  5. Evening Bar is a hotel cocktail bar tucked off Parker's Alley, and you find the door by looking for the one with eyes painted on it, which feels like being watched by your own bad decisions. Inside it's small and amber-lit, with a short menu of cocktails, beer, and wine, plus a bell-pepper tequila drink and a few zero-proof options. Food & Wine put it on a 2025 list of the top hotel bars in the US.

  6. Ski-in/ski-out access mid-mountain at Northstar Resort means you can theoretically go straight from bed to chairlift without touching a parking lot. This Forbes Four Star resort leans into the alpine lodge fantasy hard: a great room instead of a lobby, fireplaces in every room, and balconies facing Martis Valley. The heated outdoor pool keeps going through winter, and a spa handles whatever the mountain did to your legs.

  7. The Fidelity Hotel Cleveland sits in a restored 1920s mortgage building on what was Short Vincent, the old strip of jazz joints and whiskey bars that once made this city feel briefly like Manhattan. Ninety-seven rooms with Bellino linens, sculptural lighting, and deep, considered color throughout. The Club Room downstairs earns its keep with low light and strong drinks. A Michelin Key hotel, for those keeping score.

  8. Every room at Hotel ZaZa Memorial City has its own distinct decor, and the overall look lands somewhere between gallery and fever dream, in the best possible, most deliberate way. This boutique hotel on the west side brings the brand's signature mix of maximalist design and genuine comfort to a city that doesn't get enough of either. Michelin recognized it with one Key. Pack something that photographs well.

  10. Rank 1110. Barcoa Agaveria

    Mexican Cocktail Bar

Two bars for the price of one obsession: an energetic street-level cantina with patio and a reservation-only basement room for quieter, deeper agave rabbit-holing. A food truck parks outside when hunger arrives. The agave selection runs wide enough that the bartenders will happily guide you in, and the cocktails, like a mezcal-and-pistachio-milk situation, suggest this is not your average tequila shelf.

  11. A seven-story resort parked directly in front of Oceanside's historic wooden pier, with rolling surf visible from most rooms. The rooftop pool and bar, dressed in palm trees and retro daybeds, is where the whole hotel seems to migrate at golden hour for the panoramic Pacific sunset. The Baja-influenced restaurant Valle draws its own crowd. Oceanside is having a moment, and this resort arrived right on cue.

  12. The Greek Revival mansion a short walk from UT Austin has been a boutique hotel for a while now, but it has been many things longer. The original lady of the house, Ella Wooten, spent decades turning what was an ordinary estate into something considerably less ordinary, and the place has been coasting on her taste ever since. A calm, handsome stay in a neighborhood that doesn't always offer either.

  13. Marriott's Autograph Collection landed in Austin not downtown but beside the UT campus, which tells you something about its vibe. The Otis leans hard into the city's live-music identity, weaving that thread through the room design and the details rather than just hanging a guitar on a wall. Rooms run luxe without going cold, and four on-site restaurants and bars cover everything from New American to tapas to a rooftop lounge.

  14. Floor-to-ceiling windows face the Manhattan skyline across the Hudson, which is about as pointed a statement as a hotel can make without saying a word. The W Hoboken is a full-service hotel with the brand's signature bold graphics, loud color, and buzzy public spaces, plus a spa and fitness center for the morning after. Halifax handles the seafood side, and the Living Room bar runs craft cocktails with live music.

  15. Jeff "Beachbum" Berry wrote the books that revived tiki culture, and then he went and opened a bar. Latitude 29 sits inside a French Quarter hotel, all mid-century lines and lauhala matting, with a chunky oak bar backed by a tiki map of the world. It leans sophisticated rather than plastic-hula-girl, and the rum and fruit cocktails are the serious kind, made by people who know exactly what they're doing.

  16. You find this tiki bar by following strangers down a narrow alley off Clark Street, which is either a great sign or a terrible one depending on your instincts. A staircase descends under a wall of skulls into a big, dim basement decked out in modern tiki grandeur. The drinks are serious and the room knows it. Difford's Guide gives it five stars, and the wait on weekends is its own kind of endorsement.

  18. While the rest of Palm Springs does mid-century California, this 11-room adults-only hideaway is cosplaying 1960s St. Tropez, and somehow it works. Sunny colors, bohemian interiors, a pool built for lingering, and an orchard that makes you forget the desert is right there. Breakfast is included; dinner you'll find nearby with a little help from the staff. A Michelin Key property.

