The Best Dutch Food in the Netherlands

Sections

Tap another section to add it.

The best Dutch food in the Netherlands, according to the experts: the Michelin Guide, the Lekker 500, and Eater have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Bolenius Rembrandtpark comes out on top, and the good stuff runs deepest in Amsterdam and Arnhem.

More Less

Triptyque and Locals hold the next two places. The Lekker 500 and the Michelin Guide show up on more of this list than any other guide.

Kinds of places

  1. Luc Kusters grows much of what he serves on the grounds around this Michelin-starred Dutch restaurant in Rembrandtpark, so the garden is basically the menu. The kitchen tracks micro-seasons with the dedication of a farmer who also happens to plate beautifully, and the two tasting menus, one plant-based, one broader Dutch, pull from local producers in ways that feel quietly radical. Light cooking, serious flavor, and a room that looks like someone actually thought about it.

  2. Niven Kunz built his reputation on an 80/20 rule: at least eighty percent of every plate at this Michelin-starred creative restaurant is vegetables and fruit. That carrot tartare people talk about takes several days to produce and does look unnervingly like the real thing. The room leans into natural luxury, dried flowers and all, and the vibe is genuinely rooted in the Westland growing region just outside the door.

  3. A vertical farm upstairs feeds the kitchen downstairs, which sets the tone at this Dutch Cuisine restaurant inside Hotel Haarhuis, steps from Arnhem Central. The chef leans hard into vegetables, pulling lentils, herbs, and seasonal produce from as close to home as possible, with fish and meat following the same local logic. Warm colors and a tangle of plants make the room feel like the philosophy made physical.

  4. Four tables, a staircase steep enough to make you reconsider, and a strong claim to being Europe's smallest pancake restaurant. This is a Dutch pancake spot, which means the pancakes land somewhere between a crepe and the fluffy American kind, piled with toppings both sweet and savory. The building has been around forever, the decor leans old Dutch, and the owners often cook your meal themselves. Bring patience and a low ceiling tolerance.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
