The best restaurants in Brooklyn, according to the experts: Michelin Guide, The 50, and The New York Times have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Aska comes out on top.

Oxomoco and Francie hold the next two places. Michelin Guide shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with The New York Times next.

  1. Black tablecloths, candlelight, and a deer skull resting on a bed of lichen: Fredrik Berselius runs a tasting menu restaurant in South Williamsburg that feels less like dinner and more like being guided through a dark forest by something polite but feral. The cooking is New Nordic in spirit, pulling from Northeastern seasonality, and it holds two Michelin stars and a spot on North America's 50 Best. Wear something dark; you'll blend right in.

  2. Tacos share menu space with agua chile and tlayuda at this airy Greenpoint Mexican restaurant, which holds a Michelin star and carries itself like it doesn't need to mention it. The kitchen ranges across regional Mexico rather than settling into one lane, so the menu shifts around you a little each visit. The room is loud and packed in the way that usually signals something is going right.

  3. The limestone facade on Broadway gives way to ash wood, mosaic tile, and a wide-open kitchen that runs the whole show. This is a French brasserie with a Michelin star, the kind of place where the duck arrives whole before someone carves it tableside. Williamsburg's dressed-up crowd fills the generously spaced tables, and nobody looks out of place in either a blazer or a good jacket.

  4. The unmarked door on Green Street gives nothing away, which is sort of the point. Inside, a converted warehouse with wood-beamed ceilings holds a tasting menu restaurant built around a single organizing idea: every dish is either fired or chilled, and you watch the open kitchen run both with near-monastic focus. Chefs serve their own food here, no front-of-house divide. The Nordic New American cooking is ingredient-first, the room is genuinely dramatic, and the clamshell amuse-bouche is as ridiculous as it sounds.

  5. Rank 5. Restaurant Yuu

    Contemporary French

Service begins with the lights dropping and curtains parting to reveal the full kitchen brigade standing at attention, which sets the tone for what follows. This is a tasting menu restaurant in Greenpoint where the chef's classic French training and Japanese background meet in a warehouse-scale dining room. Shellfish and proteins carry the menu, and a duck and foie gras pastry feels like a find from a more extravagant era. It holds a Michelin star.

  6. Rank 5. Sofreh

    Persian

Nasim Alikhani spent decades as a home cook in the Iranian diaspora before opening this Persian restaurant in Park Slope at 58, which explains why the food feels like someone's mother finally decided to show the city what she'd been holding back. Whitewashed brick, marble bar, black wood beams. The kitchen is faithful to Persian tradition but loose enough to foam a yogurt or call a pomegranate-marinated rib-eye a kebab. A James Beard nominee for Best Chef New York State.

  7. Missy Robbins runs an open kitchen inside a former car body shop in East Williamsburg, which tells you something about the bones of the room before a single plate arrives. Lilia is the kind of Italian pasta restaurant where everything is handmade and the mafaldini with pink peppercorns has turned regulars into a kind of informal cult. The New York Times gave it three stars, and a James Beard semifinalist nod followed.

  8. Reservations at this tiny Crown Heights Cambodian restaurant evaporate fast enough that "arrive early and hope" is a legitimate strategy. Shared plates and a high-energy counter setup make it better with four than two. A James Beard semifinalist for Best New Restaurant, it pulls off the thing where every dish on the table disappears before anyone meant it to.

  9. The brass footrest running the length of the bar sets the tone: this is a proper neighborhood tavern in Red Hook, the kind with exposed brick, floral wallpaper, and candles wedged between wine bottles on tight-packed tables. The menu is short and the cooking leans classic, which is a polite way of saying the dry-aged cheeseburger with cottage fries is not something you'll talk yourself out of. A James Beard Semifinalist for Outstanding Hospitality.

  10. Rank 9. Sailor

    French

The line wrapping around the Fort Greene corner is not a glitch; it's just how things work at April Bloomfield's neighborhood seafood bistro, where eggs with celery salt and a roast chicken somehow outshine the obvious Instagram moment. The skylit room is bright and unhurried, the menu turns with the seasons, and lunch earns its own following with a burger that regulars treat as a state secret.