    The awards

  19. A converted motor lodge on Sunset Boulevard, Le Petit Pali Brentwood is a 25-room boutique hotel tucked into one of LA's quieter, leafier neighborhoods. Four bungalow buildings wrap around patios with stone fountains and string lights strung over Adirondack chairs, giving it the feel of a private garden compound. Brentwood runs short on hotels by design, so staying here is about as close as you get to the residential calm the locals guard so carefully. The Michelin Guide awarded it one Key.

  20. Sitting inside an open-air shopping village just across the river from downtown Tampa, this Palisociety boutique hotel brings the brand's California-by-way-of-Europe sensibility to the Gulf Coast without it feeling out of place. Hyde Park is a quietly upscale residential pocket, and the hotel fits the neighborhood, colorful and eclectic without trying too hard. It holds a Michelin Key.

    The awards

  21. Bathtubs carved from old horse troughs are the giveaway that Sparrows Lodge has a point of view. This Michelin Key boutique hotel wears its ranch bones lightly: recycled mid-century wood, a red barn that opens for dinner and drinks at night, and a pool ringed by guests in retro swimwear who look like they read actual books. Horseshoes, wooden tennis rackets, private campfires. Summer camp, basically, for people with good taste in cocktails.

    The awards

  22. Three creeks actually run through the property, which is how a Montana luxury ranch earns a name like this. Ninety minutes from Missoula and sitting at 4,600 feet in the Bitterroot Mountains, Triple Creek is the kind of all-inclusive hideaway where the event calendar runs from cowboy school to vintner weekends, and 750 forested acres mean you won't hear much besides running water. A Forbes Four Star property, and a Michelin 2 Keys listing.

    The awards

  23. The marble lobby skips every mouse ear in a ten-mile radius, which tells you what kind of resort this is. The JW Marriott Bonnet Creek sits close enough to the parks to catch the EPCOT fireworks from the sixth-floor Activity Garden, yet the design runs cool and geometric rather than costumed. A sprawling pool, mini golf, and a rock-climbing wall mean families aren't exactly suffering, just doing it in a quieter register.

    The awards

  24. A waterfall that ignites with flames at night sets the tone for this sprawling desert resort, where four themed pools compete for your attention and two championship golf courses fill the gaps. At 950 rooms across 300 Sonoran Desert acres, "going back to the room" barely narrows things down. Eight restaurants mean you can avoid ever leaving, which, in Phoenix in July, is a feature not a flaw.

  25. A Craftsman-style resort perched above the Pacific, where the stained glass and Stickley-influenced furniture make it feel more like a very grand lodge than a hotel. Guests sleep in rooms with ocean or golf course views, many with fireplaces, and those who play can tee off on the adjacent championship course at Torrey Pines. The kind of place that makes you feel obscurely guilty if you spend the whole day inside.

  26. The fountain show out front sets the tone: this is Las Vegas at its most theatrical, and the hotel leans into every inch of it. Inside, a 50-foot glass conservatory fills with thousands of blooming plants, changed out seasonally by a crew that takes the assignment very seriously. The resort runs a full roster of restaurants, from Picasso to Michael Mina, plus a buffet that has no interest in pretending to be modest.

  27. Ski valet at the base of the lift sets the tone at this Auberge Collection hotel in Telluride's Mountain Village. The renovated 83-room property looks like a modern Swiss chateau, with fireplaces, wood beams, and colorful art keeping it from tipping into total ski-lodge cliche. Suites have kitchenettes and balconies over the slopes. The outdoor pool sits ringed by mountains, and the Timber Room's double-sided fireplace does its job extremely well. Forbes Four Star and a Michelin Key.

  28. A Midtown hotel where the food obsession is baked into the architecture, not just the restaurant name. Butcher block wood, brushed metal, and food-focused art run through the rooms without tipping into theme-park territory. The Epicurean Theatre is the draw: a proper professional kitchen where guests book wine workshops, charcuterie classes, and chocolate tastings. The High Museum and Piedmont Park are both walkable, which helps justify the address.

  33. A storybook 1920s inn on the Russian River, the Stavrand has been around forever and carries that easy confidence. A recent renovation kept the historical bones and layered in something warm and quietly bohemian, the kind of California dream that doesn't announce itself. The restaurant stays central to the whole project, with a team of chefs leaning hard into the produce of this absurdly fertile region. It holds two Michelin Keys.

