heat, and you should answer carefully. This sleek Bushwick Thai restaurant occupies a concrete-and-metal warehouse space dressed up with gold accents, where the menu of small sharing plates builds around chilies that show up in every corner. The khao soi has its regulars, and the crispy rice with fermented pork sausage is the kind of thing people order twice.

  49. Rank 133. Vato

    Mexican

The flour tortillas are made in-house, and watching them come together at the counter is half the reason to show up early. This is a daytime tortilleria and counter-order burrito spot in Park Slope, from the team behind Corima. The tortillas are precise and pliable in a way that makes the whole thing feel different. Cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting and sea salt finish the job if you're still hungry, which you probably aren't.

  50. Rank 154. Falansai

    Mexican

The chef at this Brooklyn Vietnamese spot trained at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, and it shows, though not in a pretentious farm-to-table way. Falansai is a tasting-menu restaurant where seasonal thinking meets recipes passed down from Saigon, the two pulling in different directions in ways that tend to be interesting. The New York Times gave it two stars and a Critic's Pick in 2026.

  59. You order at the door, grab a table, and the pizza shows up without ceremony, which is exactly the point at this Greenpoint slice shop. The dough is soft and light in the way Neapolitan purists get worked up about, and the toppings stay out of each other's way. The bruschetta with honey and ricotta is a small, sweet detour worth taking. Ranked 32nd on 50 Top Pizza USA, Salsa keeps things casual enough that nobody feels underdressed.

    Pizzeria

Cash only, no reservations, and a line down Henry Street most nights: Lucali has been a Carroll Gardens institution long enough that the wait has become part of the lore. It's a small, candle-lit pizza shop serving large pies and calzones, nothing more. The dough is soft and thin in the New York tradition, and the room is the kind of quietly charming that makes two hours feel reasonable.

  66. Tables on a patio steps off the Brighton Beach boardwalk, with the Atlantic doing its thing just beyond. This sprawling Russian restaurant is modeled on the festive seaside dining culture of Odessa, which means the menu runs from smoked fish and shish kebab to foie gras, and the room is never quiet about it. The crowd brings its own occasion. The gratuity situation is explained on the bill, which is the kind of transparency you appreciate after the fact.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
