The best places to eat and drink in Louisville/Jefferson County, according to the experts: The Pinnacle Guide, Wildsam, and Spirited Awards have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Pretty Decent comes out on top, and the good stuff runs deepest in Louisville.
More Less
Decade and Nami Modern Korean Steakhouse hold the next two places. AAA shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with Eater next.

Rank 2. Nami Modern Korean Steakhouse
Modern Korean Steakhouse
Edward Lee's modern Korean steakhouse in Butchertown gives you a choice: sit at a regular table and work through kimbap, bibimbap, and Korean barbecue, or claim a grill table and cook your own meat while the kitchen handles the rest. Weekend brunch adds a dim-sum-style option to the mix. The taiyaki, fish-shaped and filled with chocolate pecan pie and yuja cream, lands somewhere between Seoul and the South, which is more or less Lee's whole thesis.

The hummus comes with schug, herb tehina, and enough conviction to make every other hummus in town feel like it needs to apologize. This is a casual Eastern Mediterranean restaurant drawing from Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Israel, with a menu that roams widely and settles nowhere predictable. The chef behind it earned a James Beard nomination for Best Chef Southeast. Come hungry enough for babka.

Rank 6. North of Bourbon
Cajun & Creole
Gumbo as dark as a Louisiana bayou at midnight, only built around smoked brisket and wilted greens, is a reasonable summary of what the kitchen is doing here. This modern Cajun-Creole restaurant in Louisville's Schnitzelburg neighborhood lands chef Lawrence Weeks on the New York Times Restaurant List and a James Beard Emerging Chef semifinalist nod, both in the same year. The menu takes familiar Southern dishes and quietly tilts them sideways with Haitian, Latin, and Gulf Coast influences.

Rank 8. Seviche
Nuevo Latin American
The ceviche is the obvious draw, but the skirt steak with chimichurri and cheese-mashed potatoes quietly argues that this is as much a steakhouse as a ceviché bar. Anthony Lamas's Latin American restaurant on Bardstown Road has been around long enough to predate Louisville's dining boom and still fills the room on its own terms. He earned a James Beard semifinalist nod in 2022, which tells you something about how seriously the kitchen takes the menu.

Rank 10. Jack Fry's
American
Signed photos of jockeys and Louisville sportsmen cover the walls at this old-school bistro on Bardstown Road, which has been a neighborhood institution long enough that the regulars probably knew Jack himself. The kitchen leans Southern with French moves, so expect grits alongside cream sauces and the occasional saltimbocca. A band plays midweek, giving the room a warmth that keeps people from leaving at a decent hour.

Rank 15. The Bar at Fort Nelson
Cocktail Bar
The cocktail program here was curated by David Wondrich, which tells you something. This is a whiskey bar on the second floor of the Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery, and it leans into that setting without apology: classic whiskey cocktails, a deep roster of bottles, modern riffs, and a handful of alcohol-free options, all served in custom glassware. The room is warm and unhurried, the kind of place that makes bourbon tourism feel less like homework.

Rank 25. Coals Artisan Pizza
Neapolitan Pizzeria
The pizzas are named after Louisville neighborhoods, which tells you something about how this Neapolitan-style pizza spot sees itself. The crust leans more pronounced than a traditional Neapolitan, and everything from the appetizers to desserts is made in-house or sourced from local artisans. No delivery, by design, because the pie doesn't survive the trip. It landed on 50 Top Pizza USA, if you need a reason to go in.

The name undersells it: Butchertown Grocery Bakery is a breakfast and lunch spot where the pastry case gets equal billing with the sandwich menu. The wagyu pastrami sandwich with hot mustard and a runny egg has the kind of following that fills tables before noon. Weekend mornings bring out the rolled croissants in rotating flavors, the kind of thing people plan their Saturdays around without quite admitting it.

A rotating supper club perched atop the Galt House Hotel, Swizzle turns slowly enough that you'll catch the Ohio River from every seat without getting up. The menu runs prime steaks, sustainable seafood, and local produce, but the signature move is the 1910 Old Fashioned, served under a cloud of smoke in a box, a nod to a long-ago distillery fire. Retro in spirit, deliberately theatrical in execution.

The bar is a skinny brick-and-wood-floor sliver off the dining room, one row of tall tables against the wall and barely enough aisle to turn around in. A cocktail bar where the staff in flannel and jeans serves a menu that, despite the name, doesn't lean especially hard on rye whiskey. The attached restaurant runs fine-dining prices, so expect the drinks to match.