  35. Massive windows facing the Gulf handle most of the design work at this Forbes Four Star resort, letting the light do what the sand-toned marble and blue accents quietly suggest. Part of the Marassi Al Bahrain complex on the island's northwest shore, it keeps its food and beverage operation deliberately focused: one restaurant, a garden terrace for evening drinks, and afternoon tea in the lounge. The spa runs until ten, for guests who refuse to choose between a massage and a sunset.

  36. The awards

  37. A preserved 19th-century house in Mount Pleasant, just across the bridge from Charleston, that was quietly converted into a boutique inn with a restaurant at its core. The room count stays small, the rooms themselves are beautifully put together, and the whole thing leans into Lowcountry charm without drowning in it, which is harder than it sounds. The Michelin Guide awarded it one Key.

    The awards

  38. The rooftop deck sits above the old town square with a view of the same Teton skyline that's been pulling people here forever. The Cloudveil is a boutique hotel that threads the needle between mountain-lodge warmth and the kind of sharp, contemporary detail that reads as quietly expensive. Stone and timber nod to the Rockies without going full taxidermy. It holds a Michelin Key, which seems about right for a place this considered.

    The awards

  39. Bellhops in denim and cowboy hats set the tone at this Auberge resort spread across a 712-acre working ranch on the Napa-Sonoma border. Stone and wood farmhouses serve as guest rooms, wildflowers fill the grounds, and a vast spa complex anchors the wellness side of things. The ranch aesthetic is committed but tasteful, never sliding into theme-park territory. The Michelin Guide awarded it one Key.

    The awards

  40. A 317-acre resort in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, about ten minutes from the Santa Fe plaza, Bishop's Lodge has been around forever, cycling from archbishop's residence to dude ranch before landing in its current life as an Auberge property. Kiva fireplaces and Native American art fill the rooms, while outside there's hiking, horseback riding, a heated pool, and a chapel repurposed for yoga, which feels very Santa Fe.

    The awards

  41. Ten acres of Spanish colonial buildings, red-tile roofs, and sun-baked courtyards that started life as a horse ranch and never really lost the feeling of one. This La Jolla resort spreads itself unhurriedly across lush native gardens with fire pits, a heated saltwater pool, a Moroccan-inspired spa, and guest rooms that are considerably more comfortable than any stable. Three dining venues on-site means you don't have to leave if you'd rather not.

  42. Rank 1143. Viridian

    Cocktail Bar

Cocktail bar in Oakland's uptown neighborhood, Viridian takes its interior cues from Hong Kong cinema and 90s album covers, which sounds like a mood board disaster but lands as something genuinely electric. The bar director comes from Lazy Bear, and the cocktails lean savory and seasonal with a pull toward Asian flavors. A Top 10 Nominee for a Spirited Award and a 50 Discovery listing round out a résumé that the room feels like it earned.

    Craft Cocktail Bar

The horseshoe bar juts into a low-ceilinged room lit by fairy lights, which tells you most of what you need to know before the first drink arrives. This is a cocktail bar with serious craft credentials and a named spot on Difford's Guide, but it wears that lightly. Off-duty bartenders from around Portland fill the stools, which is either the best endorsement or a sign you'll have to work harder to get the bartender's attention.

  44. The textile-block facade here carries a Frank Lloyd Wright fingerprint, which is a good conversation starter at check-in. The Arizona Biltmore is a grand historic resort in Phoenix's Biltmore district, a neighborhood the hotel effectively named. Old-money Arizonans and the occasional president have been regulars for generations, and the stained-glass skylights make it feel less like a hotel lobby and more like a very comfortable monument.

  45. A rooftop pool heated against the desert night, with cocktails and small plates at the poolside bar, is a reasonable argument for booking a room. The Camby is a design-forward hotel in Phoenix's Biltmore District, where rooms face either the city grid or the mountains depending on your preference. Downstairs there's a full dining room and a bar serving spiked teas for surviving the afternoon heat with dignity.

  46. The Beaux Arts bones of this Peachtree Street tower have been around forever, and the restoration leans into that, pairing grand marble public spaces with rooms that nod to the South without going full plantation-house about it. It's a full-service hotel in the Curio Collection, so the comforts are reliable without being anonymous. By George, the in-house restaurant, handles the split well too: modernist furniture, imposing columns, nobody seems confused.

  47. A Jittery Joe's outpost in a Ritz-Carlton lobby says something about Atlanta's particular relationship with this hotel: formal enough for marble bathrooms and rain showers, loose enough for live music and contemporary art on the walls. The rooms run lavish and quietly high-tech, the fitness center stocks Peloton bikes with personalized programs, and the steakhouse and cocktail bar draw locals who aren't staying the night.

