The best French food in Philadelphia, according to the experts: Artful Living, Food & Wine, and Punch have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. My Loup comes out on top.

More Less

Jean-Georges Philadelphia and Laurel hold the next two places. Philadelphia Magazine shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with AAA next.

  1. The bookshelves and well-worn wood make My Loup feel less like a supper club and more like someone's very good dinner party. The French-leaning menu reads casual but cooks with real intent, seasonal and confidently seasoned, the kind of food where the chef is clearly enjoying themselves. The bar is no afterthought either, named among Punch's best new bartenders. The New York Times and Bon Appétit both took notice, and it's easy to see why.

  4. Cute tile floors and globe lights in a relaxed Old City row house, and the menu reads like someone just got back from Lyon and had a lot of feelings about it. Chef Christopher Kearse runs a modern French bistro where escargot and frog legs share the card with dry-aged duck, all handled with a genuinely classical hand. Grab a bar seat up front for snacks if you're not committing to the full dining room.

  5. The duck press arrives tableside in full theatrical flame, which tells you most of what you need to know about this petite French bistro in Collingswood. Beef Wellington and escargot anchor the classics end, but the seasonal menu is where the kitchen quietly does its most interesting work, cycling through dishes that disappear when the produce does. Bring your own bottle and a reason to linger.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
