The best Turkish food in San Francisco, according to the experts: Michelin Guide, San Francisco Chronicle, and The Infatuation have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Kitchen Istanbul comes out on top.

More Less

Lokma and Healthyish Republic hold the next two places. The Infatuation shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with San Francisco Chronicle next.

  1. A wine bar on Clement Street doing Turkish food with a California edit, and the Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand to prove the combination works. The börek arrives golden and shatteringly flaky, the hummus floats in chili oil, and the künefe kadayif pulls cheese under a crunch of pistachio. The wine list runs deep and leans affordable, which explains why nobody at the small tables seems to be in any hurry to leave.

  3. A weekend Turkish breakfast served in a Mission lifestyle café is a good thing to keep quiet about. Healthyish Republic pitches itself at the keto-and-paleo crowd, but on Fridays through Sundays it sets out a spread of cheeses, vegetables, and dips across a dozen small dishes, portioned for two. The kaymak, clotted cream pooled in honey and dusted with pistachio, sits somewhere between yogurt and cream cheese and goes on warm pita.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