  48. Rooms decorated like a maximalist's mood board sit at the center of Midtown Atlanta's arts district, which is either a coincidence or very good planning. The Starling is a boutique hotel with graphic prints and bold color accents throughout, toned-down rooms included. A rooftop pool, spa, and a sprawling indoor-outdoor bar with a wraparound counter round things out for guests who'd rather not leave the building.

  49. The round glass tower still dominates the Atlanta skyline, and rooms start on the 15th floor, so the city views aren't incidental. This is a large downtown convention hotel with a AAA Four Diamond rating, an 11th-floor pool under a retractable glass roof, and a fine-dining restaurant at the top. Conference crowds keep the lobby in motion, but sports venues and a serious stretch of restaurants are all a short walk out the door.

    The awards

  50. The ornate lobby, with its oak floors and chandeliers, survived a top-to-bottom renovation that also finally buried the Sir Francis Drake name. This grand hotel anchors the corner of Powell and Sutter with the kind of architectural confidence that makes Union Square feel like it has a spine. The Prohibition-era secrets are still there if you go looking, and the rooftop bar at Starlite still has the panoramic hills view that makes locals pretend they're tourists.

  51. The peacock-blue awning and manicured topiaries flanking the entrance give this Union Square hotel the feel of a very well-dressed New York apartment building. Inside, marble and a crystal chandelier are softened by orchids and deep couches, keeping the lobby intimate rather than grand. Rooms run warm and golden, with window seats and writing desks. The top-floor suite seats eight for dinner, in case you've overcommitted.

  52. A 25-story Brutalist tower near the Embarcadero that got a very good interior decorator, The Jay is a design-forward hotel where midcentury California aesthetics meet Japanese-American modernist influences, courtesy of AvroKO's Ruth Asawa-inspired rooms. Tone-on-tone colors, warm wood, and custom art fill even the smallest rooms, which still run over 400 square feet. Ask for something above the 15th floor and the Bay Bridge fills your window.

  53. Rank 1155. The Corner

    Cocktail Bar

Dark wood, bare concrete, and blinds angled just enough to keep the early evening gloom intact: The Corner is a cocktail bar that dresses like it has nothing to prove. The beer list is deep, the liquor selection is serious, and the cocktails hold their own without any fuss. A few tables spill onto the sidewalk for watching a street that, frankly, isn't doing much. That turns out to be exactly the point.

  54. A graffiti installation called the Museum of Street Art lines the walls, which feels right for a hotel sitting on the Bowery. citizenM keeps things pod-sized and self-serve: contactless check-in, wall-to-wall king beds that eat most of the room, and a clean modern bathroom. When the walls close in, the Living Room downstairs absorbs you, with a grab-and-go bar alongside. The New Museum is a block north, and the Lower East Side is right outside.

  55. Bunk rooms in a Manhattan hotel, by choice, designed by Roman and Williams, the firm behind some of the city's more coveted boutique addresses. Freehand is a Gramercy Park hotel that solved the New York math problem: style without the rate that requires a corporate card. Simple wood furniture, art by Bard students, and a George Washington Bar downstairs that stays classic without trying too hard.

    The awards

  56. John Cage's 4'33" is a listed design inspiration, which tells you most of what you need to know about this minimalist hotel on the Bowery. Rooms are bento-box small but composed with care, and the bigger configurations fit a whole touring band. A rooftop bar on the 11th floor and a garden-patio restaurant downstairs mean you don't have to wander far, though the Lower East Side makes wandering very easy.

  58. Rank 1160. Daisies

    Italian

Pasta and vegetables carry most of the weight here, at this bright, sun-flooded Italian restaurant in Logan Square that holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand. The house-made pappardelle and rigatoni keep regulars coming back, but the onion dip with house-made ruffles has become a thing people talk about. A bakery tucked in the back means the pastry situation at the end of a meal is genuinely hard to navigate. The bar program turns heads too, a James Beard semifinalist for hospitality.

  59. Two Greg Norman-designed golf courses sit at the center of this Forbes Four Star resort, which tilts toward the active end of the Ritz-Carlton spectrum. Tennis, golf, and a sprawling pool complex with waterslides and a lazy river keep everyone occupied, and a complimentary shuttle runs to the brand's beachside property nearby. The crowd skews toward families and golfers who never really stop moving, which is the whole idea.