  11. Rank 11. arthur

    New American

The "Laundromat" sign from the old tenant is still up out front, which means half the neighborhood has walked past a very good French bistro without knowing it. Inside, brick walls and vintage furniture set a mood that feels broken-in rather than designed, and the menu leans on Northeast ingredients for a modern French run through small plates and proper mains. Greenpoint regulars who've found it tend not to share the address.

  12. Rank 11. Bonnie's

    Cantonese

Calvin Eng's Cantonese restaurant and bar sits on a nondescript east Williamsburg corner, close enough to the BQE that you'll feel the trucks. Inside, it reads like a retro Hong Kong diner, but the kitchen runs modern interpretations of regional Cantonese food, and the MSG Martini earned a spot on Esquire's national list. The Michelin Guide gives it a Bib Gourmand, and the James Beard Foundation named Eng an Emerging Chef nominee.

  13. Jackets are required, which should tell you everything about the register here. This fine dining landmark sits right under the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Manhattan skyline fills the windows the way a painting would if you couldn't afford the real thing. The prix fixe menu is formal and unhurried, the waitstaff operate with genuine poise, and couples have been proposing at these tables for decades.

  15. Rank 15. Wenwen

    Taiwanese

The tall, narrow wood-framed windows let you see the whole room before you walk in, which is a nice preview of a Taiwanese restaurant that doesn't hide anything. Eric Sze and partner Andy Chuang run a menu that moves between popcorn chicken dusted in a sweet-spicy blend and whole striped bass lacquered in black sugar and yuzu, and the beef noodle soup, built on a 16-hour oxtail broth, has a following of its own.

  18. Nick Curtola's trattoria across from sibling bar The Four Horsemen handles regional Italian with the kind of restraint that makes everything taste more intentional. Braised beef tendon shaved thin over acidic onions is the opening move, and it tells you exactly what kind of kitchen this is. Handmade pasta and rustic mains follow that same logic. The tiramisu is feather-light and enormous. Reservations go fast, but the bar at opening is a fine consolation.

  20. Rank 20. Yemenat

    Middle Eastern

The word "post-authentic" painted on the window tells you something about the ambition here before you sit down. This Yemeni restaurant in Bay Ridge fills a brick-and-dark-wood room with families, neighborhood lifers, and northward refugees all tearing into great rounds of rashoosh and heaping plates of lamb. The New York Times put it at number 31 on its 100 best list, and Michelin gave it a Bib Gourmand. Portions are sized for sharing whether you planned to or not.

  21. Exposed brick, dim lighting, and vintage New York photography set a mood that a taxidermied dog in a birthday hat quietly undermines. Confidant is a sharing-plates restaurant in Brooklyn Heights with a menu that runs from scallop crudo and trout mousse to dry-aged meats and a prawn pot pie worth leaning across the table for. The Michelin Guide has it selected, and the food takes the whole thing more seriously than the decor lets on.

  22. The flour tortillas are made with lard and cooked to order, which tells you everything about what kind of place this is. Los Burritos Juárez is a compact burrito shop in Fort Greene doing the El Paso and Ciudad Juárez border style, a regional tradition that barely exists in New York. Slow-cooked guisados go inside, pinto beans tie it together, and breakfast burritos are available until they run out, which they do.

  23. Rank 25. Tanoreen

    Middle Eastern

Pickled vegetables and za'atar-dusted flatbread land on the table before you've even decided anything, which is how Bay Ridge's favorite Middle Eastern restaurant sets its tone. The portions at this warm, family-run spot are engineered for sharing, and the mansaf, braised lamb over fluffy rice in creamy yogurt, is the kind of dish that makes you regret coming alone. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

  24. Fake flowers cascade over the entrance and hang above the kitchen at this Palestinian restaurant on Atlantic Avenue, where the decor and the cooking share the same go-big instinct. The mezze platter is enormous by design, the saj bread comes hot from a domed oven by the door, and the rice dishes arrive in mounds built for sharing. It's a Michelin-selected room, and the crowd tends to arrive hungry and in groups.

