Rank 101. Bricco Coal Fired Pizza
Coal-fired Pizzeria
The coal-fired oven sits at the center of the room like the point it's trying to make, and the point is a New York-style pie with deep Italian roots cooked the way early immigrants did it, because wood was too expensive. This is a comfortable, full-service pizza spot with appetizers, a solid wine list, and a menu that ranges well past margherita territory. Ranked 31st on 50 Top Pizza USA.

Rank 105. Fork
New American
The kind of New American restaurant where your water glass refills before you notice it's low and plates disappear at exactly the right moment. The executive chef, who came up through Noma and Vernick, brings a menu worth slowing down for in a dining room that rewards lingering. Old City has plenty of options, but few rooms where the service feels this quietly choreographed.

Rank 105. Pizzeria Vetri
Pizzeria
Marc Vetri is a name Philadelphians say with some reverence, and this casual pizza spot carries the family flag across a few Pennsylvania locations. The wood-fired pies come round or by the meter, with a dough that stays light without making a fuss about it. The menu runs from straight Italian classics toward a few fusion detours, and the salads are more interesting than they have any obligation to be. A pizza kit to take home rounds things out nicely.

Tastykake wrappers, scrapple company pennants, and Philly sports ephemera cover every wall at this Fishtown diner, where the decorating philosophy appears to be "yes, and." Omelets come loaded with local kielbasa sourced from an old-school Port Richmond butcher, hash browns arrive properly shattered on the outside, and the scrapple takes a left turn with spicy whitefish and pickled peppers. Daytime only, cheerful, and very much a neighborhood fixture.

Tesiny is a small raw bar and charcoal grill on a South Philly block of old-school institutions, a short walk from an abandoned garage, which is not the setting oysters usually ask for. Inside, velvet chairs and late-90s R&B give it the feel of a very good bar mitzvah afterparty. Stop in for a drink and a snack or stay for dinner, though expect a sit-down price, not a counter-service one.

Rank 105. The Bakery
Pizzeria
Six days a week it's a neighborhood bakery slinging coffee and doughnuts in South Philly. On Friday nights, The Bakery quietly pivots to "secret dinners," turning out a short, rotating menu of tall, square pizzas on soft, airy dough with a crackery undercarriage. Seats are few, the menu changes, and the whole operation feels more like eating at a friend's place than a restaurant. Arrive early, or just arrive flexible.

Rank 115. Blue Corn Restaurant
Mexican
Blue Corn is a casual Mexican spot in the Italian Market where the tortillas and both table salsas are made in-house, which is more effort than most places put into a free bowl of anything. The room is strung with so much festive decor that you'll wonder which holiday you missed, and the margaritas are strong enough to make you stop asking. Expect an easy dinner, jeans welcome, and a spot on The Infatuation's list of Philadelphia's top restaurants.

Rank 115. Cafe Nhan
Vietnamese
Chefs eating on their days off tend to be a reliable signal, and on Mondays and Tuesdays the counter at this compact Vietnamese restaurant on Passyunk fills with exactly that crowd. The kitchen is built around fragrant pho and bún bò Huế, the spicy lemongrass soup from the owner's hometown of Huế. Her son now runs the room alongside her, and his chicken wings have quietly become a reason to visit on their own.

Rank 115. Chibanos
Cuban Deli
Chibanos is a casual sandwich shop in Washington Square West where Cuban and Chinese cooking share a single piece of toasted pan cubano. Char siu pork goes between the bread, and breakfast versions ride on soft bolo baos. The yuca fries and Chinese sausage croquetas are there if you want a side, and the jasmine flan closes things out. Order at the counter, then settle in at a table inside or out, where half the neighborhood seems to be doing the same. The Infatuation put it at number 25 on its list of Philadelphia's best restaurants.

Rank 115. Emilia
Italian
Porchetta ribs and bucatini all'Amatriciana anchor the menu at this Italian restaurant on Frankford Avenue, where Greg Vernick stepped outside his usual lane to cook regional Italian for the first time. The room runs buzzy and packed, the service is tight, and the wine list leans Italian by the glass. It's a genuinely sexy room to land in Kensington, and the seasonal menu follows Italian tradition closely enough to feel considered without feeling like a museum piece.

French
The duck press arrives tableside in full theatrical flame, which tells you most of what you need to know about this petite French bistro in Collingswood. Beef Wellington and escargot anchor the classics end, but the seasonal menu is where the kitchen quietly does its most interesting work, cycling through dishes that disappear when the produce does. Bring your own bottle and a reason to linger.

The baristas here treat coffee sourcing the way a sommelier treats a wine list, asking what you're in the mood for, floral or fruity, bright or nutty, and steering you toward something you wouldn't have ordered on your own. This sunny corner coffee shop in Philadelphia is genuinely tiny, and weekend lines of pourover devotees stretch down the block. The za'atar croissants disappear early, so arriving with time to spare is less advice than strategy.

Rank 154. Corio
Pizzeria
Hazelnut pesto on pizza is either a bold move or a disaster, and the Vernick alums behind this casual pizza and pasta spot in University City have clearly decided it's the former. The pies get the headlines, but the pastas and meaty mains pull equal weight. Two Locals beer is on tap next door, the crowd skews young, and the whole thing has the easy energy of a neighborhood spot that hasn't yet been ruined by its own reputation.

Rank 154. TingTing’s
Cantonese Café
A Hong Kong-style all-day cafe where five-spice wings, barbecued unagi over scrambled eggs, Portuguese custard tarts, and clam chowder share a menu without anyone blinking. TingTing's, from the team behind EMei, is small, crowded, and BYO, which covers the essentials. The menu sprawls in the way those old Hong Kong cafes do, where Western comfort food and Cantonese staples occupy the same laminated page and somehow coexist peacefully.

Nick Elmi's neighborhood American restaurant in Bala Cynwyd comes with easy parking and a patio built for watching the sun set over the Schuylkill, which could make it a very comfortable coast. Instead, the crudos arrive in chilled honeydew consommé, and the cavatelli comes loaded with escargot and bone marrow. The suburban polish is real, but the kitchen keeps finding a way to make the familiar strange in the best sense.

The pasta is hand-cut and the regulars are on a first-name basis with the staff, which tells you most of what you need to know about this Italian trattoria on East Passyunk. The kitchen draws from Abruzzo, the rugged, largely overlooked region where rustic presentation and serious technique are the same thing. Desserts are priced like it's still a neighborhood joint, because it is, and they're open every day, which feels increasingly rare.

Rank 165. Rice & Sambal
Indonesian
Indonesian BYOB on East Passyunk, where the sambal arrives in three versions and the jasmine rice is fluffy enough to make you rethink every rice you've had before it. The schedule here does a lot of the personality work: brunch on Sundays, a family-style banana-leaf spread on Saturdays, and a monthly prix fixe on weeknights that tends to linger in memory longer than the tab does. Bring a bottle.

Rank 165. Royal Tavern
American
A Citywide Special and a burger, treated with the focus of a fine-dining kitchen, is Royal Tavern's whole argument. This Bella Vista bar has been doing burgers, cherry BBQ wings, house-made mortadella, and grilled cheese in a narrow, glowing room on Passyunk for as long as anyone can remember. The kind of place where you go in for one drink and linger over two courses you didn't plan on ordering.