    The awards

  60. A modernist resort on a coastal bluff between San Diego and Orange County, Alila Marea sits just high enough above the Pacific that even the pool feels like a vantage point. Rooms run toward calm minimalism with floor-to-ceiling windows, and not every one faces the water directly, though the tradeoff is rarely painful. The spa, a poolside bar, and VAGA Restaurant round out the property for guests who'd rather not leave.

  61. A boutique hotel planted at the center of downtown Napa's unlikely glow-up, the Archer puts you within easy walking distance of wine tasting rooms, public art, and the kind of riverfront that makes you forget you came here to drink. The rooms lean into wine-country warmth without overdoing the rustic affectations, and the location does most of the heavy lifting for anyone who wants to explore on foot rather than rent a car.

    The awards

  62. All 290 rooms are suites, which sets the tone before you've even unpacked. This all-suite condo resort rises 24 stories above the A1A oceanfront stretch between Sunrise and Las Olas boulevards, putting the beach a short walk away and the cruise terminal not far behind it. The nautical theme runs throughout, and the scale skews toward people who prefer their hotel stays to feel less like a hotel stay.

    The awards

  63. Craftsman timber beams and a stone hearth the size of a small house anchor the lobby of this Disney resort hotel, which opens directly onto California Adventure and Downtown Disney. More than 900 rooms means it's never exactly intimate, but the proximity to the parks is the whole point. Tenaya Stone Spa offers a quieter corner when the churro fumes get overwhelming. Cast members handle everything with unsettling cheer, which is either magical or unnerving depending on your caffeine level.

  64. A boutique hotel on 22 acres in the middle of Yountville, Vintage House leans into the pastoral fantasy without overdoing it. The 80 rooms and suites sit amid manicured grounds shared with a wine shop, bocce court, and a vineyard. Complimentary tastings run on select evenings, and partner winery perks keep the itinerary loose. Thomas Keller's French Laundry is a short walk away, which tells you everything about the neighborhood.

  65. Nineteenth-century portraits of the Duke family line the lobby of this upscale hotel, which sits on the edge of Duke University's campus and caters to visiting parents, conference crowds, and golfers who take their 18-hole championship course with GPS-guided carts. The 271 rooms lean toward traditional comfort, while the public spaces carry a philanthropist's-manor calm that makes the surrounding college-town bustle feel like someone else's problem.

  67. Rank 1170. Death & Co

    Cocktail Bar

The name is a nod to a Prohibition-era collective that disguised speakeasy maps as temperance posters, which tells you exactly the kind of commitment to the bit you're walking into. Death & Co is a proper cocktail bar on a quiet East Village block, dark and close and serious about what's in your glass. The crowd leans dressed-up without being showy, and the bartenders talk about spirits the way sommeliers talk about Burgundy.

  71. A delivery robot named Astro ferries forgotten phone chargers down the hallways, which tells you most of what you need to know about this tech-forward boutique hotel. The building is old-school San Francisco, right across from the Powell Street cable-car turnaround, with wrought-iron railings and marble that survived the 1906 earthquake. Rooms go calm and minimal in fog greys and powder blues. The Michelin Guide has it among its selected hotels.

  72. The Fairmont keeps its own rooftop bees, which tells you something about how seriously it takes the whole enterprise. This grand Nob Hill hotel has been around forever, stately enough to slow your pace the moment you walk into the lobby. Rooms lean elegant over flashy, with Frette linens and Le Labo amenities. The concierge is one of those genuinely useful ones who knows where locals actually eat, not just where tourists end up.

  73. A lobby stocked with Warhol-esque art and enough arcade games to make you forget you're in SoMa is a commitment to a bit. This hotel plants itself in the middle of San Francisco's tech corridor and leans into it cheerfully, with rooms kitted out for either wellness obsessives or families who need a Nintendo Switch to survive a business trip. Condé Nast Traveler named it one of the city's top hotels, and the Michelin Guide has it on their hotel selection.

  74. A motel-shaped boutique hotel in the Tenderloin with a courtyard big enough to park a tour bus, which is not an accident. The Phoenix was a rock-and-roll crash pad for decades before boutique hotels were a category, hosting everyone from Bowie to Nirvana. Texas-based Bunkhouse now runs it, and the rooms are compact, bold, and comfortable without pretending to be luxury. The pool, ringed with palms, remains the social center.