  25. The tin pressed ceiling and flickering candles do a lot of the work before the food arrives. This Brooklyn Heights neighborhood tavern has the bones of an old bar and the kitchen instincts to match, running from duck poutine croquettes to braised rabbit without making either feel out of place. The kind of room where regulars settle in for the burger and stay through the blackout cake, and nobody seems to mind.

  26. The name means "apple" in Japanese, which is the first clue that this Greenpoint comfort-food spot isn't playing by anyone else's rules. The menu takes American and European classics and folds in Japanese technique until neither side is quite recognizable, in the most compelling way. A Hokkaido beef curry baked into a golden oval pie is the thing people talk about. Selected by the Michelin Guide, and a 2025 James Beard semifinalist.

  27. Rank 28. Llama Inn

    Peruvian

  28. Rank 28. LORE

    American-infused Indian

A corner storefront at the base of a Park Slope apartment building, which sounds modest until you sit down and notice the cocktail list reads like something a poet ordered. Lore is a neighborhood restaurant doing American-inflected Indian cooking, the kind of place where the food is careful without being precious. The Michelin Guide gives it a Bib Gourmand, and the warm service makes the whole room feel like someone actually planned it that way.

  29. Rank 28. Miss Ada

    Middle Eastern

A backyard garden in Fort Greene that fills up fast enough to make you wonder if everyone in Brooklyn got the same text. Miss Ada is a Middle Eastern restaurant built around sharing: hummus crowned with lamb shawarma, charred kofta skewers, market salads, and whipped ricotta with honey that blurs the line between course and dessert. The kitchen is reportedly tiny, though nothing on the table suggests it. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, and walk-ins can try their luck at the bar.

  30. Rank 28. Olmo

    Mexico City

A cantina in Crown Heights where communal tables and light wood make the whole room feel like somebody's relaxed dinner party. The cooking pulls from Mexico City, snacky and nostalgic in the best way, ranging from chicharrón preparado to a carne asada topped with verdolaga greens and a smoky chipotle béarnaise that overshadows everything else on the plate. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand, which tracks.

  32. Rank 36. Agi’s Counter

    Eastern European

The walls are painted cupcake pink, and yes, that is a bowl of Hungarian chicken broth with dumplings on the menu next to the crepes. Named for the chef's grandmother, this Crown Heights diner runs on Eastern European comfort food done with real care. The kitchen has a particular way with bread. The bar landed on Punch's Best New Bartenders list, the restaurant holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, and the chef is a James Beard nominee.

  33. Rank 36. Hart's

    Mediterranean

A skylight, whitewashed brick, and a marble counter with sightlines into a kitchen barely big enough to turn around in, and yet the food coming out of it reads much larger than the room. Hart's is a snug Mediterranean restaurant tucked behind the Franklin Avenue subway stairs, serving the kind of cooking that makes you wonder why anyone needs a big kitchen. The slate-blue façade is easy to miss, which is part of the charm.

  34. The gleaming open kitchen is the first thing you see, all stainless steel and quiet drama, before the eight-course French tasting menu even begins. It started as an underground dinner party circuit, which explains the intimate feel that downtown Brooklyn's fancier arrivals don't quite manage. The team walks you through wine pairings course by course. An AAA Four Diamond restaurant, and the room takes that seriously without making you feel graded.

  36. The line out the door in Sunset Park is a reliable fixture regardless of weather. This Sichuan restaurant holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand and packs its two floors with backless stools and no-frills wooden tables, which keeps the focus on the food. The kitchen goes lighter on the chili oil than you'd expect, coaxing complex flavors rather than just heat. 38. Rank 42. Pierozek

    Eastern European

A small pierogi shop tucked into Greenpoint, the part of Brooklyn that still feels like it never left Warsaw. The menu does exactly what it promises, with stuffed dumplings running savory to sweet, plus borscht, golabki, and kielbasa that could carry a meal on its own. Bolesławiec pottery doubles as the serveware, which is either charming or showing off depending on your mood. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, and a shot of Polish liquor is basically required.

