Cuisines

  1. Rank 601. Bistro Leoparden

    Modern Pizzeria

The airy, well-laced crust is the tell at this modern Stockholm pizza bistro, where the dough gets enough time and attention that it actually feels light rather than like a dare. The room is contemporary and comfortable, the kind of place where a relaxed evening doesn't require a dress code or a prior commitment to silence. Service is informal and switched-on, handled by a young staff that keeps the energy up without making it feel like a theme. Named among 50 Top Pizza Europe's Excellent Pizzerias.

  2. A spare, high-energy bistro in Stockholm where the menu quietly refuses to pick a lane. Chef Isak Oldenburg came up running restaurants in Nice, so quiche lorraine and bouillabaisse are at home here, but so are a Reuben sandwich and a solid dhal. The kitchen buys whole animals, which means offal shows up without apology. The mix sounds chaotic and somehow doesn't read that way on the plate.

  3. Rank 602. Bar Europa

    Pizzeria

The owners opened this bar and restaurant on Södermalm with the stated goal of making it the worst possible place to bring a date, which in practice means high tables, bench seating along the walls, and a room designed to pull strangers into conversation. The kitchen is barely big enough for two chefs and an electric pizza oven, but turbot and sweetbreads come out of it anyway. Desserts nod to Swedish café nostalgia from the '90s, which lands better than it sounds.

  4. A working bakery in an industrial pocket south of the city that mostly supplies bread to restaurants, with a small cafe attached where the public gets to benefit from that arrangement. Lunch runs to fresh-baked bread, cookies, smörgåstårta, and a short list of sandwiches that moves between Swedish tradition and a muffuletta or a cantal with gribiche. The kind of spot where the product is serious because it was never really meant for you.

  5. Rank 602. Mazra’a

    Middle Eastern Bistro

  6. A biodynamic urban farm on the edge of Djurgården where you can pick your own flowers, visit the stone-oven bakery, and end up lingering over lunch in a greenhouse cafe that somehow makes a Tuesday feel earned. In summer the outdoor Herbarium bar opens with a short menu built almost entirely from what's growing nearby. The 20-minute walk along the quay from central Stockholm is part of the point.

  7. Rank 608. Cadierbaren

    Cocktail Bar

  8. Rank 608. Le Hibou at Bank

    Cocktail Bar

Floor-to-ceiling windows open onto a rooftop terrace on both sides, which makes Le Hibou feel less like a hotel bar and more like a very well-appointed penthouse you've somehow talked your way into. White marble bar, low leather sofas, chrome ceiling, the whole aesthetic. It has its own street entrance, mercifully separate from the hotel below. Capacity is tight, so on weekends the early arrivals win.

  9. Mahogany panelling and wall-to-wall carpet nod to the bank director's office that once occupied this building, which tells you everything about the mood at this intimate cocktail bar tucked off the Bank Hotel lobby. The room is small enough that the bartenders clock your preferences after a round or two and start steering accordingly. The signature list leans classic, with Old Fashioned riffs doing the heavy lifting.

  10. Rank 608. Tweed

    Cocktail Bar

Tartan, not tweed, lines the walls and bar front here, a detail that sets the tone for the rest of the room. Tucked inside the Victory Hotel, this cocktail bar leans into a cosy, old-school gentlemen's club feel, with nautical odds and ends, model ships, and figureheads filling the cases and corners. The drinks follow the theme, folding in smoked sea salt and sea-foward flourishes. The kind of place where you settle in rather than pass through.

  11. Rank 612. Black Milk Gastro Bar

    Creative Cocktail Bar

Moody lighting and a pumping soundtrack set the tone at this intimate gastro bar on Engelbrektsgatan, where the cocktail bar gets as much attention as the kitchen. The creative menu skips around South America, Asia, and Europe without apology, leaning on modern technique and bold spicing, with Oscietra caviar and Périgord truffles appearing when the mood calls for a little drama. A fun night out that also happens to be serious cooking.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
