The Best Peruvian Food in the Netherlands

Sections

Tap another section to add it.

The best Peruvian food in the Netherlands, according to the experts: the Michelin Guide and the Lekker 500 have both weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Novaela comes out on top, and the good stuff runs deepest in Amsterdam and Cromvoirt.

More Less

Nami and De Salentein hold the next two places. The Lekker 500 and the Michelin Guide show up on more of this list than any other guide.

  1. Rank 1. Novaela

    Contemporary Peruvian

The oval stone counter and exposed wooden beams of a centuries-old beguinage set the stage for what is, by any measure, a serious fine dining restaurant. The chef's Peruvian roots thread quietly through two tasting menus, lending spice and bright acidity to immaculate ingredients. A glass roof opens in good weather over tables with a direct view of the kitchen. It holds a Michelin star.

  2. Rank 2. Nami

    Nikkei

A futuristic swooping building on a golf course in the Brabant countryside is an unlikely setting for Nikkei cuisine, but here we are. The restaurant holds a Michelin star for its Japanese-Peruvian menu, where sharp ceviche and robata-grilled bites give way to sushi that makes the drive feel reasonable. The kitchen handles acid and heat with a confident hand, and the terrace on a good day borders on unfair to everyone eating indoors.

  3. The restaurant raises its own beef cattle and runs its own winery in Argentina, which tells you something about how seriously this place takes its South American obsession. De Salentein is a polished, sit-down dining room outside Nijkerk that brings Argentine and Uruguayan cooking to the Netherlands, with open-flame grilling at its center. The chimichurri and empanadas are genuine, and the ceviche gets a leche de tigre vinaigrette that earns its place on the menu.

  4. Rank 3. Nazka

    Modern Peruvian

The entrance looks like you've wandered into a wine cellar, which makes the Peruvian restaurant inside feel like a pleasant surprise. Nazka runs on pisco cocktails, ceviche, and the kitchen's fondness for layering chilli heat against Asian umami. The room is lively and the wine list pulls from well beyond South America, which suits the crowd that fills the place on a weeknight.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