  39. Birds of a Feather is a Sichuan restaurant in Williamsburg from the couple behind Café China, and the owner designed the dining room herself, which explains why it feels like someone's taste instead of a mood board. The menu moves between savory vegetable pancakes, cod braised in sweet soy with daikon, and chilled soba noodles, then lands on beignets. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand, and the room fills with the kind of regulars who already know what they're ordering before they sit down.

  41. Smoked beef brisket on rye with mustard is the calling card at this Montreal Jewish deli in Boerum Hill, where the portions operate on a scale that suggests the kitchen has never heard the word "restraint." Poutine comes finished several ways, the latkes and knishes are not an afterthought, and a sidewalk takeout window handles overflow when the counter and communal tables fill up, which they do.

  42. Rank 46. Sawa

    Lebanese

Lines form outside before the doors open, which tells you something about this Middle Eastern restaurant in Park Slope. The menu is a deep dive into mezze and grilled meats, with house-made pita arriving hot enough to make the hummus and labneh situation feel urgent. The name means "together" in Arabic, and the room earns it: the energy runs warm and loud, the way a good dinner should.

  43. Carne asada griddled until caramelized and crisp under a snow of Chihuahua cheese is the move at this bright, modern Mexican restaurant in Prospect Heights. Light-flooded windows and a bar lined with stools give it a neighborhood feel, but the cooking leans inventive. The Michelin Guide picked it up with a Bib Gourmand, which tracks. Churros with acacia honey and chocolate atole sauce close things out on exactly the right note.

The guacamole comes loaded with smoked trout and morita chile salsa, which tells you everything about where Chavela's is headed. This Crown Heights Mexican restaurant earns its Michelin Bib Gourmand behind a wrought-iron door and into a room of vivid tiles and a wall of ceramic butterflies. 47. Brunch at this cozy Greenpoint restaurant draws a line of famished locals most weekends, and the pancakes have their own small mythology in the neighborhood. Inside, it's a French-Canadian operation with a clear affection for pork: pâtés, terrines, and charcuterie-forward plates dominate a menu that stays rich and unapologetic. 49. Portion sizes here run generous enough that the name feels like a promise kept. Gordo's is a laid-back Bushwick cantina where the chef, a Mexico City native, turns familiar Mexican cooking into something that earns its Michelin Bib Gourmand. The room skews family-friendly, the menu covers tacos, chile relleno, and mole enchiladas, and nobody leaves hungry enough to be annoyed about anything.

  50. Rank 50. La Vara

    Spanish

The slow-roasted suckling pig leg that anchors the menu tells you this isn't your standard tapas crawl. La Vara is a cozy Spanish restaurant in Cobble Hill where the kitchen takes cocina casera, home cooking, as both its premise and its ambition. Alex Raij's food has a playful, quietly inventive quality; the room draws the kind of neighborhood regulars who eventually stop looking at the menu and just tell the server to do whatever.

  52. A sun-drenched sliver of a New American restaurant in Park Slope, Runner Up earns a Michelin Bib Gourmand by doing exactly what it sounds like it shouldn't: taking vegetables seriously without making you feel lectured. The menu swings between playful and precise, with produce driving dishes that also happen to involve trout rillette or daikon standing in for tortellini. Bread and desserts come courtesy of the sibling spot next door, which is either cheating or genius.

  53. Matzoh ball ramen is the menu's thesis statement, and it holds up. This creative South Williamsburg restaurant earns a Michelin Bib Gourmand by stitching Ashkenazi Jewish and Japanese cooking together without the seams showing, toro tartare landing on sake kasu challah, Wagyu pastrami pressed into milk bread. The room is small and the vibe is neighborhood-casual, which makes it easier to order the chocolate challah bread pudding without feeling self-conscious about it.

