The best Italian food in Miami, according to the experts: Wine Enthusiast, the Michelin Guide, and The Infatuation have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Macchialina comes out on top.

More Less

Mano Libera and Walrus Rodeo hold the next two places. The Miami New Times shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with 50 Top Pizza next.

  1. The tiramisu gets a Miami rewrite here, dulce de leche cream under a cap of espresso granita, and that instinct runs through everything at this snug Italian restaurant on Alton Road. Tufted banquettes and a covered patio set the mood, the wine list runs almost entirely Italian, and the bar pours house-infused grappa in flavors like chai and chamomile. The pasta is made in-house, and regulars fill the room nightly like they never considered going anywhere else.

  2. A dining room with a hand-shaped table at its center sets the tone for this Neapolitan Italian spot in South Miami. Antipasti and secondi arrive family-style for the table to share, while the menu leans into Neapolitan classics, slow-cooked ragù and pasta alla Genovese, reworked with a chef's eye for unexpected pairings. The cocktail list skews international, the service stays warm, and the whole thing landed on the 50 Top Italy world ranking.

  3. Rank 2. Walrus Rodeo

    Modern Italian

The team behind Boia De runs this wood-fired New American spot a few doors down, with no gas stove in sight. What's surprising is that vegetables do most of the heavy lifting: the lasagna sheets are made from mustard greens, and the menu treats produce with the same care you'd expect from a proper steakhouse. Pizza and some meat round things out, but the room is casual enough that kids and couples share tables without anyone feeling out of place.

  6. Giorgio Rapicavoli, the Chopped champion behind several Miami spots, set up this cozy osteria on Giralda Avenue's pedestrian strip in Coral Gables. The menu leans into Italian classics with playful detours: pasta al limone with pistachios, a tuna caprese built on local stracciatella, and a dish named after Stanley Tucci that the man himself would presumably approve of. The aperitifs get the same inventive treatment as the food.

  7. Rank 7. La Leggenda Pizzeria

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

The open oven anchors the room on Española Way, and the dough has been cold-fermenting long enough that the crust comes out airy and a little charred at the edges, the way Naples intended. This Neapolitan pizzeria keeps buffalo mozzarella and San Marzano tomatoes on the non-negotiable list, and the Italian wine list is short enough to actually read. It ranks eleventh on 50 Top Pizza USA, so the tourists and the locals both know to show up early.

  8. Rank 8. Francesco Martucci Miami

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

The wood-fired ovens at the back sit behind what regulars call "the cage," a signature touch from the Caserta-born pizzaiolo that followed him here to Wynwood. This is an upscale pizza restaurant with serious ambitions, dim lighting, designer furniture, and a wine cellar built vertically into the wall, scenic if a little unkind to whoever has to fetch the bottle. The menu runs from straightforward a la carte to a full tasting format. Ranked fifth in 50 Top Pizza USA.

  9. Rank 8. O Munaciello

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

Neapolitan bingo tablecloths, Napoli soccer jerseys on the walls, and an owner who never steps away from the oven: this is a Neapolitan pizza spot in Miami's MiMo District that takes its identity seriously without taking itself too seriously. The dough is well-leavened with a high, airy crust, and the cooking is precise. It ranked 11th on 50 Top Pizza USA. Note that an 18% gratuity is included by default on the bill.

  10. Massimo Bottura's modern Italian restaurant sits inside The Moore, a hotel and private club in the Design District, and the room earns its keep before the food arrives, all natural light and color. The kitchen leans into South Florida with a cacio e pepe finished with candied Florida citrus zest, and the famous lemon tart gets a Key lime rewrite. Playful without being casual, and priced accordingly.

  11. Rank 11. Il Pizzaiolo

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

The ceramic-topped tables inside this South Beach pizzeria signal that someone cares about the small touches. The Neapolitan pies come out with a high, airy crust built on a long-fermented dough, and the San Marzano tomatoes and fiordilatte are the real kind. Fresh pasta and homemade desserts round out the menu, and the Italian wine list does solid work during happy hour. A pleasant outdoor terrace handles the warm nights.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
