  1. Courses arrive as emojis on the menu, and some of them you eat with your hands or lick off the plate directly. This is Gaggan Anand's progressive Indian fine dining restaurant in Bangkok, shaped by time at El Bulli and a musician's instinct for spectacle. The room splits between a 14-seat chef's table and an open-kitchen arena, all neon lights and concrete. It holds a Michelin star and sits at number six on the World's 50 Best list.

A tasting menu restaurant on Lang Suan where each of the ten or so courses arrives with a story attached, the dish standing in for a place: carabinero finished tableside for Goa, pickled vegetables conjuring a Himalayan winter. The chef's years in Japanese kitchens surface quietly, scallops from Hokkaido folded into traditional patra. It holds two Michelin stars, and the service team seems to have actually read the brief.

  5. Gaggan Anand's Indian-Mexican fusion restaurant is decorated in Jodhpur orange and Oaxaca blue, with neon signs and rattan furniture setting the stage for a menu that takes the mashup completely seriously. Butter chicken enchiladas, pork vindaloo tacos, keema quesadillas: the kitchen commits. It landed at number 27 on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants in 2026, which tracks for a place where the churros come dusted with cardamom and nobody at the table looks up from their plate.

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