Win Son is a bright, casual Taiwanese spot in Williamsburg that holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, and the menu takes Taiwan's culinary landscape somewhere fresher than the usual shorthand suggests. Scallion pancakes show up alongside so many dishes that ordering them as a starter is quietly redundant.

  58. Ali's is a counter-service roti shop on Fulton where the menu runs from conch to liver to curry goat, all folded into dhalpuri, the soft split-pea flatbread that does the heavy lifting. It closed for a renovation with almost no warning, which rattled the regulars, and it came back with picture windows full of pepper sauce and bush tea. Halal, cash only, so stop at the ATM before you start deliberating over kingfish.

    Thai

Exposed brick and poured cement set a sleek, airy backdrop for traditional Thai cooking that has been quietly reworked for the contemporary table. The restaurant in Williamsburg came out swinging as a James Beard Best New Restaurant Semifinalist, and the menu earns the attention, moving through braises, curries, and fermented heat with real conviction. Dress sharp, expect to spend.

The rooftop of the Hoxton Hotel in Williamsburg, with the Manhattan skyline doing its thing at sunset, is a solid place to eat skewers. This is Michael Solomonov's skewer house, and the format is pleasantly fixed: a spread of salatim to start, then meat and vegetable skewers over the coals, then soft-serve. Reservations are famously hard to land, which tells you something about how the room fills on a Tuesday.

  70. The open kitchen pulls focus the moment you walk into this Carroll Gardens bistro, with its exposed brick, dark blue walls, and brown leather booths. The menu runs contemporary New American with European and South American threads woven through, so expect clean technique alongside the occasional curveball. It reads equally as a date spot or a low-key dinner with friends, which is either versatile or noncommittal, depending on your mood.

  71. The penny-tiled floor and wood bar hit you before you even look at the menu, and the garden out back feels like someone transplanted a corner of Umbria to Williamsburg. This is a proper Italian restaurant, the sit-down-and-stay kind, with a seasonal menu that leans into shared plates and house-made pasta. The crowd tends to linger, which tells you something about the pacing. Wildflowers on the tables, olive walls, no fuss.

  72. Roman trattoria cooking in a room that manages to feel elegant without making you feel underdressed. Antica Pesa is the Brooklyn outpost of a Rome institution, and it takes the classics seriously enough to go well past the obvious ones. The wine list is long, the hospitality is warm in that old-country way, and a spot on the 50 Top Italy list for the world's best Italian restaurants suggests the room is doing something right across the river.

  73. The plates here are handmade by a Venezuelan artisan, which tells you something about how seriously this Brooklyn restaurant takes the full picture. Chef Isbelis Diaz and her son run a warm, colorful room built around Venezuelan cooking, the kind where the staff steers you through the menu like they mean it. The short rib braised for two days in burnt sugarcane is the dish people talk about on the way home.

  74. The copper bar wrapped in cherry wood is what catches you first, then the wall of bottles behind it. Entre Nous is a French wine bar in Clinton Hill doing apéro culture without the affectation: natural wine, small plates cooked with more care than the relaxed room suggests, and an atmosphere that works equally well for one glass alone or a long night with friends.

    Italian

An open hearth warms the dimly lit room at this upscale Italian restaurant on Flatbush, where the sommelier-restaurateur's wine instincts shape the whole experience as much as the kitchen does. The pasta earns its reputation, and the menu leans into Southern Italian regional cooking without making a fuss about it. Bring a date or a small group; the room was built for exactly that kind of unhurried evening.

  76. Rattan furniture and a quietly tropical room a short walk from Fort Greene Park set the mood at this neighborhood Thai restaurant. The menu pulls from both northern and southern Thailand, which keeps things more interesting than the usual single-region rundown. The chive pancakes arrive crispy and golden, the fried rice gets a chili-lime jolt, and the 24-hour braised short ribs have a caramelized crust that does most of the convincing.