  75. The check-in desk glows pink and purple, and the bar has LED lights embedded in it, so you know exactly what kind of hotel this is before you've touched your keycard. The W SoMa sits a short walk from SFMOMA in a neighborhood that suits its energy, with decor that leans into the spectacle rather than apologizing for it. A good fit if you want a design-forward hotel and a central SoMa address over a muted boutique experience.

  78. The lobby never quite decides if it's a hotel or a party, which is exactly the point. Ace Hotel New York anchors NoMad with a ground floor that shifts from laptop-open co-working in the afternoon to a full DJ set by midnight, all without anyone changing rooms. The rooms upstairs are what you'd expect from the chain that made "hip hotel" a genre: raw edges, good sound systems, and guests who pack light.

  79. Full-length windows do a lot of heavy lifting at this NoMad hotel, where the rooms are compact by any honest measure but bright enough that you stop noticing. Arlo has figured out that good light and a smart layout can substitute for square footage, which matters when the alternative is paying Manhattan prices for a room that feels like a sensory deprivation tank. A solid, unpretentious option in a neighborhood that keeps improving.

  88. White sand and Gulf water right outside the door set the tone at this sprawling beachside resort. The Ritz-Carlton, Naples has been around forever, and a recent top-to-bottom renovation brought new cabanas, poolside bungalows, and a massive Club Lounge that the brand calls its largest. The spa got a refresh too. A Forbes Four Star property, it draws the kind of guests who prefer their beach days with a butler nearby.

  89. A coral-hued Mediterranean landmark on Royal Palm Way that sat empty for nearly two decades before reopening as Palm House, a boutique luxury hotel with a Michelin Key. The sixties-inspired rooms lean cheerful rather than stuffy, with Juliet balconies and marble soaking tubs, while the suites go full Art Deco curves. The Palm Bar's pink Murano glass chandeliers do a lot of work, and the pool deck with its palm-framed courtyard suggests Palm Beach at exactly its most Palm Beach.

  90. Floor-to-ceiling smart windows that use AI to regulate room temperature set the tone at this 17-story, two-tower hotel in Lake Nona, a tech-forward community about ten minutes from Orlando International. The architecture actually waves, which is either charming or on the nose depending on your mood. A sculpture garden, art collection, and a vivid pool area fill the grounds. It holds a Michelin Key.

  92. The grounds are landscaped to echo Monet's Water Lilies, which sets the tone: this Forbes Four Star inn near Plymouth leans hard into French countryside fantasy, turrets and all, less than an hour from Boston. Fifty rooms, attentive staff, and a 14,000-square-foot spa with a heated foot pool, an Aqua Terrace with waterfall and fireplace, and a full fitness calendar. The spa is the real draw, and most guests seem to know it before they even unpack.

  93. All-suite lodging on a sprawling Upstate New York resort campus, The Lodge at Turning Stone keeps its 95 rooms on the quieter end of a property that also contains a casino, three championship golf courses, and two spas. The smallest suite runs 550 square feet, so the space feels deliberate rather than accidental. Forbes Four Star. Guests who want the full resort circus can find it; guests who don't can mostly avoid it.

  94. A botanical art installation behind the front desk and water features throughout the lobby signal that this casino resort in the San Bernardino foothills is trying to be something calmer than the 6,500 slot machines on the floor below might suggest. The 432-room tower earns a Forbes Four Star rating, with a wellness spa, poolside cabanas, and a full spread of dining options. Highland is 70 minutes from L.A., which is part of the pitch.

    Cocktail Bar

The cocktail menu lists a drink called the Big Booty Trudy, which tells you exactly what kind of bar this is: East Dallas neighborhood spot, dressed up but never stiff. The drinks lean classic and a little cheeky, the bar food skews surprisingly serious, with a rotating kitchen pop-up from a James Beard-nominated chef. Furikake fries alongside a Mai Tai is a more natural pairing than it sounds.

  96. The doorman in a ten-gallon hat sets the tone at this ski-in, ski-out resort at the base of Beaver Creek. Timber and stone outside nod to the national park lodge tradition, while inside the rooms run to leather chairs, dark wood, and beamed ceilings. The mountain-family itinerary is generous: fly fishing, an outdoor pool, golf, and slopes right out the door for anyone who came for the obvious reason.

  97. A 32-story tower on the white-sand stretch of Sunny Isles, this full-service beach resort sits just north of Bal Harbour and leans into the full Florida fantasy. Rooms come with wet bars and mini-fridges, the Aquanox Spa runs 8,000 square feet, and the water toys on offer run from kayaks to jet skis. The crowd arrives with sunscreen and ambition, in roughly equal measure.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