  77. Rank 78. Hungry Thirsty

    Southern Thai

The yellow facade on Smith Street belongs to a Southern Thai restaurant that already has people lining up, much as its predecessor in the same space once did. Inside, orange walls and a blue-and-green bar signal that subtlety was never the plan. The kitchen leans into spice and bold regional flavors, with curries, stir-fries, and a fried branzino in fish sauce that tends to stop conversation at the table.

  78. Rank 78. Madre

    Mediterranean

The carved doors belong to the hotel next door; Madre has its own entrance, and its own agenda. This multi-level Mediterranean restaurant sits at the base of the Franklin Guest House, dressed in industrial bones but cooking with considerably more ambition. The menu drifts between the Mediterranean and Latin America without making a fuss about it, which is a style of self-confidence that suits the room.

  79. Rank 78. Mango Bay

    Caribbean

Floral wallpaper meets leather booths inside this Fort Greene brownstone, which sets the tone for the cooking: Afro-Caribbean tradition with a city sensibility. It's a sit-down dinner spot, fun but not casual, the kind of room that makes you want to linger over braised oxtail with a group of friends. The Michelin Guide has had its eye on it, and the crowd that fills the booths on a weekend night suggests they're not the only ones paying attention.

  80. Rank 78. Meadowsweet

    Mediterranean

Glass facade, mosaic-tiled floors, and a view of the Williamsburg Bridge's ironwork overhead: Meadowsweet is a Mediterranean restaurant in Williamsburg that looks like it was designed by someone who actually thinks about rooms. The menu runs from vegetables to pasta to duck, cooked with the kind of care that keeps locals filling the place on a Tuesday. Friendly service and prices that won't require a moment of quiet reflection on the walk home.

  81. Rank 78. Mesiba

    Levantine

The name means "party" in Hebrew, and the Levantine restaurant at the base of the Moxy Williamsburg takes that seriously, with a sleek, buzzy room that nods to Tel Aviv's Bauhaus architecture. The menu moves from baba ganoush and falafel through whole striped bass and dumplings filled with charred onion ricotta, the kind of spread that makes ordering light feel like a personal failure. The Basque cheesecake has become the unofficial closing argument.

  82. Rank 78. Risbo

    Parisian French

The open-air rotisserie spinning in the front window is the tell: this is an all-day cafe built around Parisian-style spit-roasting, which in Flatbush means roasted chicken marinated for three days alongside bowls, platters, and seasonal grains. The whitewashed walls, cement floors, and a garden patio give it that particular Brooklyn-industrial ease. A good stop before or after Prospect Park, which is right there.

  83. The signature pancake, a single skillet-sized round finished with hazelnut-maple praline and brown butter, is reason enough to plan a Saturday night around getting here Sunday morning. This all-day Williamsburg spot runs two floors with very different personalities: a rustic bar downstairs and a palm-dotted, whitewashed dining room above. Everything is baked in-house, and the sourdough with beer butter makes a strong case for arriving hungry before brunch even starts.

  84. Rank 78. Tong

    Thai

The first question your server asks is how you feel about heat, and you should answer carefully. This sleek Bushwick Thai restaurant occupies a concrete-and-metal warehouse space dressed up with gold accents, where the menu of small sharing plates builds around chilies that show up in every corner. The khao soi has its regulars, and the crispy rice with fermented pork sausage is the kind of thing people order twice.

The flour tortillas are made in-house, and watching them come together at the counter is half the reason to show up early. This is a daytime tortilleria and counter-order burrito spot in Park Slope, from the team behind Corima. The tortillas are precise and pliable in a way that makes the whole thing feel different. Cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting and sea salt finish the job if you're still hungry, which you probably aren't.

The chef at this Brooklyn Vietnamese spot trained at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, and it shows, though not in a pretentious farm-to-table way. Falansai is a tasting-menu restaurant where seasonal thinking meets recipes passed down from Saigon, the two pulling in different directions in ways that tend to be interesting. The New York Times gave it two stars and a Critic's Pick in 2026.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
